I worked here for 6 weeks and I had a great time. Sonja is extremely kind and so were the others that I worked with. The location is extremely remote so please keep that in mind, but the house you stay in is comfortable and has everything you need. There will be somewhat of a culture shock helping customers as many do not speak English and drive
… read more in from remote communities, but allow yourself and them a chance to get comfortable. It was also a plus to meet the artists who paint most of the aboriginal artwork in the art shed, and most of them are customers you see a few times a week. I highly recommend working at Redgum if you want an authentic Outback experience, a place to save money, and a chance to learn about Aboriginal culture. Staying with Sonja has been an experience, that I will never forget. Getting there on a dusty, red road, driving for hours, without seeing anything but bush is the first hint, that you are on your way to experience something extraordinary.

… read more your time together. Sonja has two businesses going on - the shop and the shed. In the shop you are working, doing all different kinds of jobs, helping to give the customers, the Aboriginals, a good shopping experience. In the art shed the aboriginal women (mostly) come to paint their paintings for sale. To watch that process is definately an experience on its own.

Sonja stayed with us for nearly 4 months. We needed someone just like her to help in our community Store and we were not disappointed. Our Store base on good customer service, it is a small aboriginal community over here and one has to learn their ways of shopping and communication. She undertook all the tasks reg. running the Store such as: till
… read more operating, opening and closing, hot food preparation, re-stocking, cleaning, customer service. She turned out to be very hard- working, punctual, well organised, learned MYOB till operating system very fast, did not like to be bored. She was also happy to help around the homestead doing some cleaning, gardening and preparing meals for other helper every other day. Pretty much anything we could ask for. We can definitely recommend her to anyone who needs help in a busy place (or less busy so she can catch up on reading) :) thank you Sonja for choosing our station and good luck in the future!

I stayed here just over four months and really enjoyed it. From the moment I arrived at the station I felt extremely welcomed. If you want to get the real Australian outback experience I can highly recommend this place, you won’t be disappointed.
