Hello everyone!

We are a Simone & Salah with our 2-year-old daughter, Yara.
There are also two cats, named Hank and Poepje and a bunch of chickens living with us.
Our place is in a valley near beautiful little village named Serrazes. In 2023, we decided to move into mountains in Portugal, nearby you will find a river, a big forest. If you search well enough in our jungle, you'll be able to find plenty of fruit trees, berry's, nut trees and, if the season is right, mushrooms.

We have our own water source and we must mention that we have a pool :)

*** WE ARE REALLY LOOKING FOR IMMEDIATE HELP***

You would basically be our right hand and for most of the time work autonomously, there are also many jobs which we would do together.
We would love you to help us with all kinds of things such as, harvesting fruit/vegetables, play dates with the kids, general maintenance, pruning trees, usual household stuff and many other things.

There is also a small but good equipped work shop where we make some crafty work, let's be creative!
Furthermore, we are asking for 25 hours of work a week, but also we think that everyone works best according to their own schedule.
Mostly we go with the flow of what feels best and with what the weather permits. Of course, you can spend and organize your free-days or free-time as you wish (there is so much to explore here!).
Or sometimes, we are just enjoying the company with some drinks and good food :)

Please note that we are looking for someone who could stay with us for at least three weeks.

You will be sleeping in a private room with your on bathroom and electric heating.

We will eat and cook our meals together. Breakfast you can have on your own or join with us as you like.

The mas is situated in the mountains, which provides plenty of opportunities to roam around and discover the area. Corsavy is at hiking distance to the Canigou (2784m), 40km from the coast and very close to Spain.
If you like the outdoors this is the place to be. You can go cycling ( we have 2 mountain bikes available) hiking, rafting, para-sailing, canoeing, and climbing. Everything is possible, even playing golf on the highest altitude of Europe, ''La Domaine de Falgos'' in the village of Saint-Laurant-de-Cerdans (1100m).There are plenty of old medieval towns around with old fortresses and monasteries. There are thermal (healing) baths in Amelie Les Bains (the closest bigger town) and every saturday there is a nice beautiful alternative market in Céret. Perpignan is reachable by bus for 1 € from Arle-sur-Tech.

Simone and Salah were exceptional hosts during the month that I stayed with them. They are generous, communicative, welcoming, and fun to be around.

They’re working on turning their home into a fully self-sustaining compound, which is an inspiring goal. The work I did was equally split between manual labor (collecting/chopping wood, helping build… read more a new enclosure for the chickens, garden work, etc) and helping take care of their daughter, Yara (more about her shortly). Early on during my stay, we developed a work schedule, which made it easy to maintain a healthy balance between work time and free time.

I had my own room and bathroom (a guest room connected to the main house, with its own entrance). In the evenings, we ate dinner, played cards, and chatted. Simone is an exceptional chef, always preparing delicious, healthy meals. Salah knows a ton about farming and sustainable practices, and I learned a lot from him about the lifestyle he and Simone are cultivating in the Pyrenees.

Their two-year-old daughter, Yara, is an absolute delight to spend time with. Taking care of a two year old requires a lot of energy, but if you like kids then I think you’ll like Yara. She’s tough, passionate, perceptive, and incredibly curious about the natural world around her.

During the first week of my stay, I felt a bit isolated. But once I settled in, the remote location and lack of cell service became huge highlights. Salah and Simone’s home is nestled in the hills, providing tons of opportunities for hiking, biking, and exploring right out the front gate of the compound. They generously lent me a mountain bike, which served as my main form of transportation during my stay. Getting to any of the nearby towns requires biking up some serious hills, but it’s a rewarding challenge and the scenery is gorgeous. There are exceedingly few cars on the roads around their house, which makes biking very accessible (on many rides, I didn’t encounter a single car). There are so many incredible things to be found up in the hills, including waterfalls and swimming holes, refuges serving food and drinks, a small dairy farm selling homemade cheese, mountain peaks with extraordinary views, and several unofficial settlements in the woods. One day, I biked to the town of Ceret, which has a phenomenal modern art museum.

On the final weekend of my stay, I hiked out to the Refuge des Cortalets, where I stayed overnight. I summitted Le Canigou the next morning and then trekked back down. I encountered many friendly hikers and roving herds of sheep on my journey. This expedition was a major highlight of my time in the Pyrenees and I’d recommend it to anyone staying with Salah and Simone.

Salah, Simone, and Yara- thank you for such an amazing stay this past summer! I hope to come back and see you all again at some point soon.
