    Descrição

Hi, my name’s Steve. I’m a 60-something-year-old American who has lived in Far North Queensland for around 30 years.

For a long time, I had a dream of owning a farm, and I eventually made that happen. Like many good ideas, it turned out to involve a little more upkeep than I first imagined, so I’m looking to share the experience with Workawayers who would like to spend some time experiencing rural life in this part of Australia.

The property is an orchard surrounded by beautiful paddocks, freshwater and tropical Far North Queensland scenery. The orchard was operated commercially in the past, but it is not currently being run as a commercial business and we are not currently selling produce. Workawayers will not be helping with work connected to producing goods for sale. The help is around my home and property with general upkeep, maintenance and personal projects.

There is always something different happening around the place. You might help me with maintaining fences, tidying areas of the orchard, gardening, clearing, or other general property projects. Some tasks can be physical, but the idea is to work together, learn some practical skills and enjoy being outdoors.

I’ve lived in Far North Queensland for a long time and can offer a genuine look at everyday life here. I enjoy meeting people from different countries, learning about where they come from and sharing some of my own experiences of living in Australia.

I’m also a good cook, so food is a big part of life here. You can expect proper home-cooked meals and plenty of good food after spending some time outside.

The property is close to town as well as beautiful freshwater and the creek, so you can experience country life without being completely isolated.

The main idea is to give Workawayers the chance to experience a side of Far North Queensland that most visitors don’t see.

You’ll get to experience everyday life on an Australian orchard and rural property, learn some practical skills, spend time outdoors and see what living in this part of the country is really like.

I’m originally from the United States but have spent around 30 years living in Far North Queensland, so there is already a mix of cultures here. I enjoy hearing about other countries, different ways of life and the experiences people have had while travelling.

There’s no formal teaching program. It’s more about sharing everyday life, working on projects together, exchanging skills and stories, eating good food and enjoying the property and surrounding area.

You’ll be staying in a very comfortable four-bedroom, one-bathroom old Queenslander-style home with plenty of character.

The house has high ceilings and a large country kitchen with both a traditional wood-burning stove and electric cooking facilities. It’s a great kitchen for preparing and sharing meals.

There’s a wide veranda overlooking the paddocks with beautiful rural views and plenty of space to sit outside and relax.

You’ll have your own private bedroom and access to the shared living areas of the house. There’s also a fireplace and a spa, so after spending time outdoors you have a very comfortable place to come back to.

It’s an older country home, but it’s spacious, comfortable and full of character - a genuine Far North Queensland country-living experience.

Oportunidades de intercâmbio cultural e aprendizado

I’ve lived in Far North Queensland for around 30 years, so I can offer a pretty genuine introduction to life in this part of Australia.

The exchange here is very relaxed and practical. You’ll get to experience day-to-day life on an orchard, learn a bit about maintaining a rural property, help with different projects, and spend time outdoors in a part of Australia that many travellers don’t get to see properly.

I’m American originally, so there’s also a mix of cultures in the house, and I enjoy meeting people from different countries and hearing about where they come from.

Food is a big part of the experience too. I enjoy cooking and you’ll be well fed, so there’s plenty of opportunity to sit down over a good meal and swap stories at the end of the day.

It’s less about formal teaching and more about sharing everyday life, practical skills, local knowledge, good food and a genuine Far North Queensland experience.
