… read more shared the apartment with Anneliese and I really enjoyed it, because she is so kind, relaxed, and does everything to make you feel comfortable. We also shared our passion for food, so eating lots of chocolate croissants became a ritual almost every day. The work is simple and not too hard . Mostly it was feeding the horses in the morning and mocking out the paddock. You don't need a lot of horse experience for that, but for me as a big horse-lover it was the perfect place because in my free time I could spend as much time with the horses and ponies as I wanted, whether it was riding, going for a walk with the ponies or just cuddling them. All of them are so sweet, well behaved and well cared of! I miss all of them, but especially Inuk. The farm itself and the surrounding area is stunning and so peaceful - the perfect place to calm down and relax. Thank you so much for the amazing experience!

… read more a totally sensitive, nice, funny and organized person who you simply have to love! She was always making sure that you have everything you need. Pepa is also a fantastically special person who gives you so much warmth and openness. Plus, her laugh brightens up the whole room and her energy is infectious. All in all, everyone is just great, including Pepas Family and Friends.
I study remotely, so I was allowed to set up my workstation in the living room, where there is also internet. I will miss the workspace with a view of the riding arena! The internet worked well, but unfortunately not perfectly. But I could rely on fast internet around 70-80% of the time, so I was able to do my work with a bit of flexibility!
I was also allowed to move and entertain the horses in my free time, which for me as a big horse lover was of course a highlight. I was able to go on great rides with the kind riding instructor Paula, savor Chiwako's joy in the dressage arena and become friends with little Flamenca, who simply has the sweetest neigh ever. Oh and of course getting to know Anneliese's little ones!

I loved the evenings with Pepas family and friends, eating together and talking with eachother about everything. As a person that doesn't has that family time at home it was really beautiful to me. I loved to play with Martin, he is always up to something fun. I wished I had stayed longer.
The work was perfect for me. Feeding and looking after the horses was never work it was something I really enjoyed. The horses are all so well behaved and riding them was incredible. I enjoyed my freetime with reading or going on walks or visiting other cities. It was just the perfect radiation.
Coming from someone that has struggled with depression and anxiety this was the place were I finally could be truly happy and enjoying every second.
I recommend it to everyone to go there and if not you are missing out on something.
I will definitely come back because it is still in my head everyday :).

… read more decent drive of Tarragona and the sea, it provided the perfect backdrop for both work and relaxation. The accommodation was comfortable, clean, and offered everything I needed for a pleasant stay.
Pepa is an exceptional person. Her warmth, kindness, and generosity are truly unmatched. She went above and beyond to ensure I felt at home, offering not only guidance and support with my tasks but also sharing culture, stories, and insights about the local area, and giving me space at the same time. It was clear that she genuinely cared about creating a meaningful and enriching experience for her Workawayers. I was also able to try out a few things that matched my skill set.
By the way, this is the perfect sanctuary for burnt out teachers, or people with chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety etc, like myself. The work is just perfect to stop that mind from racing but not physically too demanding. The location is so peaceful, it feels like a retreat. I could really switch off and recover here, both physically and mentally, it was priceless.

Last summer my daughter (12) and I spent a wonderful couple of weeks at the Athipika with Pepa, her sweet son Martin and 2 other workawayers. Pepa is a wonderful host who will always do anything in her power so everyone feels welcome and has a great experience while staying with her.

On some evenings we got to go on trailrides through the beautiful wineyards, on our free days we went to Barcelona for sightseeing and to the nearby beaches.
I hope we will come back to Athipika next year! Pepa, we still have to find a timeslot to have that quiet coffee and some good conversations 😉. Where should I start? From the day i arrived at the Athípika i felt very welcome and it soon felt like home. Pepa is an amazing Person who always made sure that her workaways are doing fine. … read more to look back. My work mainly consisted of cleaning the paddocks, carrying for the horses and working on some flyers and a logo. Some days were more stressful, some were more relaxed. The horses are well cared for and all of them have their unique personality.
In my free time I got to ride and work with the horses. The trail rides were stunning and everyday was unlike the privies one. I got to learn a lot, gain some unforgettable memories, improve my language skills and meet many different people. It's hard to describe but in in German we have a saying called das Leben ist kein Ponyhof/ Life is not a pony farm (live isn't always fun) but live at the Athípika, kind of was like pony farm.
So, thank you Pepa, for giving me the unique opportunity to be a part of your horse farm and trusting me with your animals and thank you for welcoming me into your home. It was a pleasure meeting you and you animals.

I visited Pepa for more than a month in summer 2022. It has been my first workaway experience and it was truly wonderful!
Pepa was a great host, often making sure that me and other volunteers feel good and comfortable and despite being quite busy she has managed to take me to different places and interesting events.

… read more around horses, spending time with Martin and there's also some computer stuff around social media and some creative work to do. There are no fixed hours, the volunteers rather make their own shedule so being independent and having initiative is very important.
In my free time I was able to ride horses a lot both on the arena and on the rutas as well as do some groundwork with them. All of the horses are lovely and they have very different characters which makes it even more interesting to work with them. The amazing views and sunsets that we got to admire during the rutas will be my best memories<3
During my time there I had a lot of occasions to speak Spanish: with kids from the summer camp, people coming to the stable, Papa's friends and the staff. I am happy that I have managed to improve my Spanish, especially conversational skills, as it was one of my goals for this trip.
There's a lot more I could say but all in all: it was an incredible experience during which I have learned a lot, met amazing people and got to spend a lot of time with horses. The horses get 24/7 hay, live in a paddock paradise and in the warmer days spend their days in green tall grass.

Peppa y James eran muy agradable y de vez en cuando hacíamos barbacoas juntos. Estamos muy contentos de haber podido conocerte y visitarte.
Pasamos dos semanas muy buenas allí, con muchas experiencias, muchos animales, contactos sociales interesantes y un buen trabajo.

Our Workaway experience was really perfect in the Hipicia/Athipika in Renau with Peppa, James and Martí.
We are a family of 4 and slept in our caravan close to the horses. We loved it!
Our two daughters were able to participate in the summer course with other children and also take riding lessons with the lovely Frieda or the funny Eric. And Nadine was also allowed to join the moonlight ride.
We had a bit to do, Rico helped to build the fences and also a small wooden house. Nadine helped with the graphics and photography.
Peppa and James were very nice and from time to time we had barbecues together. We are very happy that we were allowed to get to know you and visit you.
We had great two weeks there, with lots of experiences, lots of animals, interesting social contacts and a good job.

The best place I could choose in this "corona time". Farm is on country side, so I could be in a quiet place, surrounded by nature. There is many tourist trails around, even a small forrest. However you wont feel alone there, because there is still somebody around - workers on the farm, ppl who have classes there or ppl who came to take care of

My tasks was mainly to take care of Martí, smart little child, who understand english very well, he speaks english just a little, but I was surprised he understood all I told him. He is very well behaved, really. He likes to play tennis, football. We also played a lot with children's kit. Another task was to design a property, so I made a garden plan for a family.
From the first moment I felt very good in Pepa´s place. I felt good energy there. I really miss that place. I hope once I ll live in simmilar place surrounding by good ppl.
Pepa is hardworking mom, she is easy-going and she loves her home and her family. Oh, and horses. :)

… read more be surrounded by different lovely people at all times and communicating on three languages at once. What you do is amazing! While the equiclub develops more and more into what you want it to be one day, so much stuff is going on at the same time, and still, everybody can find his or her own place and role in this whole process. As every volunteer is allowed to choose some own projects, additionally to the usual daily chores that come along with keeping horses and living with your little family, there is also space for some personal development and growth by trying and doing new things. I only left two days ago, but I am already starting to miss Spanish winter with so much sun that I have freckles all over my face now and nights, with a Skye full of stars, because there are no city lights around that could blur the view. The surroundings of the hipica are just as beautiful as the hipica itself and all the people living and working there. This place will definitely stay in my heart forever and I could not be more thankful for a first workaway experience like that.

If you love it, you will understand it from the first days. So it was with me. I didn't even have time to blink an eye, as it was already impossible to stop me in caring for horses, which was quite a new thing for me and of course sometimes in
… read more the heat it was quite difficult. But there are miracles in this, when you do everything sincerely and want to surround with care such cool open-minded people and cute animals. The atmosphere of our big family has always inspired us to make decisions on landscaping of farm and home organization! For a couple of weeks, issues with filling each stable and many other moments were resolved, what's why I wanted to stay as long as possible to participate in the implementation of Pepa and James's plans. And keep cooking with love for all of us, marveling at my extra energy.)
And of course, in addition to well-coordinated work (in relaxed and positive mood, here you are your own coordinator), we also friendly and fun spent free time together. All these barbecues, horse rides, planting new plants, trips to the sea, birthdays, meeting many friends and relatives with traditions of Catalonia, - will stay forever in my mind and heart! Therefore, I already count the days before our new meeting, my dear Pepa, James and Martin. Thank you for giving me such an unforgettable warm welcome to your family and making me part of it, I needed this experience more than I could imagine! My daughter and I stayed at the Ranch for almost a month in July-August this year.
I experienced Peppa as a very welcoming, respectful and friendly host who took care of each workawayer‘s individual needs. Peppa‘s boy was also very welcoming and a fun playmate.

I recommend anyone interested in horses (riding, training, natural horsemanship, horse therapy...), anyone who is interested in agroforestry or gardening, anyone who can work with wood and clay, anyone who is interested in Marketing... to go and share knowledge and experience Ranch life and Catalan lifestyle.
There is a bus in Renau if you want to go to Tarragona or you can also use the bikes to check the surroundings.

We've stayed for two weeks at Equiclub Renau with Peppa, James and Martin. They have enough dreams and ideas for the future, so we didn't have to feel bored. We helped organizing en re-inventing a part of their home, the soulhouse (play-room) and the stables. We also helped realizing an eco-friendly watersupply for the horses, made their place
… read more more child-friendly by e.g. making a lid for the waterwell and fixing broken windows. Inbetween work we had lovely dinners, drinking and enjoyed James his BBQ-specialties. We've had a lot of fun, together with Irina from Russia. Our son Mats had a blast with Martin, they acted together like brothers. We've met a lot of friends and family of Peppa and enjoyed the trips to the beach and the lovely Catalan village El Catllar. The horseriding under the stars accompanied by Zoe was the summum!
