    Descrição

We are a non-governmental organization which helps the orphaned and homeless kids and kids from families with difficult backgrounds (neglect, alcoholism, abuse) to leave the streets and offers them a safe haven where they can live, get counseling and education. We also prepare them for adulthood, to be responsible citizens and to find their role in the society.
The project has been started in 2010 and involves 8 staff members who work with 45 children. The house where children and staff live is located in Kabale, near Kabale - Kisoro Road, before the junction to Lake Bunyonyi.
Our vision: A town where no child feels that he or she has to live on the street.
Mission: To provide an effective intervention programme to the street children of Kabale that will offer them a valuable alternative to living on the street.

Psychologists and social workers are also very welcome to work with children who have behavioural problems, abandonment issues, minor addiction problems etc.

    Acomodação

Volunteers will stay in the house where the children and staff are also staying. They will have their own room, there is a bunk bed and a single bed, but more can be added if needed. The room also has a shower and a toilet.

Travellers will be provided with three meals per day: breakfast (Ugandan tea, maize porridge, milk and sweet bread buns), lunch and dinner (local food like: rice, maize porridge, g-nut sauce, beans, different vegetables, sweet potatoes, matoke etc.). There are supermarkets in the vicinity, so volunteers can also prepare their own food.

Usually weekends are free, but volunteers are allowed to manage their time with children by themselves (after discussing it with director of the house) and take some time off when they need to.

Kabale is a town in southwestern Uganda. You can get there easily by a bus from Kampala (8 hrs) or Kigali (2 hrs; the capital of Rwanda). To go around town, you can easily walk, take a "boda boda" or a taxi.

You can take half an hour drive to the beautiful and relaxing lake Bunyonyi, where you can swim, sunbathe, hike the hills around or go canoe trekking. You can find some photos of Lake Bunyonyi islands (there are almost 30 islands) in the gallery.

The Mgahinga National Park is only a two hour drive away. You can climb one of the extinct volcanoes with a guide (Muhabura, Gahinga or Sabyinyo). You can also track gorillas or chimpanzees or go bird watching here.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is very popular for gorilla tracking, it is a one hour drive away. For safaris, you can also go to the Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is a three hour drive away.

We can connect you with some local drivers and guides to help you with transport.
