I would like to begin by stressing how kind and generous Basile and Lucy are. I was welcomed into their beautiful home with open arms, and I immediately felt comfortable and at home. I spent 10 wonderful days with them and their cat Tibu, who, by the way is a sweetheart, quite affectionate as well.
Friends and family asked me, “Why there and why
… read more Basile and Lucy?” One reason I choice Brittany was I had had a connection to the coast of Brittany (Le Croisic) thanks to my father-in-law having a summer residence there. However, I wanted a more rural experience, so I looked on Workaway for someplace like Basile and Lucy's home in Gahard, in the interior countryside of Brittany.
However, the first thing that really caught my attention was the smiling profile photo of Basile and Lucy. It made an impact on me. I wanted to meet them and add something positive to their lives. My intuition told me that spending 10 days doing physical labor in the middle of nowhere with kind and caring people would be a rewarding experience and a needed change from my urban existence in Madrid, Spain. My intuition was spot on. I thoroughly loved my time with them.
Besides doing tasks at their home, such as cutting the grass, digging up garlic, helping Basile plant vegetables, doing some basic carpentry, and making a wooden bench to be placed beside a neighbor's pond, Basile and Lucy included me in their social life.
I spent one morning working on a friend's small farm, where I learned about the pleasures and challenges of small farming in France. I went to a birthday party at a friend's home later that evening. They took me to a bar in a neighboring town to see a flamenco / Algerian folk music concert with their friends. I even went to a 40th birthday party of an old friend of Lucy.
I appreciate them so much for giving me ample opportunities to speak French at home with them and socially with their friends. I learned so much throughout my 10 day stay with them. I am truly grateful.
I look forward to going back sometime next year.

Amazing and lovely - if I had to describe my stay (12 days) with Basile and Lucie in two words those’d be it. Honestly, I don’t even know where to begin after having such a wonderful and enriching experience.
Well, starting from the beginning, I felt immediately most welcomed by both of them; they were absolutely understanding - I arrived the day
… read more after a concert… -, gave me all the space and time I needed and when we were together for the meals and beyond they were open, interested and included me everywhere so we had always a good chat.
Being at their wonderful place with the big garden, the sheep and chickens, all their plants they grow and the very nice neighbours and being able to help them with making progress in some of their numerous projects pleased me a lot. The tasks were varied and I could not only choose how to schedule my day but also sometimes what I’d rather like to do - be it pruning the raspberry bushes, planting a ton of seeds, loosening the soil of the beds with the « magical » device (no idea what it’s called ^^), baking bread with Basile and delivering it - it’s soo delicious! - or making doors and some kind of special shelf boards to store fruits, vegetables and herbs.
Working with Basile - Lucie had to work elsewhere most of the time - was just too great and enjoyable as he answered all my questions, explained everything very well and more, and expressed his satisfaction with what I did. But the best is you really see how excited, passionate and in love he is about/with his work in the bakery, in the garden or with wood and that’s absolutely contagious! :)
At the weekend I looked after the house (and cat, chickens, seeds) as the two were in Paris and I even got to borrow the car to go on a trip to Mont Saint Michel!
Basile and Lucie are warm-hearted, attentive and generous people and I’d recommend a stay with them to anyone.

My stay at Basile and Lucie was full of life from the beginning, it is amazing what kind of young people community they have around them, how they help each other, interact by making their own businesses and how it leads to a more simple and eco-friendly life. And in their own home, I felt really welcomed from the start as they not only took care
… read more of me and shared their life sincerely, but also showed such an interest in my country and culture. Working with Basile was always a pleasure as you can feel his happiness about the things he does, not to mention the amazing experience of participating in his bread-making process (the smell of freshly baked bread alone is worth millions!). Staying in their home also means great walks in nature with Lucie, delicious food with many local discoveries and most importantly fine talks around the fireplace with the sweetest cat on your lap...:) I highly recommend it!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

C'était un plaisir d'accueillir Clara et Pénélope chez nous. Toutes les 2 très volontaires et enthousiastes elles ont abattus un travail incroyable dans le jardin! Basile et Lucie sont vraiment adorables et attentionnés, ils ont pris soin qu'il ne nous manque de rien et que le travail nous plaise. Le rythme de vie est très agréable. On a pu rencontrer un chat à trois pattes (très affectueux), un bélier-jardin et beaucoup d'autres
… read more surprises. On vous conseille vivement d'aller faire un tour dans leur petit paradis !
C'était très agréable pour nous de les aider dans leur projet. Un lieu de vie respectueux de l'environnement avec une vrai recherche en faveur de la biodiversité. Le seul point négatif finalement, c'est de devoir partir !

Je peux seulement dire que il a été une très bonne expérience ! Les deux sont gentils et toujours prêts à expliquer calmement le travail à faire. Basile et Lucie ont été gentils et patients pour m'aider à améliorer mon niveau de français et me faire goûter des plats bretons. Ils sont Hosters qui valent la peine connaître
