Renate is experiencing unpredictable body pain and also dealing with different problems in daily life. She still tried her best smiling, laughing even biking! … read more shortly. Very appreciated the gratitude song, warm bedding, lending me a bike, helmet and gloves, giving me a ride and being generous in giving compliments. My regret is didn't express my feelings and communicate at the first time and didn't go through a deeper exchange. (Also didn't have an opportunity to share my own recipe with her while she showed me a German potato salad.) In human world, time only moves forward not back, I learned the lessons in this exchange, will keep improving myself on the journey. Hope Renate have a successful surgery, good recovery and many enjoyable biking and swimming time.

Claire stayed with me a little shorter than was originally planned, but she accomplished amazing things during this time. I asked her to clean shelves in a little cabin that were really very dirty, and while I'm sure she didn't necessarily enjoy those hours, she did not flinch from doing it and did a superb job of putting everything after cleaning
… read more it in Tupperware containers to avoid these many many spices to get dirty again. She was very clear that for cleaning the many items on shelving in my house, she would clean them, put them in a large Tupperware container, clean the shelf but let me put them back so I would find them again fully understanding that she would be there just a few days but I would be in this home for the rest of my life and it was important I could find my things again and I really appreciate it this very respectful approach. Be very much enjoyed cooking together and prepared all meals together. She loved the dark German bread which you cannot find most towns in Canada and that I enjoy buying for myself and my work awares would treat like family. She was also vegetarian and this really helped in food preparation and we enjoyed our meals so much! Claire is not super outgoing and this is important to know for hosts, she does excellent work but likes to keep to herself when not working. She also did such a lovely job repainting an outside table and outside chairs, this had not been done for many years so I now really enjoy looking at this bright red furniture!

Renate is full of life and have an amazing peace of land full of trees and a beautiful cat. She's a wonderful human being that will enjoy to show you around, cook together and she's flexible on the schedule. I also loved the cabin I was staying in. Happy Fall Renate take care.

Jose showed amazing skill and fixing a plumbing issue that I thought I would have to hire a plumber for and that would have been over $100! He simply looked at some YouTube videos, asked for my box of tools and managed to have two tabs stop dripping that had dripped for a very very long time! … read more him for help with this and he saw the need and took care of it! He did an excellent job cleaning my mini Windows outside and inside, and I loved having him around, share the preparation of meals and of course eat them very very happily because he was so grateful for everything, the wonderful organic vegetarian food, and on his free day, The amazing trip we took up Island and then an unusual way back that most people don't even know exists, a tiny road with a very steep uphill mountain and he was truly in seventh heaven and expressed this to me! I would recommend them to anybody who needs a creative worker because even if he doesn't know how to do something, he will look at YouTube videos and figure it out! He's super mellow to have around, it would be impossible to ever have an argument with him. His English still needs improving which is why I only gave him four out of five for communications but this is true for most people that come here for the first time and of course I speak Spanish also so for a particular words I could always tell them in spanish. He's a wonderful person and I hope he will have many other work away opportunities if he's so chooses! I was also able to advise him in a tricky personal situation that got resolved as a result of my advice and that made me feel really good because in my work life I was actually a therapist! It was a win-win all around and I will forever keep very fond memories of him!

My stay at Renate's place was wonderful, such incredible views and is really quiet and calm. … read more with all the rain, it felt cozy and warming. Silvan, Renate's cat, was really a good company when she went out for errands and he even let me pet him. I would really recommend coming, Sidney and Vancouver Island is magical, there's a ton of things to do and everyone is kind and friendly.

I had a realy great time at Renate and her lovely forest. She was always very kind to me. Her food was realy realy good for a workaways experience. Great quality and lots to eat. The accomodation was also great. Loved the little Log Cabin. As long as you dont have a problem with spiders you are good haha ;).

Nature around her house is wonderfull
The work was more project oriantated than hour oriantated so i deffinetly worked more than 25h/week. I was fine with that as is didnt want to leave her with undone projects, but you might have to get used to that. Overall the work was very fun to do. Mostly projects around the house.
Life with her was very familiar which i enjoyed, but i guess you have to be the kind of person for this.
All in all i had a realy great time at Renate and would definetly recomend her :)

… read more this wonderful work with a joyful spirit. We shared all of our meals, and he adored everything I cooked for him. It is wonderfull to be apreciated for one‘s cuisine. I have a 99% organic and vegeterian household and I love to feed my workawayers very well and as much as they want. I so enjoyed the companionship of Christoph since I live alone and I treat my workawayers as if they were my children or Grandchildren. You will always have a home here and come back any time that I am here. You are an incredibly smart young man and will go far in this life. It has been such a pleasure living with you in the last 8 days! Thank for all your contributions to the betterment of my home and property.

From the first moment that we met, I found Jessica to be an extremely likeable person. Not only was she a competent and thorough worker, we cooked every meal together , and she had many good recepices that we shared.
My household is without coffee because I cant drink it - and she was happy to accept coffee from whatever shop we got it from.

… read more was happy to enjoy my vegetarian lifestyle, and we were able to create some delicious meals together. She was willing to accept every job that I needed done, including painting, which was the bulk of her work, as well as climbing a ladder to my roof to clean it and blowing out my gutters. She loved being on my property , especially sleeping in the sunny cottage in the garden.
We shared several outings to different lakes, and I made sure to use different routes every time, so she could see Saanich peninsula.
My only complaint is that I wish she could stay longer! But she had booked trips already, and I am very grateful for our time togehther!
