Luisa came to stay and work at our place for a week, including one day with a friend that needed help to weed her garden. She fitted in well with us, and our lifestyle, conversations, meals and activities. She is quick to learn, focused, and a good worker who is willing to takes on any task she is given. … read more harvest, prep and cook food, weeded, and deep cleaned the kitchen and cracked walnuts and made bliss balls on rainy days. She took advantage of the activates here in her time off: bike riding, walking, beach, and walking. She contributed every night to meal prep and keeping the kitchen tidy. Luisa has a sunny personality, gets on with everyone has an easy going, can-do nature and we recommend her highly to any host.

I spent time in the garden, and on rainy days there were some inside tasks as well. … read more top it all off, they have a stunning property right by the water and are only a few minutes away from the beach and some walks. John also made sure to take me out for my very first trip in their canoe, and I was even allowed to use their bike to explore the surroundings.

Stan does an amazing job with every task he is given. He stayed with us for 8 days and competed all task given to him beyond our expectations. He fixed a leak in our roof, weeded, stained fences, painted wood boxes, swept out our garage, defrosted our freezer, and cleaned my car ready for sale and many other task. He willingly took on every task we gave him, and mostly working without supervision as he knew what to do once we pointed him in the right direction and gave him the tools he needed
Stan helped prepare meal, and was proactive with washing and drying dishes, unloading dishwashers, and clean-up after meals
He spend his free time walking, cycling, at the beach and kayaking and relaxing in his room
We would recommend Stan to any hosts as a willing helper who will make an effort to fit in with your home and family. His work experience makes him a practical and experienced helper.

Cher and Jon's home is situated with beautiful views of the Cable Bay coast and mountains. The tasks were not complicated for me and did not require a lot of effort. John&Cher are a fabulous host couple! What a lovely pair. I was lucky to spend just under 2wks with them(& was invited to stay longer!). Both John and Cher are wonderful creatives and musicians. Very kind and grateful people.
I spent most of my days working with John while Cher is away at work(or WFH). We spent lots of time in the garden or we
… read more worked on other house projects. Also helping with the free range chickens they have! He made sure to keep me with tasks I enjoyed doing and always provided the necessary instruction/training and tools/equipment, especially on days when I was working solo. Frequently checking in on me to make sure I was going okay. On rainy days I did inside stuff like cleaning and food storage projects.
John has such a brilliant mind. Retired Science teacher/outdoor education specialist, he is full of knowledge and some amazing stories of his travel adventures. Plus a great sense of humor! He even made sure to take me out for a paddle on the water in their canoe! They have kayaks for use and a bike if you need it. And they're happy to show you good walks around the area. They are both excellent communicators and Cher is very fair and flexible with hours worked. Log them in a book and if you do so much "over time", they make sure you get an extra day off. As long as you did 24hrs in a week.
The meals were incredible and SO tasty. We had family dinner every night and all contributed to the cooking and cleaning. A fresh garden salad almost daily! Mostly plant-based but they are very accommodating of other diets. The absolute highlight of my stay was making homemade real fruit ice cream!
Accom was a very cozy and private room in the house with a comfy queen bed. With shared toilet and shower.
During the "off time", I loved walking to the beach, taking bike rides, and reading a book in the sunny window bed.
The ONLY not-awesome feedback I have:
I wouldn't label them as "control freaks" per se, maybe borderline "micromanager". But I've happily landed on "politely pedantic". Be mindful if you are sensitive to being critiqued. They mean you no harm! They seem to be hardwired for perfection.
Seriously though, I cannot say enough good things about John and Cher. HIGHLY RECOMMEND their home for your next Workaway. :)

While she was here, she did intricate weeding amongst precious plants, (which we only let careful Gardeners do) digging, making compost and digging it in. She cleaned my car inside and out

On rainy days she revamped my recipe book and filed a huge pile of recipes that had been hanging around for years, cleaned the fridge, the kitchen drawers, the stove top, made slices, and keto muesli. She went above and beyond with the household chores often making dinner for us all, making garden salads. if you are lucky, she will make you her vegan macaroni cheese! She always joined in the clean up after dinner. Her habits are tidy and respectful. Kylie is a great communicator; requires hardly any supervision and efficiently got through the tasks we asked her to do. She has a positive, non-judgemental, peaceful view of life where it appears she take things in her stride with no drama. You can trust her to look after your home and property. We highly recommend her to any host, and we would love to have her come back and stay. Kylie, we wish you all the good things that life can bring this day and always.Comentário

They let me borrow a kayak and took me on a great local hike, they were very clear communicators and I enjoyed spending time with them. They live semi rural but there was plenty to do around like going to the beach, swimming, hiking and kayaking. They always offered the opportunity to go into town whenever they went. She was always helpful with meal preparation, very appreciative of the wholesome food, and always was there tidying up the dishes and kitchen afterwards. She took instructions willingly, said `yes’ to everything we asked her to do, and we trusted her to work unsupervised. She spent her free time swimming, walking, kayaking, being in nature and interacting with us and housemates. Marah is a gorgeous person, easy to be around, and was a willing and happy worker. She is honest with her hours, a good communicator and I recommend her very highly.

She was always helpful with meal preparation, very appreciative of what we prepared, and tidying up the dishes and kitchen afterwards. She took instructions willingly and we trusted her to work alone in our garden. She spent her free time swimming, exercising, walking, kayaking, fishing, journaling and hanging out with John and listening to his stories. Perry is a gorgeous person, very mature and insightful, and was a willing and happy worker. You will love her – we did. She is honest with her hours, a good communicator and I recommend her very highly. She is welcome back here anytime. We will miss you Perry.

Jakub stayed with us for a week, and he was an excellent helper. He worked hard, was honest with his hours of work, put in a good 4 hours work each day and needed very little supervision. … read more our vegetable garden which was overgrown. He dug it over, pulled out all the weeds, added compost, and dug the compost in, so we can now plant our summer crops. He turned over the compost bins and then refilled them layering them correctly. He also weeded and mulched our trees in the orchard. He was a good chef's assistant, and helped with dishes and clean up after dinner, tidying up after himself without being asked. He often asks if he can help around dinner time and enjoyed the meals that were different to what he eats at home. Jakub was keen exploring the local environment and he took the initiative to go walking, kayaking and collecting mussels at low tide. He is a good conversationalist over dinner and fitted in well when we had a night at the beach with friends. We wish Jakub well in his paid employment and welcome him back if he comes this way again.
