  Before applying and sending me a message, be sure to check when I need volunteers as shown in Availability table above. My sanctuary is only small and I only need one or two people, so I usually have bookings for months in advance.
  
  I'm an Australian expat and I've lived in Thailand permanently since 2008. I started helping homeless dogs and cats living on the streets in August 2015 and I now have a small sanctuary where 80+ cats and seven dogs live. It's a lot of work taking care of so many animals so I need devoted and genuine volunteers who love both cats and dogs and who are prepared to do everything and anything to help keep my cats and dogs healthy, safe and happy.
  
  I also help animals in distress still living on the streets and help Thai people get their cats and dogs spayed or neutered.
  
  Please only apply to volunteer if you absolutely love both cats and dogs with all your heart. I need people who can handle both cats and dogs and not be afraid of either of them.
  
  A calm and relaxed approach to the work and taking time to enjoy being with my cats and dogs is the best way to volunteer at my sanctuary.
  
  Since my sanctuary is small, I only need either one person or a couple only in the mornings. After training, you will be required to work some days independently and complete all tasks effectively. Since there is a lot to learn, I need people who can make a commitment to stay and help the animals and me for at least a month. Volunteers should be prepared to do the afternoon shift so that I can take a day off occasionally.
  
  Where I live is like a retirement village and there is not really any nightlife, so the volunteer position is not suited to people wanting to meet other travelers. I don't socialize myself much either. All animal lovers are welcome to apply but just be mindful that you may spend a lot of time on your own.
  
  I do not provide my volunteers with food. There is a small kitchen in my apartment where you will stay that is equipped with everything you need to cook your own simple meals. There are mini supermarkets locally and giant supermarkets in the town of Ban Phe. There are many inexpensive restaurants, Thai kitchens and food carts in the area.
  
  My sanctuary is about two kilometers from my apartment so you will need to ride bicycle/s to the sanctuary or you can hire a motor bike locally.

  Helping at my sanctuary you will have an opportunity to stay in a mostly Thai holiday destination where there are not so many international tourists. You will learn about Thai society and Thai people and their culture from my experience of living in the country and you might meet some local people and also other expats who live here.

  The work is divided between me and volunteers and includes:
  
  Feeding
  Prepare food for the cats and dogs, feed them and clean up after they've finished. This also requires observing the cats and dogs eating and identifying a cat or dog who may not be eating due to illness.
  
  Cleaning
  Clean the areas where the cats and dogs live to get rid of pathogens that can cause disease. This requires scrubbing of concrete areas, floors, furniture and other surfaces with diluted bleach, so you will need to wear old clothes, protective foot wear and gloves. Volunteers also need to clear the cats and dogs areas of poop.
  
  Grooming
  Clean the cats' ears and brush the cats to remove loose fur. Shower the dogs if necessary.
  
  Give the animals love and attention
  Spend time with the cats and dogs to pat, cuddle and play with them. If time allows, I will transport volunteers and one or two dogs to the beach for walks.
  
  Medicate
  I will train volunteers how medicate the animals who need daily medication or other treatments.
  
  Veterinary Clinic Visits
  Volunteers may be needed to accompany me to the clinic with sick or injured animals.
  
  Gardening and Maintenance
  Volunteers will also help with gardening and small maintenance jobs if necessary.
  
  If possible, volunteers can also help with fundraising and social media.

  A single person or a couple stay in my studio apartment on the beach front. There is a large balcony with a table and chairs where you can sit and enjoy the view and sea breeze.
  
  Volunteers do not share the apartment with anyone else, but note there is only one double bed, so the accommodation may not be suitable for two people who are not willing to share a bed.
  
  There is a small kitchen in my apartment that is equipped with everything you need to cook your own simple meals. There are mini supermarkets locally and giant supermarkets in the town of Ban Phe. There are many inexpensive restaurants, Thai kitchens and food carts in the area.
  
  There is a large swimming pool, sauna and gym in the apartment building.
  
  Internet is available.
  
  If you've been on the road for a while, staying in budget accommodation or shared accommodation, my apartment is a wonderful place for you to stay and relax.
  
  My apartment and animal sanctuary must be kept clean, tidy and with positive energy at all times.

  How to get here:
  
  Ban Phe, Rayong is 200 kilometers east from Bangkok. Buses leave from Ekkamai bus station and take four hours to get to Ban Phe. It is recommended that you take a big bus because although there are more mini vans travelling to Ban Phe, these are uncomfortable for the long ride and not as safe as the big buses. I will pick you up when you arrive at the station. The Bolt taxi service is also available in the area, so another option is to get a bus to Rayong City bus station and then a Bolt taxi to the apartment where you'll stay and I'll meet you there.
  
  The area where the apartment is located:
  
  With the beach across the street from where you'll stay, you can swim in the ocean or sit in a deck chair in the sun or shade by the sea. There are restaurants and bars along the beach front, but not much nightlife. The local temple is a short push bike ride and has a market on Tuesdays and Saturdays. There are mini supermarkets, coffee shops, an Italian restaurant, an Indian restaurant, pharmacies and anything you need is easily available locally. The town of Ban Phe is six kilometers away and from there you can take a ferry to the tourist island of Kho Samet for a day trip. Local buses called sawngtaos (like a pick-up truck) go to the big city of Rayong where there are many shopping malls, markets, coffee shops and international restaurants. The whole area is safe, convenient and comfortable and volunteers really enjoy their stay in Ban Phe, Rayong.
