… read more also very capable. With Sterre's enthusiasm and help, we managed to get to the beach on Christmas Day and have a fabulously peaceful and delicious picnic in the evening. It was a very special Christmas which will be remembered with great affection.
My 10yo daughter thoroughly enjoyed playing imaginative games with Sterre, going on fun outings to cool Melbourne destinations together and just being in her company at home doing simple things like watching movies, making food to share and walking our dog. We were most grateful that we could go away for a few days away from Melbourne and leave our home and cherished pet in Sterre's care for this period. We knew all was in excellent hands and everything was A1 on our return. We will definately keep in touch and highly recommend Sterre to future hosts - please come and visit again soon Sterre! We had an amazing time staying there, the accommodation was very comfy and Clare gave us a lot of tips for us to settle as we just arrived in Australia ! The work was pleasant and the kids were amazing and very funny !

I am so grateful to Lauren and Favio - they came with enthusiasm, they worked hard, positively and courageously (!) and upon leaving, they provided a wonderful legacy of a sparkly renovated bathroom AND kitchen - all in the space of around 10-14 days! They put in an epic effort - removing the contents of the rooms, deep cleaning and painting
… read more (including a floor renovation) and helped put everything back together again. Time was short, however they dared to do the job and did it fabulously. They took the inconvenience of no real kitchen graciously and without any complaint and everything in their stride with smiles. My daughter loved spending time with Favio and Lauren and many other tasks (gardening, dog walking, general household jobs, decluttering, cooking) were achieved on top of the significant projects in a short space of time. Highly recommend - easy, happy guests who are a delight to have around! PS Lauren makes delicious meals too!

It was an absolute delight to host Ruth and Sandra! They came to us directly from Spain and stayed for 3 weeks. From the moment they arrived, they jumped into helping with vigour and enthusiasm despite coming off a long international flight. They were wonderful with the children who are at quite different developmental stages with different interests (teen and younger child) - both the kids loved the girls. Sandra and Ruth are intelligent, respectful, thoughtful, responsible, capable, healthy and also lots of fun! We had many laughs and great times along the way and were very grateful to have them as our guests. Highly recommend to future hosts - a very enjoyable and productive workaway experience. … read more ability, we felt assured they could help take the kids to and from school and look after many of their needs – which they did brilliantly. They were happy to do all manner of jobs – house painting, cleaning out and organising cupboards, food prep, gardening, general cleaning and daily tasks – with everything done very well, efficiently, with no fuss and with smiles in fact! Most importantly, Celie and Lisa were just absolutely delightful to have around and brought a wonderful sense of calm and quiet joy to our home. As Christmas was approaching, they kindly made gingerbread and decorated the tree as fun activities with our 9 year old daughter (who was thrilled) and played many other entertaining games with her also. We were all sad to see the girls go as it was a lovely, restorative and special stay. We can't thank Clare and her family enough for the wonderful time we had with them. Our previous host canceled a few days before we flew to Australia and they were kind enough to take us in at the last minute. They welcomed us with open arms and from the first minute we felt welcome and as part of the family.

… read more stayed was cozy and we felt very comfortable here. There was always delicious food in the kitchen and they were very responsive to our individual wishes. We are both vegetarians, which was no problem at all, and they bought us extra veggie things and cooked vegetarian meals.
The meals together were always very entertaining and we loved being part of the family. Definitely the perfect place to stay for anyone who misses family life.
We had more than enough time to explore Melbourne in addition to the chores, which were mainly helping around the house, and they gave us lots of great tips and took us somewhere as often as they could. Furtermore their house is only a few minute walk from the tram station from where it only tooks a few minutes to get to the centre of Melbourne.
We are so happy to have been here and to have met this great family. We had a wonderful time here and would highly recommend it to anyone.

When Johannes and Rosa came to stay with us this year, we hadn’t had many workaway guests post the covid-19 pandemic and much of the house and garden had been neglected for some time. They both were terrific in bowling over the day to day tasks (general housework and mountains of washing) with care and great energy, making it seem effortless -

Each day, they embarked on an additional larger task well – be it sanding and oiling timber windows, deep cleaning rooms, decluttering the most cluttered of spaces, gardening or just clearing junk, junk, junk! It wasn’t just the jobs they completed, it was the way they helped that made the difference. I will remember their patience, support, gentle insights and consideration in helping us through some difficult removal of personal items that needed to be moved on, and them quietly getting on with all tasks, with thoughtfulness, and intelligence, right down to fixing annoying things, like blocked vacuums and other fiddly household items - which made everything just work! Truly a dream come true! Rosa and Johannes helped us at the start of clearing out and cleaning up our property, which was the hardest part of what became the start of finally getting things back to “normal” after the exceptional time of the pandemic. We are so grateful for their caring contribution to our home and family. We will miss Johannes and Rosa being in Melbourne – not to mention their artisan culinary delights, which are first class! We have had some lovely times together. They come highly recommended by us to future hosts. Safe travels guys from all of us!

I had initially reached out to Clare for a longer stay in advance, but our dates didn't align. However, when I was looking to spend a few nights in the city before I left Australia for an early morning flight out of Melbourne, Clare was

I was so appreciative with her flexibility. I stayed with the family for two nights and shared Agnes' room. Though I was only with the family for a few days, I felt very welcomed and found my footing within all the personalities fairly quickly. I bonded with Agnes playing with a puzzle and was awed by Orlando with the piano. He is very talented at the keys. I enjoyed chatting about tiny homes with Clare and learning more about cricket and rugby with Dom and Orlando. During my short stay, I made a pasta dinner my first night, watered the plants in the backyard, and I helped tidy up the kitchen a bit. Wish I was able to stay longer as I felt we all would have gotten along well.
If I'm ever back in Melbourne, I hope to reconnect with this sweet family.

The children were not always that easy (!), but Sarah maintained calm and a level head and managed things well. In addition to this, Sarah helped with many tasks around the house - we always returned home to everything beautifully in order. Perhaps more importantly for us, Sarah was developing her music and confidence in performing publically in a new city far away from home. Seeing her practice, widen her horizons and experiences and show courage and commitment to her dreams was really inspiring. We felt privileged to share in this journey. The children loved their time with Sarah and especially when she was playing her guitar and singing. Sarah is kind and helpful, very relaxed and always willing to help. We felt very safe having her look after the children and she has gained a very special spot in their hearts - and ours too. He also managed to make a fabulously sturdy frame to secure our outdoor bath and help with digging and decision making for this job. This is something we have wanted for a long while and it was so great to have a very capable and kind person to do the job quickly and with precision! The kids are now splashing around out in the garden and we are all very happy. He also fixed a list of fiddly things that would drive us mad and that we simply would never get to! Laura was an exceptional help to me and was so dedicated in working with me to declutter. This is not something to be underestimated. Tasks like this may seem easy, but actually there can be more attachment than meets the eye! Laura has great presence, is kind, solid, skilled and thoroughly reliable. She launched me into new ways of thinking across many aspects of our life here, which I asked for, welcomed and was absolutely grateful for. She even made time to direct a meditation for me that has lasting effect. Both were fabulous with the kids too. I think the stay was only about 5-6 days, but we were very sad to see Bennie and Laura leave so soon. I am not joking when I say they have left a wonderful legacy here - both tangible and intangible. Their contribution was fabulous, but there presence also helped motivate me to achieve things I was struggling to do before! They just jumped into everything (irrespective of how interesting) and were thoroughly capable, willing, reliable, and did all things to a very high standard and with a happy approach. All of the guys were very talented in their own way and the children continue to mention them and things they realised were special about each.
Their commitment to health was inspiring and elevating and we were also very fortunate to have Flo perform some songs for us, even just before they were departing for their plane for home.
Over the stay, the boys just became part of our home and family and we missed them very much when they left. We do hope we see you all again and will definitely stay in touch. Unfortunately we were only able to stay for one week with this family because we left Melbourne to try and extend our oz visa but it was a great week. The
… read more apartment has a lovely location in the sweetest street close by to trendy brunswick and Fitzroy areas. Whilst there was no wifi at the apartment at the time, we're confident Clare and Dom are getting wifi over there soon! Otherwise the kitchen is well stocked - you provide food for yourself but Clare and Dom gave us a few basic bits and always offered us tea and lunch etc from their own fridge when we came over. We also used wifi at their home whenever we liked.
The work was very light - laundry, dishes, cleaning etc to make sure Dom and Clare have the time they need to spend time with their young children - both of whom are a delight by the way - especially Agnes, who is the funniest two year old! We would have loved the chance to spend more time with the kids too.
Clare and Dom were kind, generous hosts who genuinely wanted us to have a good experience in Melbourne and we are so grateful to them and sorry we had to leave so soon! We will definitely be angling for another stay next year but in the meantime recommend them to other workawayers!
