We spent two weeks on Gry's farm in July and we enjoyed it very much. The work wasn't hard. We did various tasks, so it wasn't boring and we learned a lot about organic gardening and living on a farm. We mainly weeded and protected plants against birds and water loss, but there were also other interesting tasks, such as sheep shearing.
The farm is

Gry is a very nice and helpful person. She has two cute cats and a lovely dog who loves going for walks. We had a separate room in the house, which was a bit dark, but we could also sit in the living room with a beautiful view of the mountains.
We highly recommend this place, you can take a break from the city noise and experience a peaceful life in the Norwegian countryside.Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

We stayed with Gry for about 5 weeks in March/April. Whilst there we helped with the sheep and chickens (feeding twice a day) and did some DIY on the house; the main project being to rebuild a sun room/ conservatory. Gry is a welcoming host and was very easy to live with. We really felt at home and she cooked some very tasty meals during our stay.

We arrived end of March and the snow was about 4 ft deep. This was spectacular but a bit limiting. Avalanche risk meant that we couldn't do nearly as much snow shoeing/ skiing as we had hoped. Tromso is 1 hour a way by bus and definitely worth a visit, but there is pretty much no other useable transport links (you can get a bus to a nearby supermarket but will have to wait hours before you can catch one back) and nothing within walking distance. It's worth considering this because, while Gry is a great host and the work is interesting and varied, we were a bit disappointed with our stay as we had almost nothing to do with our time off and were somewhat housebound due to the weather. This would be a very different story if we had a car so we would highly advise people coming to come with transport!
Overall, we had a good experience. Gry was a lovely host, we were working with 3 other volunteers which was a lot of fun, we did manage to catch the northern lights and it was amazing being somewhere so beautiful. It would be nice to come back in summer and see how different life is without all the snow!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

We stayed at Gry´s farm for two weeks in June 2022.
Already from the start communication with Gry was smooth and fast.
When we came Gry picked us up at a bus stop and welcomed us at her farm which was very nice. Bytheway the farm really has the most beautiful location!
Gry made us feel at home - we had a pretty room for us, Gry cooked even (with
… read more her busy schedule!) traditional Norwegian meals which were very tasty, we enjoyed some nice and interesting conversation with Gry and we also loved the fact that we could cook dinners (and Gry always bought everything that we needed for their preparation). Moreover, we could cuddle Gry´s absolutely adorable dog Mira!!
The first-week work was mainly planting and weeding which we coped with easily. Nevertheless, the second week was very hard for us. We were digging holes for planting berry bushes in soil full of stone every day and also weather conditions made the work very challenging (full sun and insects). We knew that work needed to be done, which also made it more difficult as we had a certain number of holes to finish every day to make it on time.
Although Gry does write in her profile that you need to be fit for a workaway at her farm we did not get a precise idea of what that means in reality. We realized through the stay at Gry´s farm that the North is really tough and that was an enriching experience that expanded our horizons. (!We would like to encourage you to carefully consider this - whether you are prepared to do some demanding physical work for a longer time!).
Thank you Gry for everything and please give a hug to Mira from us!
All the best to you

Really nice, hardworking boy. During the stay here, he painted the barn, did some weeding in the garden and prepared for planting berry bushes. It is hard work, but he never complained and was always friendly. Always doing his best and a really good cook as well! One of the best Work Awayers I have been hosted. He is welcome back here whenever he

I spent the last three weeks at Gry's wonderful place and can say that it was absolutely worth it!
It was a busy time at the farm and I was impressed how much effort Gry puts into growing vegetables in the north. The work I did was mostly connected to the garden: planting, weeding, watering and a lot of digging. Together with two nice Czech
… read more workawayers I dug 300 holes for berry bushes, which was really hard work, especially in those strange high temperatures and surrounded by myriads of flies.
When you consider working at the farm, you should be able to deal with five hours (not more) of often exhausting physical work that has to be done for the plants. And with exhausting I really mean exhausting! :)
As a reward you learn a lot about regenerative agriculture in north norway, are able to taste some of Gry's homemade products and can enjoy the outstanding, incomparable nature with its rugged mountains and blue fjords. There are some beautiful hiking trails in the area, at low tide you can follow the shore and Tromsø can be reached by bus.
Gry herself works a lot, she has a job at the kindergarden in Laksvatn and cares about her plants the rest of the day, so we workawayers prepared most of the dishes, which I liked. Apart from that Gry makes you feel like at home and is a wonderful conversationalist in the evening, when she has time.
I really enjoyed my time and experiences at her place, the cuddlings with the adorable dog and the chance to dive into vegetable farming in Troms, at least a little bit.
Hopefully I come back soon!

Gry, was a great host and the farm is in such beautiful nature adjacent to mountains and the fjord.
I really enjoyed my time here especially learning about growing in the Northern Norway climate and feeding the lambs.
It was inspiring and I am grateful for this stay.

I worked at Gry's lovely farm for 3.5 weeks, which felt like 3.5 months due to the intensity of the work and all the impressions I got. First of all, I'd like to express my sympathy, respect and admiration for Gry, for her personality (e.g. positive, helpful, interested in others) and te way she manages this farm on her own in combination with two

I found the given tasks, such as clearing out the stable, putting up a fence, painting, picking berries etc. physically demanding sometimes (as one can expect), but also very satisfying and joyful, especially in cooperation with the other Workawayers. Gry told us a lot about life on a farm, in a small community and in Norway as a whole. She also shared some personal information with us, when appropriate, and I felt comfortable to do the same, which resulted in some interesting conversations in the evenings. I'm really grateful to Gry for giving me the opportunity to get this marvellous experience despite my age, and I would love to come back to her farm one day, as a Workawayer or just a passer-by.

Marti stayed a couple of weeks at my farm. He was such a nice person to host. He was responsible and polite. I had to leave the farm for a few days and he took care of everything while I was away. I can highly recommend him and he is welcome back to my farm as well

I am still amazed of all the opportunities Workaway has brought to me. Complete strangers opening their doors to me, to show me their world and their lifestyles.
Gry wasn't an exception. She introduced me to the farmlife in northern Norway, explaining and showing me in detail daily animal care and growing plants. She is organized and communicative

We stayed at Gry’s farm for three weeks during the lambing season and our stay was definitely beyond our expectations in many ways. It was quite exhausting but we absolutely loved it and learned a lot about hard farm life. We were mainly taking care of the animals(sheep, horses, chicken), feeding them and checking on the sheep day and night if they
… read more deliver their babies safely. We also got to bottle feed some of the lambs which was the cuttiest job :). Every day was completely different as you can never know when exactly will the sheep give birth and if everything will go smoothly. Since we wanted to help as much as possible we found a lot of other tasks that we could do, like fixing the greenhouse, sowing some plants or repairing horse fence or chicken house. Since Gry only moved to this farm couple years ago it is a work in progress so you will always find things that need to be done and it is good to be flexible. We liked the freedom of choosing which tasks we would feel like doing. We felt very welcome in Gry’s home and enjoyed our dinners together. Also Gry told us a lot about organic farming, problems that she needs to deal with and overall gave us a great insight on farm life. It was a lot of learning by doing for us and we think it is the best way. We still don’t understand how can she manage the whole farm on her own and we admire her for that. Even in this hectic period Karolina got to go horse riding and enjoy the beautiful surroundings as the farm is located in between the lake and the fjord with a great view of the Lyngen alps. Gry is a great host and a lovely person and we hope that one day we will come back.Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

Jakob and Karolina stayed here for 20 days. It´s been really nice getting to know them, both because they are social, friendly and polite, and because they have a work ethics higher than most people I have met. They are flexible and easygoing, helping out whenever I needed a hand. From day one they did all the feeding of my animals- the sheep, the

They were helping out when the sheep gave birth, helping both the sheep and the lambs to get a good start. They helped me with fixing the greenhouse, the chickens house, building rooms for the newborn lambs and cleaning the stables. They helped with sewing vegetables and potting the vegetables. And everything they did, they did with such care and accuracy. They did never rush, giving time and patience. And they cooked nice and healthy meals.
Last but not least, they are reliable and responsible. They always did what we agreed.
I can highly recommend them, and they will always be welcome in my home.Stay with our family in rural west-coast in Hyllestad, Norway
