I'm not sure if resumming my 5 weeks with Maaike will be an easy or difficult task to do, since I wouldn't know where to start from. Finding an accurate and honest host in this platform is not always easy, but with Maaike I feel like I won the lottery. She's one of the most easy going and honest people I've found in a long, long time. Everything
… read more was clear from the beginning, the communication was excellent and I ended up finding a beautiful person, that I consider a friend now. Her dogs are gorgeous and I still miss their company, not only during the working shifts, but in general. She was very respectful of my privacy and treated me with lots of consideration. I wish more hosts were like her, honest, simple and generous.
She trusted me enough to leave me her house and dogs for two weeks, which I really appreciate. We shared thoughts and some time together, time enough to get to appreciate her human quality.
The job was hard, but very enjoyable, and her place is a little piece of paradise, where you can mix hard work with time to rest and relax, surrounded by nature and loving dogs.
I already thanked you personally, Maaike, but I want to do it again, since with you I could find the peace and space I needed to organize my thoughts and start afresh with the next stage of my journey. 100% recommendable.

Maaike is such a warm and kind-hearted person. On incredibly short notice, she welcomed us into her home with open arms. I was driving from Germany to Portugal with my horses dog, searching for a place to stay along the way, and Maaike offered her stunning place, though calling it just a place doesn’t do it justice. … read more never been to Hawaii, there’s no need to go, Maaike’s place felt so much like the Big Island! The atmosphere was truly beautiful, and the moment I arrived, I felt an incredible sense of peace.
She even let us stay in one of her renter’s rooms while he was away. I’m beyond grateful for her generosity.
We had a bit of an adventure getting there, despite her efforts to guide us onto the right road. We ended up in an absolutely impractical dead-end street, where it was impossible to turn around with the horse trailer. The situation escalated as we had to unhook the trailer, unload the horses, and then, to top it all off, accidentally backed the trailer into a gate because the road sloped downhill. At dawn at like 5:30am Maaike rushed to our rescue with incredible kindness and calm, even though she was on her way to work. She helped us with such love and ease, it was truly amazing. She is a life saver 🫶🏽
As for the horses, they had the time of their lives in her “garden,” which was more like a vast, natural meadow. From the very first moment, Maaike made us feel completely at ease. She has such a calm, spiritual, and heartwarming presence that it’s impossible not to feel at home.
She also kindly invited us to meet her friends.
In return, we helped her with some renovation work on a charming little house of hers.
I would come back in a heartbeat and wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone :)))

It was so nice to meet Anika and travel friend. Anika came with her horses and dogs. That whole experience was so much fun. It was just a couple of days and in return Anika painted a little house in a very fast way, thanks so much for sharing this experience with me Anika!

Han sido 5 semanas inolvidables en compañía de Maaike y su manada. Hay varios perros necesitados de rehabilitación social y ha sido una gran experiencia para mi el poder colaborar en ello. También hay trabajo de jardín y huerto. Maaike es simplemente estupenda!

Danny and Noemi are lovely lovely people and became our friends. They made the whole workaway experience so fun and worth while last months. Danny and noemi contacted us and after that we decided to phone. Both them and we had good feelings, noemi and Danny were very flexible and also send me picture what they had done in the past. … read more that they are indeed skilled and can do a lot!
When they arrived all went good and they were focused on what they could help us with. They also saw the work suggesting that they could do this or that. We also made a list of things to fix and they went for it. They work very fast and always want to help. Noemi also like to Cook after the work. She definitely worked waaaaay more than those 5 hours. She is a busy bee, always finds something to do and almost never sits still. You can something relax noemi ;)
Danny is skilled with cutting the trees, fixing almost all technical things and is creative in that. Dogs love him and after they already did big jobs, in the evening both Noemi and Danny also took our shelter dogs for walks.
In short sentence: everybody loves Danny and Noemi. I really recommend you to anybody who needs help. I'm very thankful for everything you gave us!

Staying with dani and maakia has been nice experience. learning and seeing maakia love and passion for animals was nice and getting to know dani and maakia as a couple that has now turned to friends I wish them the most luck and hope to see them soon good luck

Simone stayed with us for a week and really wanted to work. She is a very active girl with a positive mindset. She was nice to have around. She is also clean, did not make any noise and did a lot for us. In the beginning it was a bit unclear because we did not have a lot of experience but in the end it worked out great! … read more all vegan. Did some painting and helped with the dogs. Also the dogs loved her, even though they were so big and she had to get used to have those big dogs around. I stayed with Maaike and Dani for one week. They were very welcoming, made me feel at home and never pressured me to do something. I helped Maaike with the dogs, did some painting around the house, some cleaning jobs and I also cooked vegan meals for them several times, which was all very appreciated. I also had many nice conversations with Maaike :)
The dogs all have their own personality, some need more attention than others, but they are all friendly.
Maaike really cares for the dogs and always makes sure that they are happy and well looked after :)
Maaike and Dani live in a very quiet area and there is not a lot to do around and there are no buses or trains closeby. So if you are travelling alone, you might get a little bored if you are staying with them for a long time. But this might be different for everyone.
If you are travelling with your own car or if you are travelling as a couple, it might be easier to go out and explore the area. It's not a very long drive to the sea.
Overall I had a good time here and would recommend going here if you love dogs and if you are looking for a place where the work is not too hard and where there is also plenty of time to relax.

Maartje is a big gift the universe sent us. Sound dramatic maybe, but thats how I experienced her stay! She was/is really nice to have around and helps a lot. She saw things in the household what we never discussed (in a good way!) and showed a lot of initiative. When I had puppies in the house, normally I had to clean all the pee's and poo's
… read more first thing when I woke up. But when Maartje was here, I woke up in a clean house! That was really nice haha.
Maartje is communicating very well and likes to be around people. But also likes to spend some time apart to call her family and friends or to make a big walk. She is easy going and likes to work. She is a clean person and loves the dogs. The dogs love her too! They trusted her within a second! Maartje is not scared and likes new things. She is thinking with you as well and comes with great ideas! I definitely recommend her to everybody! Such a big help!

Maaike is doing an amazing job taking care of so many dogs, trying to give all some love every day, hand feed puppies and in the meantime keep the household going, work on her handcrafts and be a good partner all at the same time.

Even if you're rather working with woods / building / painting, you can't be in / around the house if you're not a big dog lover, cause you will be surrounded by a lot of furry friends all day <3
Maaike and Dani showed me around in Villablanca and invited to fun places with their friends as well. I felt super welcome from the beginning. Even though Dani doesn't speak English very well and my Spanish is very limited, we got along super well. He's a fun, friendly guy that does his own thing when he's at home but also likes a drink together.
Maaike is an amazingly sweet young woman with a lot of experience with animals so you can learn a lot from her. Not all the dogs are 'easy' and she's dealing with everything with so much love and patience. Also on a personal level we got along very very well. I can truly call her a friend and I'm 100% sure I'll come back here :)
