Descrição
Urgent help - chef needed- for the season in 2025!
We love hosting our workawayers and getting to know you all and in turn helping you get to know our lovely wild & rustic County of Cornwall here in the extreme South West of the UK.
We run an alternative & unusual campsite (it started just with tipis, then with tents & now campervans are welcome too!), plus a funky onsite cafe and outdoor festival-style wedding venue in our 20 acres of woodland just 10 minutes inland from the picturesque fishing village of Port Isaac.
We're an ideal place for people that love to be outdoors and part of a close team for the working season! Whether you're a surfer looking for a job and base-camp while in North Cornwall for the summer or you want to walk the South West Coast Path or continue your life as a digital nomad in your van while earning some cash at the same time, or perhaps someone who just wants to save up while living in this beautiful and special part of the UK then we could be a great fit for you.
We've got a lovely lake you can swim in or practice your rowing skills in the boats - maybe even catch the odd fish for your supper!
We usually have workawayers staying with us for several months at a time but occasionally need people for less when things pan out that way.
We really welcome people travelling from abroad who want to expand their horizons, improve their language or other skills or learn new ones here with us - and there's definitely a big range of things to get involved in here :)
We currently urgently need an experienced chef/cook to start in time for the Easter weekend (ie 18 April ) plus another person to work with them and the rest of the team in the cafe - the Tipi Kitchen. This isn't fine dining but we do everything as well as we can with local seasonal ingredients and have a wood fired pizza oven, offer world food specials, breakfast & brunches etc.
If you have an interest in some basic gardening as well that would be an advantage as there is a little garden at the back of the cafe with herbs etc. There's other work on the campsite too with the tipis and housekeeping but it's cooking experience we need right now as we've been let down very last minute!
This could be ideal if you are a couple. You'll need your own car to live & work here or of course your own campervan to live in or there's the choice of our workaway accommodation for the season if you prefer.
Due to Cornwall's tourist season we open at the end of March and close in September or early October every year and would love to have the right people with us from April-end of September-ish.
We always pay workawayers at least minimum wage and, depending on their skill set, sometimes more. Please note, due to the horrors of Brexit, we are unable to host you if you do not have permission/visas etc to work in the UK. This is a sad situation, but not one we can do anything about as we offer paid work to everyone who comes to us. So you need to be a UK citizen or have the correct paperwork to take self-employed work in the UK.
If you can tick that box - why not come and join us and enjoy the famously laid back Cornish vibe!

Enjoying the Cornish delights of pasties, clotted cream, surfing & fishing and, quite often, rain.
In all seriousness we're a great place to learn practical skills whether it's painting the shower block or starting campfires, learning to drive a quad bike, growing herbs or mixing Pimms for wedding guests; are some more practical than others? Definitely!
Cornwall is a classic part of the British countryside and is well renowned for it's coastal walks and sandy beaches, it's a great place to be part of a community and for anyone interested in working with us from overseas your English skills are guaranteed to improve from working with our lovely team!

We always pay workawayers at least minimum wage and, depending on their skill set, sometimes more. We're looking for people definitely 18+ and prefer people 20+ - who are happy to get stuck in and join the team. Please note, as mentioned above, we can only host workawayers who have permission/visas to work in the UK. It's Brexit and we hate it!
We love people who have:
- experience with cafe work including chefs/pizza oven cooks/baking/waiting staff/bar work/cocktails
- experience with housekeeping & changeovers - but it's not hotel rooms it's tipis!
- experience dealing with customers
- experience working in a team
- experience in events (but can learn on the job)
- can capably use power tools (such as strimmers, drills, mowers, chainsaws etc); there's always lots of things to be fixed and maintained
-experience with driving a quad bike is good but can be taught
-basic computer knowledge; it's nothing extreme but we have an online booking system you'd need to be able to check daily
We also love:
1) people who want to join our housekeeping crew - who take care of cleaning the tipis for changeovers, cleaning the loos and keeping them stocked of loo rolls and soaps, and organizing our storage barn. If you're naturally organised and good at cleaning then you'll pick this up in no time!
2) people to join our site maintenance crew where work involves: putting up and taking down tipis, driving quads and lawnmowers, building things using woodworking skills e.g. our new wooden jetty on the lake was finished by the crew recently.
3) people with chef experience or cooking know-how (to help out in the funky on-site cafe The Tipi Kitchen) who can turn their hands to anything from wood-fired pizzas & world food nights to cocktails & coffees & scrummy breakfasts!
There is a lot of work with power tools with the maintenance crew like trimmers, chainsaws, drills etc. So ideally people who are capable or experienced with these things would be the best fit.
As a large site we can always do with adept gardeners to help along our flora and fauna and to clear away weeds, nettles and brambles when they appear and there's the cafe garden to grow fresh herbs etc for use on the menu.
As it's an unusual job (most people don't work with tipis regularly) we will of course offer training for all your regular tasks; you'll be trained by a member of staff as well as learning on the job.
There's a lot of of dealing with campers on holiday and wedding guests, checking them in on arrival and saying goodbye when they leave, plus just in passing or they have a few quick questions - so good people skills is always a big plus!
Please let us know what your experience is and what time period you're available for when contacting us. :)

Acomodação
We can offer you accommodation on our site; this is usually in the shape of a staff caravan (very occasionally during busy periods it might be a tipi) but you are also welcome to bring your own campervan if you have one.
What you will need is to be able to drive and also to have your own vehicle because we are in a very rural area and even the nearest swimming beach is about 5 mins drive - but you can swim in the campsite lake whenever you like!
In terms of food there are local shops in the surrounding villages & larger supermarkets in the nearby towns of Wadebridge or Bodmin. There's also our onsite cafe where you get a discount.
Algo mais...
We are just inland from the historic and picturesque fishing village of Port Isaac (the filming location for Doc Martin and home to the Fishermen's Friends).
We are surrounded by country lanes good for cyclists and coastal walks are abundant.
We are about a 15 minute drive from the surfing hub of Polzeath.
Local transport is pretty irregular but you can catch buses from Port Isaac to Polzeath, and from St Kew Highway (10 minutes from site) to Wadebridge. There are also local taxi companies.
