Zac was a wonderful host.
The area was beautiful and the food was great. Super close to Glacier national park. You can even bike there if you don't have a car and take free shuttles to get around the park.
I enjoyed getting to know him and his girlfriend Shawn.

In our short time working together I found her to be extremely courteous and polite, very thoughtful, hard working, and dedicated. Though she is quite young she has lots of practical knowledge and life experience that make her a very capable and valuable workawayer. … read more conditions,: they operated chainsaws to fell trees and cut firewood, helped lift and move heavy logs, cleared brush and fed it to the chipper/mulcher, limbed and cleared with axes, and they never complained and actually seemed to enjoy all the hard manual labor!
They also meshed well with all the other people and personalities they encountered during a fairly busy time. They're very easy going and fun to get to know and be around, and they have excellent skills for communal living. I quickly found I could trust them to take care of themselves and I appreciated their independent spirit. Overall it was a great experience, I'd absolutely recommend each of them individually or both as a couple, and I' love to have them back any time- thanks Darian and Alexa!

She is curious about the world and eager to learn, and very polite, friendly, and easy to get along with. Aside from the work, Athulya was very gracious in often cooking delicious, healthy meals for the both of us. She has a calming and peaceful presence, an openness about her, and understands and appreciates the beauty and comfort that can be found in the simple things in life. We worked together on a variety of closing tasks, as well as some small construction projects. We were also able to split the cooking and cleaning and other routine things without much discussion or difficulty, always a plus.
I appreciated his openness, friendly demeanor, and easy going nature. The highlight of the experience for me was connecting with a fellow workaway host with a similar (if more extensive and impressive) resume and trajectory as a small time lodging and tourism entrepreneur. It was certainly a fruitful encounter and I absolutely recommend hosting him if you have the chance. Thanks Aldrich!

… read more polite, conscientious, intelligent, funny, good conversationalist, independent, and on and on.
He stayed with me for about two months, so this is not a superficial impression but truth borne from the experience of working together for a significant portion of the summer season. He helped me construct a deck, an outdoor kitchen, helped with felling trees and clearing brush, assisted with electrical and plumbing projects, helped with gardening, and helped with housekeeping my lodging units. He was also always willing to help as needed with food prep, dishwashing, tidying, and other general communal living tasks. He was able to take care of himself for his own adventuring and entertainment but was also equally game for group recreation and was always a blast to have along.
This is all simply to say that I cannot recommend Cullen highly enough as a workawayer, for all the reasons listed above as well as many others I'm sure I missed. I'm very grateful that in a pandemic year where I hosted significantly fewer people than in years past, that Cullen was one of them. He was definitely the standout and I can't see how the season could have been the success that it was without his crucial help. We got a lot of good work done inside and out, including working on the beginnings of a living roof, setting pavers for an outdoor kitchen, installing insulation and weatherproofing a house exterior, not to mention a semi-successful foray into some dubious DIY electrical engineering. He's also the type that jumps right in to help out with the little things like tidying up and doing dishes which really counts for a lot. Most of all, I had a lot of fun just having him around, enjoying the outdoors and a few beers and good food, and discussing the crazy state of our world. Very highly recommended. … read more hi. It makes for a really fun atmosphere. The place itself is a beautiful block and Zac (and many workawayers!) have done really well transforming it into a great communal space with a few different lodgings.
Obviously it goes without saying that being so close to Glacier National Park is a massive bonus and Zac was really mindful of making sure I could experience it while I was there. We went on a couple of great walks together and when he was out of town on work, Zac left a full fridge of groceries and put me in touch with friends who were keen to go and explore more.
All in all I had a blast hanging out with Zac and his mates, and even came back a couple of months later to say hi. He’s a fun guy with a great sense of humour and is always good for a chat. I would thoroughly recommend a stay.

Aside from being a competent, quick-learning, and trustworthy self-starter, Owen was also just a fun guy to have around. I really enjoyed getting to know him and hanging out over a beer after a productive day. In fact my only regret is that I didn't have more free time to get out and explore Glacier with him while he was here. I am glad though to have forged a friendship which saw him return for a visit just a few months out from his stay. I can't recommend him highly enough should he seek out more opportunities through workaway in the future. Vibes don't lie, and Zac has some of the best vibes I've ever encountered. What was originally supposed to be a three week stay was extended to a total of seven weeks; the combination of Glacier National Park, Zac's property, and Zac himself was just too good to leave. Zac is the proprietor of an acre of land on which he is building his cordwood
… read more masonry house and also (very successfully) runs two guesthouse units. The work is rough, but the sense of accomplishment you get when you work with your hands is second to none. I wasn't especially familiar with using power tools and such before working with Zac, but he was an excellent teacher and always offered to help me learn about anything I was interested in. He even taught me how to change the oil on my car! If you are truly not interested in the physically demanding work, there are plenty of lighter tasks around the property such as cooking, cleaning, and gardening. Zac is an intensely ambitious person, so there's always some side project going on (or four). I think Marcus said it best when he said Zac gives new meaning to work hard, play hard. Off days were filled with hiking, rafting, thrift shopping, and so much more with Zac and his wonderfully hilarious friends. Given Zac's long history with the park, he has all the intel on the best hikes in the area, which I was incredibly thankful for.
Overall, Zac's best quality as a Workaway host is that he wants everyone to be comfortable and have a good time. During my stay, Zac was highly collaborative regarding what tasks I was interested in working on, when I wanted to be working versus hiking, what foods he should stock in the fridge, etc. I am profoundly grateful for the time I spent in Glacier with Zac and the friendship that has developed between us.

This has been by far the best work away experience I have ever encountered! Zac is such a genuine guy who is smart, funny and always up for a cold beer. His friends are great company and if you stay with him there is no doubt that you will meet them also.
The Glacier National Park is the most beautiful place I have ever seen
… read more (going to the sun road is highly recommended) and Zac, who has lived there for years, knows all the ins and outs of the area. During my stay, we were able to construct two panels of the house and do light jobs around the house. The work was occasionally time consuming, but not difficult and Zac likes to allow plenty of time for his workaways to go exploring!

These guys were also a lot fun to hang out with and have around. We had some good times playing cards, going out for a drink, or just hanging out at home after a good day of work. In catching up on reviews I realized I'd never left feedback for Jake from his 2017 stint. While it's perhaps of little use to him now, it's a glaring omission nonetheless. After two years of hosting over a dozen individuals, Jake is the standout. I really can't imagine a more fortuitous experience arising than the one I had hosting Jake.

… read more showed up a day after my foundation was poured, I think it was the first of September. Nearby Glacier Park was being ravaged by wildfire, and the smoke was nearly unbearable. In spite of this (and because exploring and hiking in the park was pointless anyway) Jake and I worked together and in the proceeding few weeks methodically erected the entire post and beam frame of the small house I'd been planning to build all summer.
We got so much more done than I expected, all thanks to Jake. After a summer of setbacks and delays my motivation was lagging and Jake was usually leading the charge on the build. To have a skilled builder arrive just in time was amazing on it's own, but I know that it was Jake's work ethic and drive that put the building process into overdrive and made it possible to head into the Montana winter with a solid structure.
He was also just great fun to hang with and have around, and I can only hope he got as much from the experience as I did. I'm not sure if he plans to utilize workaway again the future but I wish him the best of luck and hope to see him again sometime. Thanks again for everything Jake!

… read more have her cut lots of wood, both firewood and rounds of precise length for cordwood construction, but she also serviced the saw and left it running and cutting better than before she started. She's also handy with power and hand tools. I've hosted over a dozen workawayers over the past two years and I think aside from the one professional carpenter I hosted, Ali has been the most skilled traveler I've had the pleasure of working with.
Aside from her competency with construction tasks, she's got a wonderful unique personality and is always good for interesting conversation. With communal living too she is always willing to jump in and help out with cooking, cleaning, etc. I can't recommend her highly enough, and I'm so glad for all her help. I stayed over a month in Zac's place and i couldn't imagine something better. It was great! Zac is nice and welcoming. I was feeling at home and I learned a lot with him. I helped him to build his house and he was happy to share his skills. He always took time to explain you and ask your point of view . You are a full part of the
… read more project. Zac injured himself and was reduced for constructions stuff, but he didn't stop to work. It was helping me and the other workawayer everytime, assisting us in the work tasks, cooking for us, go shopping for us, etc.
He is also very easy-going. If it's a great sunny day to hike, if you are not in a good mood to work or if you feel sick, no worries, you just say to him and you have day off. His place is in the woods and very close to Glacier National Park, wich is very nice and amazing if you like nature and hiking.
Zac is very generous guy, funny and artistic. And if you're lucky you could hear his famous great single "Lean mean fat grilling machine". :)
I have also meet all his friends around who are like him, nice and welcoming. And if you bring some Cheetos with you, the doors of Pete and Sam place probably will open for you. And you'll have a chance to taste their great foods and Kombucha!

I hosted Ben for a little over month, and he was just great! The conditions were not always easy, as it was quite cold and snowy here in Montana during his stay, but despite that he maintained a great attitude even when working out in the elements. … read more "dried in" for the winter. He was also always willing to pitch in with cooking, cleaning, and other communal living type tasks. He was also just a lot of fun to get to know and hang out with. On top of everything, I was nearly incapacitated by injury for pretty much the entirety of his stay, and Ben and another workawayer saw through all my closing season duties, and he was the last to leave and made sure everything was done before he was done. He was really a life-saver and I'm so thankful he was around. I wish him good luck and hope to see him again someday!

She's got a good attitude that I know will serve her well, but beyond that, she was a great worker. Picked up quickly on new tasks, was always looking ahead for what else needed to be done, and was awesome about helping out or taking charge with the typical communal living sort of tasks like cooking and cleaning. Not to mention she's just a fun, smart person who's a pleasure to hang with. On top of it all, two days into her stay I sustained an injury which required surgery, so she literally was my right hand woman. She was so helpful with everything and I'm so grateful she was around! Such a fun, awesome, easy going and genuine guy Zac is! We had an absolute blast getting to know Zac and helping him on the house. … read more hammer in one hand and more often then not a cold beer in the other. Zac himself is a fantastic person with a great sense of humour and great friends who we did many things with like rafting, hiking, boating, spending hot afternoons in lakes and evenings in great company.
I stayed for 3 weeks and loved it all, the outdoor shower was second to none on a hot day, the kitchen and deck and general outdoor living made for a really great communal space and being situated right next to the park meant for a goldmine of amazing hikes and wildlife spotting opportunities.

… read more forget the day when he came back for what I'm sure he meant to be a quick stop to say hi and pick up a few forgotten items, and he instead jumped into the very dirty and difficult job of jacking up a trailer house to get wheels and axles on it. I didn't mean to rope him into it, but I was so glad for his help and his awesome attitude.
But aside from being a great volunteer he was really just good company and great to have around. We had a lot of fun cooking, hanging out, and having a few beers when the work day was done. He really became part of the fabric of the social world here in his short time in the area, and I and the whole Glacier family would love to have him back around any time.
