All I can say is, wow. I stayed for 3 weeks with Francesca and her mom and it was such an amazing experience. Francesca is so warm and welcoming and her large family is full of beautiful, kind people. I loved watching Rosanna and the Zias hanging out together in the kitchen! … read more uncle, or friend. Staying with Francesca was such a delightful taste of southern Italian culture. I was in awe of the wonderful people and the beauty of Salento the entire 3 weeks!
My stay felt like a perfect cultural exchange. I had so much fun helping to teach English to Francesca's students. I taught English words to one student in particular who would respond by giving me the Italian equivalent so that I could learn too. I introduced him to some classic American children's books and it was so cool to watch his interest in English grow. Francesca also taught me some words and inspired me to continue learning Italian even now that I am back in the US.
Rosanna, Francesca's mom, is a fantastic cook and I felt so spoiled getting to eat the delicious meals that she made. I got to try so many new things like lumache and cavallo! We made pizza and also orecchiette while I was there. I took videos of the technique Francesca showed me and now I can make my own orecchiette at home! Just wow. I felt so included in their daily life which meant the world to me. I'm so glad I got to share my own culture a little bit and introduce American chocolate chip cookies to everybody!
Finally, Francesca drove me all over Salento during my stay and showed me how beautiful this part of the world is. I'm so, so grateful that Francesca was keen to play tour guide because this place is so special. It made me fall even more in love with Italy. I can't say enough how much I loved this experience with Francesca and her family. Francesca, you are welcome any time in New York. Margaret is a very nice and kind person. She stayed with my family for 2 and a half months. It was always ready to help me during my English lessons with students of all ages. She is very creative and the kids had a lot of fun with her. We spent a lot of time enjoying beautiful walks in the nature too. She is a teacher of life as well as of

Rosanna was so caring and constantly feeding me. I felt very lucky to be able to experience true Italian culture and cuisine and even learnt how to make pasta.

She is very empathetic and sensitive. She was very good at training my dog, Margot, and at taking care of her since she had an operation and I didn't have much time to stay with her.. Maybe I stressed her a bit with English grammar by asking her many "ridicolous" things, like verb patterns, prepositions and so on, but she was always patient and kind and she made everything easier. She taught me even to put on my make-up. She's the perfect sister.
I missed all our evenings spent on cooking by listening to some good music, and our conversations about all aspects of life. She's very open-minded and she'salways ready to chill with people
My mum was so sad when she left. Even if she doesn't speak English, she could feel her positive and kind soul since the first moment. She enjoyed her dishes and she liked to have such a nice guest. She still laughs for their fun language misunderstandings.
I wish I had had more time to stay together.

I spent my days helping Francesca and her students improve their English, trained the loveliest, craziest Jack Russel in the world (Margot) helped with the cooking and explored all of the beautiful sights of nature around the area. Beaches, cliffsides, woodland, historic towns and churchs, the nearby city of Leche; there is a lot to see and Francesca was kind enough to show it all to me. I met lots of new, interesting people, made some amazing memories, and I cannot thank Francesca enough for welcoming me into her life with such love and light.
