Hello I'm Jess!
I have a 25 acre property in Tropical North Qld, 15 minutes from Mission Beach. My place is a tropical wonderland bordered by the earth's oldest rainforest. There are stunning views of the surrounding mountain range, a beautiful creek to swim in and fresh organic produce to enjoy. It is a magical and peaceful place.
I live here with my dog Sunday and some chickens. We are totally off grid here and being mindful of this is essential. My house is separate from the workers accommodation so we will have privacy and opportunities to come together.
I love travelling and sharing stories, am passionate about Australian road tripping and sharing this very special place with visitors. I love music, art, dancing, yoga, farming and fun! It is a joy sharing this place with others and I look forward to meeting and working together with people from all walks of life. This is respectful, welcoming and safe place for all - bigotry has no place here and diversity is celebrated.
I have been an organic grower for nearly 20 years and I've been here for a year now. There are hundreds of wonderful tropical fruit trees with something fruiting all year round. Id love to share my knowledge with others enthusiastic about this way of life. The wet season has been challenging and the wild growth has gotten away from me - I'm in some real need of help to clear around the trees, prune and build up soil health. There are always other projects or tasks on the go - but getting the orchard healthy is a top priority.
Access to my place requires driving across a creek and is best suited to 4WD vehicles. There isn't much public transport in the area but I can help with lifts if you don't have your own car. Lets discuss!

My place borders incredible rainforest, the oldest in the world infact! There are cassowaries that visit the property and swimming holes and a lovely walk to a private waterfall.
I'm 15 minutes away from Mission Beach which is a gorgeous beach town with restaurants, bars, idyllic tropical beaches! Lots of travellers come through there. Some of the most beautiful places I've ever seen are in this part of the world and I would be so thrilled to share this with others.
I have a lot of knowledge and experience in organic farming, and can be a great resource for those interested in this.

The most important quality I am looking for is enthusiasm . I have been involved in permaculture / bio dynamics / holistic farm management etc for 20 years and love sharing my knowledge. I have an extensive library with many reference books too if that is of interest!
There is quite a variety of tasks and projects which can be tailored to suit your skills and interests. The focus at the moment is on the orchards and getting the trees healthier. Whipper snipping, hand clearing, adding organic fertilisers, pruning, mowing.
There are opportunities here to work together on bigger projects too. If you have a trade or experience in plumbing and off grid systems, building, fencing, solar power systems, earthworks or goats these are always extremely helpful! I also have a tiny house shell that I built many years ago that is is desperate need of some TLC to get it liveable again, so assistance there is always welcome. Let's discuss!

Full disclosure I don't really love cooking so help in the kitchen is always welcome too! I will provide you with food, sometimes we will eat together sometimes separately.
It can be quite hot during the day so work days will be split into a morning and afternoon session with a big break in the middle for lunch, swimming, siesta etc. Usually about 2 hours in the morning and then 2 hours in the late arvo.

I have a separate studio shed also off grid called Gecko House. It's a nice, big tiled open plan space with it's own kitchen and rustic outdoor bathroom. Gas hot water and stove / oven.
There is a chest freezer and washing machine down there that we will share use of. I don't have a fridge yet but I have some good eskys kept cool with frozen water bottles.
Gecko House has air conditioning too which can be used on sunny days in the heat of the day. It's simple, comfy and private.
There is plenty of space for camping too and I can provide everything needed for this if you want a truly unique kind of experience!
As we are totally off grid it is important you understand that resources here are limited and to please be mindful of your water and energy use. There is only 1 bar of reception outside Gecko House, so phone and internet use is not reliable. If you want to commit to a longer period of time and internet is essential for you, we can discuss this as I do have starlink internet, I just don't use it or have it connected.

There is limited transport and my property is basically 4WD only for most of the year.
There a daily Greyhound Bus which stops at Mission Beach or Tully and a train station in El Arish.
If you don't have your own car or 4WD I can pick you up and drop you off on your arrival and departure. If you stay for a week I'll take you out for a day of sightseeing / exploring.

If the creek is low, which is generally is in the dry season, vans can be driven across.

Sunday (2 anos)
Sunday is my best mate and a sweet angel once you get to know her.
She doesn't like going out much, she can be very reactive to others dogs and people she doesn't trust. She is quick to fall in love though and is mostly very gentle in spirit, she can just get nervous. I often have to leave her at home when I go out, so if you like dogs and want to hang out with her sometimes, that would be amazing!!
Her favourite things are cuddles, staring lovingly (creepily?) into your eyes , sleeping and going on walks.
