-------------- LAST NEWS --------------
After a very intense summer, a lot of volunteers and friends helping our dream come true, the insulation of the walls is done and we'll be able to spend winter in the valley! Still a loooooot to do (floors, ceiling, inside walls, a proper bathroom...), but slowly it's becoming a house!
---------- END OF LAST NEWS -----------
WARMEST GREETINGS TO ALL WORKAWAYERS!
We are family of five: Marta (38, Italian), Michal (43, Czech) + Mia (8), Elio (5,5) and little girl Saša (2).
We just started to live our dream here - in the adventurous and wild greek mountains, 40 min from the seaside, completely offgrid, homeschooling, with good people around.
ARE YOU.......
- a couple or a solo traveller?
- a family searching for a place to settle down… isn´t that place here? :-)
- a person who can enjoy time spent with kids, willing to offer them activities, games, arts and craft session or whatever you might be able to share with them to enrich their daily routine?
- someone with carpentry skills, or other practical in general?
- a nature lover who doesn´t mind outdoor life, dirty hands, insects and not having the comfort of a city or even a village?
- someone who enjoys cooking (healthy food possibly)?
.......then this might be the place for you! :-)
WHAT WE HAVE HERE TO SHARE
- One hectar land with a small house (only one big room, now in renovation). On the land there is a beautiful stream, a lot of big walnut trees, an apple/plum orchard and other trees, a little pond that is also a live source of water from the bottom. Magic! Compost toilet, outdoor shower (cold water only – but with sun the water goes wonderfully warm). It is a wild paradise for children, and adults, surrounded by mountains and a lot of green and water, streams and waterfalls.
- Best neigbours! :-) A Belgian/Dutch couple (Steven&Chenny) who started their permaculture/community project Liveloula already 12 years ago. Fantastic place. You can check them on Workaway, too, we are 1min walk from each other.
- We have a quite lively neighbourhood of friends here around: people from all over the world, about 20-30 living permanently here around, many more coming and going, especially in the warm season. Meeting, sharing, helping each other, doing music, playing board games, partying…
- In the closest village Seliana there is the ecoculture-center Re-Green.
The only element missing here are --- families with kids! That´s why we want to attract parents with children in many ways, and Workaway families with kids are also very welcome. We will be also happy to share our land with a family one day if it clicks!
SOMETHING ABOUT US
Marta: I am a full time mom, love nature, foraging, preserving, gardening, cooking good food, arts&crafts, sewing, making barefoot shoes, yoga, singing, dancing, adventure. However, our family life and schedule being very busy, I have no time for this all except for the food-related stuff, and gardening.
Michal: I am musician - piano teacher and choir director. I love outdoor work, biking, hiking, playing music together and green jasmine tea.
The kids: very lovely, very loud, very wild, often challenging, a bit dirty. They are homeschooled, so they are all the time around except for when we go down for some afternoon activities and sports for them.
We have moved here just very recently (February 2025). We are now at the beginning of our adventure, but also a lot has been last summer done with the help of many hands! It is very intense, challenging, fermenting. About finding new rhytms. We are growing through many fall downs and stand ups again. Best self-development course ever! :-)
We feel that this place and its surroundings (people included) has a lot of potential for future projects, summer camps and a lot more.
We will be very grateful for an additional pair of helping hands, either in devoting to kids or helping around the house, with cooking, gardening or in building projects. Tasks will be very various.
HOW YOU CAN HELP US
Any specific skill (like carpentry, permaculture gardening...) or experience with kids is very welcome but is not a must. What is the most important for us is that you really come with the will to contribute to the place and to share a piece of life with our family as a member of it - including also the responsabilities that come along.
If you feel creative in any way, or have any special skills you might contribute with, please mention it, your fresh ideas will be very welcome.
Main projects for the upcoming days, weeks and months:
- garden joys (making new beds, planting, weeding, watering, pruning...)
- kitchen joys (taking care of our fermented stuff, cooking, making miso, homemade pasta, gomasio, preserves, wild salads...)
- smaller building joys: wooden platform around the toilet, rope playground, welding iron doors, making simple wooden shelves for preserves, paint our compost toilet, making a sieve for soil, restore an old table, making a box for sawdust, a sandbox for the kids… or whatever else what you would like to make.
- preparing firewood
- teach something to our kids :-) for example, a playful daily practice of English with a mother tongue will be very welcome!
TECHNICAL THINGS
Accomodation is in a tent. If you don't have your own, we can provide, as well as mats/matraces/blankets/pillows, linen etc.
Cars, campervans, caravans and similar are also welcome, we have nice spots for them.
Our altitude is 750m above sea level. The nearest village is Seliana, 1 km from us. The nearest city is down at the coast – Akrata, cca 40 minutes by car from us. There are supermarkets gas stations and all the shops.
In Seliana there is a cafe selling also some basic grocery goods, you can buy eggs from happy chickens from our neighbours and sometimes veggies, too.
If you are without a car, come by bus or train from Athens (very good connection, it takes about 3 hours). Go to Akrata, there we can pick you up.
There goes no bus to us here to the mountains. We usually go to the seaside once or twice a week, we can offer two or three free spots in our car. However, if your main passion is the seaside and you would feel sad without having it more often, this is probably not the place for you!
Newly we have wi-fi here (in the house and around), just not too fast but good enough to stream videos etc. Data reception can be poor in the surroundings, but there are spots which are good, even for videocalls.
You can use all our spaces like the member of our family :-)
Note: if you contact us, please start your writing with „HOWGH!“ So we know that you have read our profile till the end.
Aaaaaand – please contact us only if you would like to stay at least about one month, or if you are very determined to convince to have you for less ;) Long stays are for sure a plus.
Have nice days (and nights!).
See you here!
