Descrição
The Okanagan Valley is often called the fruit basket of British Columbia, with long, hot summers and a strong community of small agricultural producers.
We are a family of 3 adults and live on 8 acres in rural South/East Kelowna, with views stretching west toward Okanagan Lake and the surrounding mountains. We try to care for the land thoughtfully, with a focus on regenerative, low-impact practices.
Our property includes herb and vegetable gardens, areas we are restoring to native plants, and ongoing outdoor projects as we continue to shape and care for the land using regenerative, spray-free practices.
While we do operate a small business on the property, we are NOT SEEKING ANY HELP RELATED TO THE BUSINESS. We have separate staff for those operations.
Our Workaway listing is solely for general help with the maintenance of our property primarily garden care, outdoor upkeep, and small projects around the land where we live as a family.

Oportunidades de intercâmbio cultural e aprendizado
During your stay, you may have the opportunity to learn:
• Seasonal gardening practices and plant care
• Working with herbs and edible plants
• Principles of regenerative, spray-free growing
• Basic DIY garden and property projects
• An introduction to harvesting and, occasionally, how we distill plants grown on the farm
There’s no formal instruction, but we’re always happy to share what we know as we work alongside you.
The Okanagan Valley is a semi-arid region best known as an international wine producing region. Kelowna is the first city in Canada designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy - as we are an agricultural regional full of producers of every type. Our farm is located in rural South Kelowna, and there are a number of small agricultural producers in this area. We are within easy access to one of the entry points of Okanagan Mountain Park as well as the Myra Canyon Trestles and Bellevue Creek – these are all beautiful areas to hike and bike and enjoy nature. Within walking distance is Soma Craft Cidery – which is one of our favourite neighbourhood haunts. We are 10km from Okanagan Lake, which is 135km long and it extends from Vernon to Penticton. There are many public beach accesses and parks and the lake is busy in the summer with swimmers, paddleboarders and boaters. The closest neighbourhood to us is the South Pandosy area of Kelowna which is a wonderful area of small independent shops, grocers and restaurants.

Ajuda
We are looking for seasonal help with:
• Garden maintenance (weeding, planting, harvesting)
• Vegetable garden support
• General property upkeep
• Occasional small DIY outdoor projects
There is always a variety of hands-on work to do, and we aim to keep the experience flexible and balanced.
We typically ask for approximately 4 hours of help per day. We often work together on tasks, but also spend time working independently in different areas of the property to stay on top of things. During the hotter summer months, we work in the mornings—usually starting between 6–8am and finishing before lunchtime.
We’re looking for people who enjoy physical, outdoor work and are comfortable spending several hours a day in the garden. A reasonable level of fitness is helpful, as much of the work involves walking, lifting, and using hand tools such as shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows.
Our days are shaped by the weather and the season, so flexibility and a willingness to adapt are important. Some days are more active than others, and we appreciate people who stay engaged and take pride in completing tasks.
We primarily use hand tools to care for the property, along with small garden tractors and trailers. We’re happy to provide guidance if you haven’t used this type of equipment before.

Our son-in-law is from France and our daughter and grandchildren are bilingual. Although they do not live at the farm, we do try to maintain our basic conversational French and are very willing and grateful learners!
Acomodação
Accommodation is in a private, self-contained cottage on the property, with a bed/sitting room, kitchen, and full bathroom. Laundry is available in a nearby building. The cottage is set up for you to prepare your own meals, and we’re happy to share herbs and seasonal produce from the garden. It can accommodate two people. It is private and quiet and has a parking area outside the fence if needed.
The cottage has a bathroom with shower, a galley kitchen (no dishwasher), convection range, small fridge, coffee maker and kettle. The main room doubles as a bedroom and living area. We have Ikea beds that can be set up as 2 singles or a king. There is sufficient storage space for clothing and personal items. There is an outdoor deck with an overhead awning and outdoor dining table and chairs.
It is fully furnished with bedding, towels, cooking utensils and cutlery.
There is an air conditioner that cools the entire space.
We provide you with the kitchen basics - coffee, tea, dairy, grains, and fresh, local eggs and produce to make your own meals.
We are aware many people have dietary restrictions, so please let us know if you have any.
We have 2 bikes for guests to use and are happy to drop off at bus stops or take you into town by arrangement. There is access to a small washer and dryer in another farm building.
Algo mais...
We’re connected with a number of small agricultural producers in the area. If you’re interested in exploring paid seasonal work during your time in the Okanagan, we’re happy to share contacts and help you get oriented within the local farming community.
The Myra Canyon Trestles are a spectacular place to hike or bike, and a favourite outing from the property. It’s possible to ride all the way toward Naramata and finish with a swim in the lake—we’re happy to help with logistics and can arrange a pick-up in Penticton if you’d like to make a day of it.
This area is well known for its hiking, with many trails easily accessible nearby. We keep maps in the cottage to help you explore.
As we grow many aromatic plants, there are bees on the property. They are very focused on their work and not bothersome. A small number of hives are kept on the lower part of the farm, well away from the cottage.
We are a non-smoking property.
We also share the farm with a very friendly small dog named Mica and a cat named Biggie.
