From the minute I came, Susana made sure that I had no doubts about what she expected me to do, her teaching me the chores of the house little by little. The tasks were simple: in the morning, I helped their two very
… read more independent girls get ready for school. Afterwards, I spent some time cleaning the house, so everything was clean and organized, just like Susana prefers it: as she tends to say “todo en su sitio”. Some days I cooked lunch for the family, other days Susana had already prepared something that I just had to heat up. Dividing the tasks in the household was never a problem! Then sometime after lunch, I did English class with the girls, and that is pretty much it. This means that during the day, while the girls were in school, I had a lot of time to myself to go for walks with their lovely dog (that I am really going to miss), do exercise, or to do whatever I wanted. And in the nights there were also lots of free time to watch movies with the family or spend time with the girls!
I, as a helper, was there to make sure that there was clean clothes, that the house was clean and that the girls improved their English, but as aforementioned, I have not merely been a helper in the house - I have felt very much at home, and as a part of the family. Not only have I gotten an authentic insight into the life of an Andalusian family, I have also gotten a second family. With the family, I have enjoyed delicious meals over good talks. I have enjoyed nights of parties and dancing, as well as more quiet nice with all of us watching movies together. I felt that they cared about me and took care of me, and in general they made a huge effort to make sure that I felt comfortable and welcome. Despite being busy with work, they always found time to spend with each other (and me), and I can assure you that this is a house full of life, love, and singing (and also sometimes yelling which I have learned does not mean angryness).
The two girls are a pleasure to spend time with: they are smart, funny, have good imaginations, are full of crazy ideas (some better than others) and extremely independent. On cloudy days they have cheered me up with their silliness and liveliness. When you live in a foreign country with people you do not know, who speak a language you do not speak, you need a place where it is easy and safe to be. For me, the girls have been my safe place. So thank you girls for being lovely, crazy and energetic. You two are smart, important, brave, strong and independent!

I would spend my mornings getting the girls ready for school, hanging laundry and cooking lunch. While they are at school you have plently of time to explore the town, go for walks/runs/bikerides within the beautiful countryside. Some days i'd do english class with the girls and play soccer with them and others I would have time to myself as they went to soccer. There is an hour long bus to Granada every weekday at 9 and it returns at 2. The family even let me spend a night in Granada and take some days off to visit! On the weekends I would go out with the young people of the town who Susanna puts you in touch with through her nephew. They sure love to party! The family would always invite me to their plans and I always had a great time.
They were very patient with my spanish and I improved a lot! The 2 daughters are amazing at english and very fun to play with(futbol, dancing, chess, etc.) Awesome workaway if you are looking to get away from the city, experience true andulucian culture, and improve your spanish(almost no english speakers). … read more think has to do with the humorous vibe and the easygoing mentality. They even taught me how to eat, drink and dance as Spaniard🥳 The karatewarriors/monkeys/honeys are giving you a blast of a time with laughters and time to focus on English- amazing girls!
Activity is also a main key in the family. Susana introduced me to step and workout in the garage as it was a fitness center. Francis and the monkeys taught me how to play paddle and we spent loads of hours on the soccer field too. Adriana and Sussie are brilliant players, so be ready to get your ass kicked;)
It’s important for them that you feel comfortable and that there are a mutual respect and flexibility between all. It meant that my family and friends visited me in Montillana, and spent a few day here, Malaga and Granada.
They enlightened me with all aspects of the Spanish culture and feel extremely lucky that I found them. This family has been giving me loads of memorable experiences.

… read more I'm very sad that I already have to leave this lovely house. This trip has given me so much. Much more than I could ever have hoped for. From the moment I arrived, I already felt part of the family. It’s a very sweet, loving, open, funny, kind, generous, festive, and happy family that only spreads good energy, and lives a wonderful life in Montillana.
Here you’ll have your own huge room, with your own access to a terrace. The food is always delicious and very Spanish. They are very considerate and sweet, and always ask me if I want to go with them. I’ve had a great time with my two little monkeys Adriana and Susana <3. I’m gonna miss them so so so much. They are the cutest girls in the world, and I feel very lucky that I’ve spent so much time with them. They are very outgoing and not afraid of anything. They are always ready to play football, make pancakes or put on crazy costumes. Adriana and Susana speak English very very well, and love to speak in English. The parents Susana and Francis are fantastic - very hard working, hospitable and not least festive. We are always laughing in this house. They both work in the village - Francis on his farms, the asparagus fields, and in his oil company. Susana in "El Ayuntamiento", where she helps the citizens of the village. She also loves to do sport and drink wine ;D. Everyone in this beautiful village is so happy, friendly, open, and loving. They have taught me a lot about Spanish culture, something I would never have experienced if I hadn't ended up here. I'll bring home so many great memories - Flamenco dancing in the farmhouse, trips to El Pelón (the local bar), and aaaall the other great experiences with this family. In addition, there is a magical community in Montillana that I will have to return to.
I would love love love to come back to this house one day!

… read more some fantastic walks with the family. I spoke English with the twins and developed my Spanish skills. I had the opportunity to teach English lessons as well, for which I was paid.
Unfortunately, I had to cut my stay short as my grandma was ill and the family were very understanding and kind about this.
Regarding profile:
The profile states 3-4 hours maximum work, 5 days a week. Unfortunately I have to say that this was not my experience. At one point I was left solely responsible for the twins for a whole weekend, including overnight, which hadn't been clearly arranged or agreed. I struggled with this as the twins became bored and I was not resourced to entertain or discipline them.
I suspect, and hope, this was a result of miscommunication, but it was too much for the twins, as they missed their parents.

Montillana overall is a picturesque quiet village in the mountains, perfect if you want to have some rest from the noise of the city . Locals are nice and friendly and village gets very lively during the weekend so you would have an opportunity to meet lots of young people and have fun.
Location of the village is just perfect only half an hour drive from Granada . Especially it's convenient if you have a driving license so you can just borrow a family's car and go to visit Granada city any time you're free. In addition , there are buses going to Granada and back every day .
Overall , I enjoyed my stay and learned a lot about the local culture!
I can't express with words how thankful I am for the family of Susana and Francis for their support , care and kindness ! I was looking for a workaway experience , but found a home instead!
