We spent an amazing week with Holger at his farm. We’d been travelling non-stop for over two months by the time we arrived and were quite burnt out, however we were nourished back to full health by amazing meals, great conversation and the peaceful farm air! From the moment we arrived Holger made us feel very welcome.
- Food: definitely one of
… read more the highlights for us with amazing veggie meals and tea! Lunch was a bit later in the afternoon so would recommend bringing some snacks with you to have while you work!
- Work: With one other volunteer we chopped up and stacked firewood for ~4hrs/day. It’s not a normal activity for the farm though as only happens a few weeks in the year, other times is gardening or DIY we think.
- Accommodation and transport: it was very easy 2 hour trip to get to the farm from Berlin via train and a weekday bus. We shared a warm general living/sleeping space with one other volunteer which was separate from the rest of the house.
- Other activities: We had late afternoon-evenings (apart from dinner time) and weekends completely to ourselves and went for nice walks and were generously lent bikes to ride to nearby towns and forest parks. Great WiFi and very silent too so good place to watch movies or read.

It was great to have Sian and Mitch at my place. It was a pleasure to host such helpful and friendly people.
They were full of energy, social, independent and they are a super team together. It was fun talking with them and to share stories.
Absolutely loved our stay at Holger's - he was a perfect and entertaining host who took us on lots of adventures and taught us new skills. Cannot recommend enough for people who enjoy being in a peaceful countryside environment.

Carolina stayed around two weeks at my place, she helped by organizing my property and gardening. She always offered a helping hand and she showed a lot of interest in my project. It was a big help to have her here and she‘s welcome any time again.

I had a good week at Holger's house. There were four other workawayers with me. Our job consisted of some works for the house, collecting fruits and vegetables and preparing meals. We had our sleeping space and our bathroom. Holger shares a lot about his experience, we always learn new things.

Vielen Dank für die lustigen und lehrreichen drei Wochen. Mittlerweile weiß ich etwas über Steine, Steine und Dachboxen. Dort können Sie sehen, welche Arbeiten in einem solchen Haus/Hof anfallen. Rei is a great helper with a big heart. She knows how to adapt herself to the daily process and she can work independently very well. Although the work in the forest was sometimes demanding, she didn‘t give up. She is a nice and sociable person. We wish you all the best and save travel!

Holger and Quirine are really fun people to be with, i have learnt a lot from Holger's travel stories and also about this Pechule village which he grew up in, during the DDR, so it is very interesting and if you wanna know about it, you have to come visit him! thanks again for letting me share a small part of your life and hope to visit again

Claudia is a very friendly and really open minded girl and stayed around two weeks at my place. She helped outside on the farm and inside the house as well. Ronja was a nice, laid back girl. It was very easy to communicate with her and working with her was good as well. She helped with the garden (preparing the potatoes) and we went in the forest to collect firewood. I would recommend her to another place for sure!

I stayed with Holger a short one and a half weeks. It was short but really nice time. Holger is a great host and very kind person, and a great conversationalist. I heard some very interesting stories over dinner and breakfast (and also over delicious afternoon cakes :)) about life in east Germany and also about his traveling around the world.

Holger is a very gifted handyman and has loads of knowledge to spear in mechanics, working with wood and so on, but you can also learn how to pick mushrooms if you want! The work was not hard at all and varied a lot which was great- from making the wood ceiling, to picking mushrooms and fruits from the trees in the house, to painting.. So it's definitely a great place to learn some new skills. Sometimes I worked alone and sometimes with Holger which was nice and pleasant but in any case, he explains well what is needed to be done.

I spent almost 4 great weeks with Holger and had a fantastic time! Holger is a very nice and accommodating person with a cheerful nature. I was greeted with a warm welcome that made me feel at home immediately with good conversations about history, his own travel experiences and a lot more. The place and surroundings are wonderful especially for people who love nature and hiking as well as trips for example to Potsdam or Berlin. The work I did was mostly outside and had to do with wood: I helped felling trees at Holger‘'s forest, chopped the wood and piled it. We also started to restore old factory-windows for his wintergarden, „grubbern“ the field and planted potatoes afterwards. I will never forget our brunches and the Malzkaffee with cake in the afternoon. I can definitely recommend Holger and his place to every workawayer - thanks for everything and all the best for you!

Eva stayed for around a month at my place. She is a very experienced helper with a lot of stamina. She can work independently very well and is open for every work, as well the hard work. She also helped us a lot with organizing. She is a very nice, open minded person. Thanks for everything!

An amazing man with some incredible stories to tell. Holger welcomes you into his home like a family member, with daily coffee and cake it's certainly not a hardship here. Holger taught me and the other helpers how to pick mushrooms and other helpful handyman tips during our stay. Would definitely recommend Holger to any workawayer!
