Family needs a hand for general tasks like watering the vegetable garden, weeding, looking after the dogs and hens, chopping wood etc.
We are living in the countryside but can provide a car or bikes.
You can learn sewing with me as I used to be a seamstress, and get some cooking skills with me as I volunteer as a chef for a rugby team, but also work out with the kids who are rugby players.

the seaside property is 200m from the seaside, but we don't go there during summertime.

We spent a few days at Claire's place and had a great stay. The family is very opening and welcoming.
The work we did was mostly around the house, we had different tasks in the garden like weeding, planting or repairing the pool for the hens and ducks. Claire is a really good cook, so we enjoyed delicious meals with the whole family every night.

I had a wonderful experience with Claire and her family! I stayed with them at their home in the country for three weeks in April May.
The work i did was mainly gardening (watering and planting vegetables, really easy) and sewing in her small studio, which I really enjoyed. Never more than 4h/day.

I couldn't have had a better first Workaway experience.

I was worried, going for the first time, being quite a shy person and not practicing any French save conversational with tourists for a few years. Claire was always welcoming from the beginning, not just with my French, but encouraging for me to try new things, asking about Scotland, the… read more differences between our countries, and always had something interesting to share about the landscape or local sites.

The 10-year-old twins (Salut Angeron et Serafan!) were charming and cute, not just as kids go, but for anyone. (Did you know in France, it's called 'Le Dabbe'?) They were well-spoken, mature and polite for their age, and more often than not knew an English word I was yet to find in French. When and if I did look after them, they often looked after themselves, but I'd encourage you to try French with them if you can, since they really seem to appreciate it. So much so, that by the end of the ten days, they had asked I counted at least three separate times when and if I was coming back, and I felt guilty at the fact it could only maybe be next year,

Claire was even accommodating for my shyness and anxiety on the one day, when the family was going to a Rugby tournament in the Isle over, I asked if it would be alright to stay home for the one day, to which she said 'No problem'.

But when we were going out, we did plenty you could ask of for a week and a half. The beautiful Oleron beach (twice) the weather was scorching (Great for a Brit) and Claire did what she could for my asking to play somewhere, looking all over the town and being more than apologetic when we couldn't find anything. Maybe next August.

Claire's food was an excellent introduction to the French stereotype. Even the simplest meals were full of flavour, and beforehand she messaged asking my food preferences, from the veggies I ate, I can say vegetarians or vegans will be in good hands.

As for the work, if that's your worry, it was simple and rewarding. Just painting a room or weeding or mowing a garden, nothing to make you feel like a workhorse or not part of the family, you feel good helping someone renovate their house knowing that it'll help. I never felt overworked or used, Claire letting me work at my own pace, which encouraged me to try to work maybe a little bit faster.

I'd recommend the place, people, trying Workaway.
