Well, where do you start when you find such a likeable and capable couple?. Blake and Ellie stayed with us for the month of February and helped us with different tasks. They fitted in very well from the moment they arrived. They are courteous, intelligent, adaptable, hard working and great fun!
Blake did pruning of the Yucas and olives, they
… read more moved olive tree branches to the burning site. They did burning with Carl and later learnt to do it by themselves. They helped on the land. They learn quickly.
Ellie also did some painting, she is very creative and she will make something beautiful out of nothing. They are punctual and put 100% in what they do. Not lazy, happy to continue if something took a bit longer.
We had a nice time sharing some meals together and exchanging stories, We felt very comfortable with them at all times. In their spare time they were also learning Spanish by themselves, they progressed with this real quick.
They took lovely Tommy dog for long walks . We hope they will come back one day, Maria, Carl, Tommy, Mau Mau.

We had an amazing month living in the Andulucian country side with our hosts Carl and Maria. Every morning we would take their dog Tommy on a walk which gave a good layout of the land surrounding us. The views around the house are spectacular, and the ambiance is very peaceful. We came to the city yesterday and we miss it already! The studio we
… read more lived in was perfect and had everything we needed including a kitchen, a bathroom/shower, a TV, many books, and even a stereo.
Most of our tasks included pruning the trees around the property and burning the branches. Many of which were olive and almond trees which Carl has been taking care of for over 2 decades. There's a lot of history around the land and Carl is very knowledgeable about it as a fellow traveler himself.
If you don't have a vehicle be prepared to walk. The nearest town/bar is about 45 mins walking but we really enjoyed exploring the area on foot. Also, Carl and Maria will take you to the town of Comares each week to get food. There were special nights where Maria prepared vegetarian food just for us and those were always a treasured time. Maria is easy to talk to and always has the coolest jewelry that catch your eye. We are so thankful to have found this workaway and we will really miss it.

Its the best to come to the house if you need a little time out in the nature, because there are not many people living there and the next village is 4.5 km away. But for us, it were perfekt.

Work:
We started Monday to Friday around 9.30 am and finished around 14 pm! We helped with cleaning the property, the surroundings, taking Tommy for walks (sometimes MauMau just followed us :D), painting one
… read more holiday home and the rooftop terrace and wood furniture, etc. We enjoyed the work and Carl was there for us in person or via WhatsApp, if we had any questions. We worked freely without any pressure at any time. The communication was always friendly, thankful and respectful towards us! The instructions were clearly and we always knew what we're expected to do.
Accomondation:
It's the rented holiday studio and you're provided with everything you need! If we gone out of Oil or anything, we could always ask María and Carl. You have a lot of privacy there, we were allowed to walk freely on the property, chill at the poolside or in the pool, and enjoy the amazing view on the terrace. :) It's REALLY RURAL and CALM! A lot of stars in the nightsky, and really peaceful there. Comares is nearby and provides you with everything you need.

Also, very important to us, when we were on holiday, they looked after Tommy and MauMau cat very well.. They are both easy to look after but Eva and Timo gave them extra affection and really cared about their wellbeing.

We stayed here from the end of January until the beginning of March, in total 7 weeks. During our stay, 4 of these weeks, our hosts were on holidays.
ACCOMODATION: ¡Perfecto!
We stayed in the studio what is rented out in the summer. It is connected to the main house of the hosts, but it has a lot of privacy; own parking space, own terrace, own
… read more entrance. It is a little house with everything you need inside; bathroom, kitchen, bedroom... It's self catering, so you prepare your own meals. We were provided with a weekly budget, which we used to buy our food. Next to this, we were invited by the hosts to share some meals and spend the evening together.
WORK: Carl instructed us general maintenance jobs to do, in the garden, taking care of the swimming pool... While they were away, the most important one was taking care of the animals, Tommy dog and Maumau cat.
Next to this, we assisted with constructing a new terrace of concrete and stones.
We started around 9h30am and we finished around 2pm. So after the work, you have lots of free time to do your own thing.
AREA: The location of the house is somehow isolated. Thats why we advice you to have your own vehicle. From the house to the nearest asphalt road is 4 kms; the nearest restaurant/mini town is 5 kms and the nearest mini supermarket (in Comares) is 8 kms. Note that roads are winding and there is a lot of steepness.

Taking care of Tommy and Maumau was a very rewarding job, it was nice to spend time with them and to see how their affection for us was growing during our stay. Tommy is a very friendly, enthusiastic and nice dog, we never saw any sign of aggression. Maumau came always for a lot of cuddles. They both seemed to enjoy being around us, as well as we did with them.

We had a great time staying at Carl & Maria's finca in Andalucía. The studio accommodation is lovely; it is attached to the hosts house but has its own private entrance, there is a small kitchen, an ensuite bathroom, a dining table, and a nice outdoor terrace.
We stayed here for 3 weeks in March and helped them with lots of little jobs, dog

For the first week the weather was perfect so we were outside pruning olive trees, burning branches, organising firewood, and tidying the outside areas. In our second week the weather was not so good and one of us was inside doing computer work whilst the other did mostly painting work. In our final week we did not have as many structured tasks to complete but instead did lots of small jobs that they were pleased to have help with. Carl & Maria were always very appreciative of the help we were able to provide for them!
One thing worth noting is that the location is very isolated. We quite liked this aspect of it; however, if you want to frequently access the shops and restaurants in the local town then it may be beneficial to have a car. That said, the hosts often took us to Comares (the local town) and then we would walk back home - this takes about 1.5h. They would always make sure we had enough food and took us for a big shop near the coast once a week!
Overall we had a great time, Carl & Maria (& Tommy the dog) were both very friendly and welcoming... this made our first workaway experience incredibly worthwhile so thanks to them for that!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

During their three weeks with us as Workawayers Teresa and Craig did various jobs and helped us complete some unfinished projects. They did some painting, pruning Olive trees and garden shrubs, repaired things and helped create some shade made of cane for our new glampsite at the finca. Carl and Maria are amazing hosts who are so friendly and helpful, they couldn't have been nicer and we enjoyed dinner with them a couple of times and loved to hear stories of their travels. And then the whole day free to explore the mountains, enjoy the pool and the company of the pets, her dog Tom so good and beautiful, and the cat "maumau" that always walked around the house as if it were family. Pamela is a very clean organised and responsible girl. We enjoyed having her helping us in the house and land, her contribution was positive, she does different tasks willingly and if she doesn t know something, she will soon learn. She has artistic talent and pays attention to detail. We had some dinners together and she showed us some new dishes. … read more discussed the jobs and Carl made a list (mainly plumbing, gardening, decorating and painting outside). Some days Carl would come over and work with us. For part of this time there were strict, municipal Covid restrictions, so we could only drive to Comares for food shopping.
Once these were lifted, we enjoyed trips out to the lake at Vinuela and Torre del Mar on the coast as we had our own transport.

On our day of arrival, we were overwhelmed by the sense of peace and the beautiful views on the mountains from the premises. We were invited to a warm welcome gathering by Carl and Maria, after which we were told all the ins and outs about Tommy, a small to-do list for maintenance tasks and how to get around in the neighbourhood.
During Carl and Maria's absence, we fully enjoyed our stay and taking care of Tommy was no bother at all. Tommy is a loving, playful and kind dog that loves to be with humans. Furthermore, we took care of small arrangements such as moving gravel from one place to another (this required some physical strength), weeding, cleaning the pool, watering the trees and plants and a bit of painting. No long hours of work during off-season, but definitely insightful. Moreover, for any doubts or questions, Carl and Maria were always fast to respond. We often exchanged information about our experiences in general. They were also very open to introducing us to their network within the village, which was very helpful and a welcome social exchange.
The weeks went by very fast, but we felt completely recharged after a month in Comares. We were lucky to see Carl and Maria before we left, and they both gave us a fantastic goodbye dinner on our final evening. Carl and Maria really both warmed our hearts and we are very greatful that they entrusted us with the responsibility to take care of the house and of Tommy. We carry them and Comares in our hearts and will most definitely return to this special place!

… read more meet the 3 of you - Maria always smiling, being helpful and enthusiastic; Carl - being kind and positive, precise and optimistic; and of course Tommy - little heart of this place, adorable, the kindest and sweetest creature :)
Our time was respected and the work was always fair. It was a pleasure to be able to spend some time outside and help these people organize their place of living. This included weeding, painting, cleaning, sorting, sweeping etc. Sometimes we had to walk Tommy, but most of the times it was our pure initiative.
We worked 4-4,5 hours a day and were supplied with some food once a week. Despite the fact that one needs to travel 7 km one way in the mountainous area to get to the store, we always were able to find a way to be fed :) We stayed in the studio that is usually rented to guests of Maria and Carl.
There is a beatiful place to be, very peaceful and quiet. It is a perfect opportunity to relax, calm down and learn to enjoy every moment. We truly recommend this family and this place to stay!

We spent 2 months with Carl and Maria in this small peaceful paradise in the mountains. The first month, both were still there and Carl gave us the tasks in morning for the day. There are almost no neighbors and you really spend your time in a beautiful location in the mountains.
In December, the two were away for a month and we took care of the wonderful dog Tommy.
He is a very cuddly dear dog with a fun hobby, cracking almonds and eating :-)
It was a lot of fun to spend our time with him and we already miss him very much.
While there were away they gave us a list with some things to do in this time.
The work was mostly done in the garden. For example, cutting trees, painting pool railings and keeping the pool clean or plucking weeds.....
There is a lot to do and can be exhausting but working outside in the sun, turning off the head is a nice change and got us good.
Carl and Maria are two great and lovley people who have created a little paradise in nature and it was a great pleasure for us to meet them and spend our time there.

We have been at Carl and Maria' s place 4 weeks in February to watch for their house and dog Tommy while they have been on vacation.
We had a pleasant stay in their studio which has everything you need. Tommy the pitpul is a super sweet cuddle dog and we trained him a bit during our walks through the area which is amazing. The near by village has
… read more bars with open mic and Martin played with the locals every Tuesday. The community is very friendly and open to new people so we made some friends as well. A lot of english speaking people there that made it much easier to communicate.
Carl and Maria are very welcoming and it's sad that we couldn't spend more time with them but the few days we had were fun.
We had a list of jobs to to during their travels which were easy and gave us enough time to explore the area.
Definitely worth staying and we would always go back there.

Staying with Carl and Maria was a wonderful experience! They live in a beautiful place in the middle of nowhere with practically no neighbors. It is very peaceful. … read more times hard and a bit tedious, however the working hours were always respected and well distributed. The only downside of our experience was that due to the very long walking distance to the closest village and our lack of transport, we had to fully depend on the hosts to drive us to get food and they were not always available to do so.
