Thank you for reading our profile and we look forward to connecting with you. We are a 501c3 nonprofit purpose driven homestead seeking help supporting projects on our property and aspiring ecovillage. We are the stewards of a 19th century farm on a 20 acre property located in the Berkshires. We welcome like-minded people into our refuge in the rural countryside. We are seeking talented individuals to join us in the restoration and ongoing maintenance of the property. We follow permaculture principles and the Market Garden program of Jean-Martin Fortier and have a variety of initiatives in need of partners, leaders and colleagues. Specifically, we are seeking individuals with skills or an interest in developing skills in the following areas:

    Carpentry
    Gardening
    General maintenance
    Hosting & Hospitality
    Social Media
    Cooking
    Trail construction and maintenance
    Plumbing
    Electrical
    Farming
    Permaculture Design

We anticipate that volunteers will split their time supporting projects inside the and on the grounds. We are seeking at minimum a 1 month commitment and have the opportunity for extended internships if we both agree that we are a good fit.

An important emphasis of our nonprofit is on education as it relates to planetary and personal well being. We see education as a process of internal development and a simultaneous process of skill building that helps people navigate society effectively and in alignment with their values.

Building connection and coming to know ourselves and each other more clearly is an important part of this process. The mix of shared work experience, informal time and opportunities for personal and shared reflection facilitate these aspirations.

We will set goals with each individual that take into account their personal orientation in ways that support the larger vision of the Center for reGenerative Ecology. We will inquire as to the aspirations of each workaway and do our best to fashion a work and learning program that simultaneously fulfills the Workaway‘s individual needs and contributes to the larger vision of our initiative.

We have two kinds of regular meetings. Weekly community meetings allow us to process our experiences and think together in an open minded learning environment. Project meetings focus on the tasks we are engaged in each week, the know how and resources necessary to fulfill those tasks, any challenges that have come up and progress toward our goals.

We will convene regular meetings with the team weekly and individual meetings with each Workaway every two weeks. Other approaches include regular meals and periodic viewing of a relevant movie with dialogue and discussion. Also field trips to a variety of cultural opportunities in the area including theater, music, museums and historic sites will happen periodically.

We will also meet periodically with the entire team, including staff and workaway associates, to discuss significant issues as they relate to the situations on the earth today. We have a particular focus on food and the food system as a leverage point for systemic change. Particular topics will be explored such as food security, individual and social health and well being and the capacity to grow nutritious food for a growing population in ways that preserve cultural diversity. All of this will be seen in the light of how local agriculture could impact climate change.

We will eat together regularly and will focus on a variety of cuisines with an effort to understand the current state of the local and global food system. The well being of various cultures and the potential of a local, organic or Permaculture approach to feed the planet will be explored. We will also look at the impact of the industrial food system as it affects so many different areas of life including the health and well-being of individuals, the healthcare system, the environment and climate change.

We will explore a variety of cultures over time including:

Mediterranean cultures such as Moroccan, Italian, French,Spanish and Greek.
Middle Eastern cultures such as Lebanese, Syrian and Israeli.
Asian cultures such as Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai.
Latin American cultures including Mexican, Ecuadorian, Brazilian, Argentinian and Costa Rican.
Regional American cuisines and cultures as Southeastern, Californian, Puerto Rican, New York Immigrant, and New England Yankee

As time allows we will look at the situation in the global south, its relationship to the “developed” world, the US in particular, and the legacy of colonization.

Our overall emphasis is on the central role of the food system in the life of individuals and cultures and the potential of a reGenerative food system to help mitigate climate change while in the process offering a life and a living for future generations.
