I stayed at Jan & Andrew's finca for one month in June and loved my time there. From the moment I arrived I was made feel welcome and at home and I settled in very quickly. Paul stayed with us for a month, and it was an absolute pleasure having him around! He was an excellent help and great to hang out with. Thanks to his incredible energy and keen interest in sustainable heritage construction, we made significant progress on the old buildings.

We went on several excursions to the Puertos mountains and the beautiful Mediterranean countryside, discovering hidden corners of the region together.
Thank you, Paul, for all your hard work, especially the repointing with soft lime mortar on the side wall and the traditional construction of a wall with mud mortar and stones. Your help with cooking and cleaning around the house was also much appreciated. I think we managed to eat well and stay healthy too! Hope to see you again soon, un abrazo Jan y Andrew

It was great to have Levi with us. He spent more than a month with us in the spring, a busy time at our finca, when there are many things needing to be done, some a bit boring, others much more interesting. He helped us with all of them. He is a very willing and very helpful worker. He grew up in the countryside so has a lot of useful country

We built a stone wall experimenting with different recipes of clay, sand and hemp straw for the mortar. We pruned olives, cutting larger branches into firewood, as well as weeding, mulching and grass cutting.
He is good company. He speaks very good English, and is learning Spanish. It was a pleasure to have him around. At home he was happy to entertain himself if necessary - if we were still working for instance- but also up for joining in when we had friends over, chatting and getting on with people. We went on various trips together, to local festivals, or sightseeing, and he was always appreciative, interested in local history, geology etc. All in all we got a lot done with his help, and we really enjoyed his visit. Thank you for all that great help Levi.

I stayed at Jon and Andrew's for a bit more than two weeks and, as my first workaway experience, it was everything I hoped it would be.
The work was varied enough, and I learnt a lot about different topics through all of it: olive trees pruning, umweeding, lime mortar repointing - a topic about which Jon has a really strong opinion he's ever
… read more content to share. :) The typical work hours were from around 9 am to 2 pm with a tea break around noon. We also participated in cooking and washing the dishes. The rest of the day was free - even though Jon would occasionally need a hand with something -, and I spent most of them chilling under the olive trees.
I'm particularly grateful for their willingness to making us discover the region and the local events: we visited a few gorgeous villages around, went to a medieval market, a wine fair, hiking in the Parc Natural dels Ports, biking (with or without them, as we could freely use their bikes), a beer festival… Being there during Easter, we also had the chance to witness two Semana Santa's processions, a very particular and impressive celebration.
One should keep in mind that the living conditions are quite "rustic": the place is lost in the wild, with nearly no electricity (smartphones or power banks can be plugged through their car's battery though), showering outside, no running water (it's collected at a source nearby), dry toilets, etc. I slept on a mattress in the attic of their house, first alone, then joined by my co-workawayer in another corner of the attic.
Nothing about all of that was inconvenient, as it actually was a very enjoyable change of pace compared to urban commodities. I found it quite interesting to have a first-hand experience as to how self-sufficient and resourceful one can be: here they consume as little energy as possible, reuse everything they can, use solar lamps and radio, search for wild plants for cooking, and so on.
Speaking of their cooking, it was absolutely delicious. I must add that I was never left hungry, even though I ate like an ogre.
All in all I had a really great time and will definitely miss Jon and Andrew, as well as my co-workawayer Levi and the place itself!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

I would recommend them to any other Workaway hosts who are looking for good workers who are also great company. We will definitely see them again. I am looking forward to visiting them in Provence (tasting more of Emile's family's wine, and seeing Marine’s jewelry workshop!) and would be very happy to see them here again, both as friends and/ or helpers.

We stayed a bit more than two weeks in Jan and Andrew's masia and it was extraordinary.
From the beginning to the end we felt quite welcomed in the masia. We shared every meal together, even at their friend's house, so we were part of the family. By the way, Andrew is a hors-pair chef who prepares its meal with his heart and smile.
Jan loves to
… read more share his passion with old buildings and stones, so we had the possibility to learn a lot of working techniques from him.
They are both wonderful person who does workaway in order to do cultural exchange and not only to get labour force.
So we had plenty of interesting conversations about a strong variety of subjects.
Regarding the life in the masia, it felt like we were brought back in the old days when the life comfort was rudimentary, days are punctuated with the sunlight, nevertheless it was invigorating because we had enough time to read, think and do simple things.
What an enriching experience, I can tell you it recharges one's batteries pretty well !
We did plenty of different tasks in the masia ; painting, dry stone picking-building-shaping, trimming, weeding, gardening cleaning etc...
The surrounding is full of things to see, it is good to have a car so that you can go and visit compelling old villages (iberico or medieval) with sometimes blue facade on houses (Jan favorite thing !)
In the end it was a fantastic time that we spend there, we will remember it forever, one of our nicest workaway host and place, we will surely come back and say hello, or they will do say hello to us when they'll come and visit us in Provence !!!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.
