It is a stone house with a meadow and fruit trees, located in the town of Robleda Cervantes, among a forest of oak and chestnut trees.
My parents live there all year round and I usually go on weekends and in holidays to help with homework and enjoy the surroundings.
We have between 5 and 10 sheep, 20 beehives, cherry, pear and apple trees with which we make cider. We have a small vegetable garden.
The tasks we carry out are:
- mowing and gathering hay, herding and feeding the sheep.
- manage the hives, carry out the ecological sanitary treatments, reproduce nucs, place the supers and collect the honey.
- prune and plant fruit trees, keep the soil in good condition, collect apples and make cider.
- keep the vegetable plot.
Actually, although there are a variety of tasks spread throughout the year, being a small family farm, the workload is low. My interest is to give support in these tasks to my parents who are already in their 70s.
Enjoying the environment is simple, my parents are very hospitable and cook very well. We try to keep an ecological sense with our environment and learning how to do it is always an improving task. We think food is in the center of our relationship with nature and we try to be as harmonious as we know for now and for our place.
The town has a rural bar where people meet, Puebla de Sanabria is 10 minutes by car, with a rich historical and cultural heritage and a greater leisure offer. The Tera River flows about 10 minutes away and the largest glacial lake in the peninsula 15 minutes away, where is possible to enjoy swimming. In the area there are mounts and mountains, where Peña Trevinca rises to 2,127 m.
I am a secondary school teacher and I usually live in León, an hour away. Sanabria is located in the Montes de León, which constitute the foothills of the Cantabrian Mountains just one hour from the sea.
Among my hobbies are enjoining nature, mountain hiking and folk music. Sometimes we do folk music parties in Sanabria. I was Wwoofer in Canada.
