Descrição
About Imogen and the land: The Cottage is situated on an acre and a half of meadow, young woodland, ponds and garden polytunnel. It is also home to a listed megalithic site. My aim is to reinstate as much vitality as possible in the land as it might have been 4,500 years ago when the megalithic tomb was constructed.
While not listed as organic, I have worked in a collaborative way to co-create a beautiful biodiverse haven and do not the use chemicals on the land.
Help required -
I am self taught and would welcome visitors who are NOT complete beginners seeking to "learn new skills", but have some reasonable level of experience in gardening, general maintenance and household tasks to help me support and tend the house and land which offers resources to the human and other-than-human plant, and animal community in the area.
The Cottage is a very special place and offers much in terms of a creative and meditative space. Most of all, I would love to share the space with those who know the benefits of generosity and reciprocity, and feel called to come to the mystical and musical part of Ireland, and offer some of their time to connect with and support the land and the running of the house. I work with the land in a collaborative way appreciating it has its own interests which I try to accommodate in any gardening project I undertake.
I enjoy mending things and creating aesthetic and practical structures in the garden, for example, I am researching how to build a composting toilet in order to enhance the reciprocal give and take between human and other-than-human on my land. I am particularly interested in learning DIY and eco skills from visitors who have these to share and trying these out in a collaborate project.
The Cottage is situated close to several scenic beaches with a distant view of the sea from the house. A short walk from the house, here is a shop, pub and a bus stop for a service that connects with Sligo town and Bundoran and Ballyshannon in County Donegal. Good surfing and sailing within a 20 minute drive.
It takes quite a bit effort and time to introduce people to the ways of the place and generally people are only getting into their stride after a week. Over two weeks and preferably a month works best for us. It might suit people who have some online work and would like to stay attune to the land and it's rhythms. Guests are expected to offer five hours per day with two days off every week.
The guest bedroom is very comfortable and there is a bathroom, kitchen and sitting room shared with the host. We are vegetarians and generally prefer to have a meat and cigarette-free house.
I provide nourishing ingredients and we will share the cooking and cleaning duties. I expect visitors to contribute to keeping shared spaces clean and to leave their room and bathroom immaculately clean when they leave.
Please make your initial contact through the Workaway site letting me know what draws you to our place and what you might have to offer and what you hope to gain.
As you see from my calendar, I am fully booked for the rest of the year, and I am grateful to my Workaway guests who have pledged their help. Do however keep an eye on the calendar if you feel a calling to offer help as cancellations do happen and my availability may change. In addition, for those already planning for next year, there is availability for 2027.
The Workaway team, who protect the interests of the Workaway community and try to ensure adherence to the government guidelines of the country the host resides in have asked me to incorporate the following caveats which I quote directly from their correspondence and to which I also agree to comply with:
" It's important that volunteers are not relied upon as a replacement for locally hired workers...Additionally.... Workawayers will not be helping with any business-related tasks involving clients, retreats, or events, and that their help will be limited to...[the host's]... personal home and garden".
Warm regards, Imogen 🌸 -

Oportunidades de intercâmbio cultural e aprendizado
The Cottage is situated in an area steeped in ancient history, including megalithic and iron age monuments. There are many local beaches within walking and cycling distance. A surfer's haven. 5 minutes walk from the local link bus which will take you to Sligo or Bundoran in co. Donegal. Many opportunities to listen to and play music. Many poets, writers and artists choose to come and live in the area. Sligo town is a 20 minute drive away and had many cafes, 2 theatres, an excellent art gallery and a small museum. There is also an armada museum in Grange (10 minutes on the bus from the house).

Ajuda
Gardening, general upkeep of house and land and taking a part in preparing meals. What is essential is a generous spirit and a willingness to give - this inspires commensurate generosity in me!
If you are coming to housesit you will only be asked to help with Twix the cat and light tasks around my house and garden. -

Espaço para estacionar campervans
Yes, I have a large driveway and a campervan would find a happy space there. the local link bus (982) is a 7 minute walk from the house and will take you going south, to Sligo town or northwards to Bundoran in Co. Donegal - 5 buses a day. If I am free I am happy to drop to the main road where there are more bus options.

She's an incredible woman, and from our first chat I knew I had to meet her. I stayed for a week, but it felt like longer - it was deep time, not the fast-paced chronological time we get forced into. I felt welcome from the start, and knew we would understand each other well.
