İt was my first workaway experience and I felt very lucky because I met this lovely couple. Una is a nice and kind woman. Phil is a critical thinker and a man of principle. The works they gave me were not that hard.

Philip John was with us for a very short (3.5 days) time but we did a lot in that time and he was a great help. He is a very competent and intelligent young man and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending him to any other host. Una and I wish him the very best in his travels . We got one of the better experiences as volunteers at Phil & Una eco project. We stayed 2 conscious and pleasant weeks. Phil & Una are a wonderful couple, we felt very welcome all the time.
We helped in the woodland from the morning until afternoon with coffee break and lunch plus supper at night. The food was so delicious, Phil & Una know how to
… read more cook very well with fresh vegetables and balanced vegan and gluten free food.
The communication was very good all the time, Phil was always bringing thoughtful topics and he knows about permaculture very well.
The cabin into the woodland is very cosy, well equipped with chimney (really necessary when we got the last snow from the previous winter) gas cooker, books and 2 comfortable bunk beds.
We enjoyed a lot working outdoors and also we could go cycling in our days off to the closest villages around the area. Definitely Sallas will be in the chest of our good memories.
Phil & Una are so nice that they offered drive us to Limoges in our last day because our night bus.

I would recommend Celine to anyone- she is open-minded, very capable and adaptable to many tasks. Celine helped us over 9 days , was great company and accomplished many jobs that otherwise would have remained undone. Many tahnksn again Celine and you are welcome to come and see us anytime

I spent 9 wonderful days in Sallas. Enjoyed every moments. Una was away at that time so it was just me and Phil. The work was not hard. It was mostly clearing beds, getting rid of brambles... … read more connected with nature and with myself. Plus the tea break with the addictives flapjacks where really nice! Also I was working the morning so I had all my afternoons (and the days off) to visit the cities around by bike, read under the sun, chill in the comfy cabin in the middle of the woods... And Phil nicely invited me to come with him to Saint Junien and to his yoga class. In Sallas you cultivate the land, but also the mind. I learned a lot about gardening with Phil, but we also had some uplifting conversations about our society.

The cabin I stayed in was such a nice treat with a fireplace in, a real dream place. Only downside was the compost toilet wasn’t made yet so needed to walk 5 mins to the house.
Word of warning is you don’t get good signal or really any 3G apart from a couple of spots, and the WiFi is very weak & temperamental. But that’s not why we do this stuff anyway really is it!?
Finally I am vegan and Phil prepared constant delightful meals for me so that was such a nice suprise to have.

We had an excellent time in the little hamlet of Sallas helping Phil and Una to carry on with the tasks of their farm.
In terms of organisation Phil had everything sorted, he knew in advance what had to be done, gave us clear instructions and let us work in autonomy every time and working times were always respected.
Work consisted mainly in
… read more outdoors higly rewarding (at least for us) physical tasks such as opening a path, choping fire wood, moving manure, planting crops among other things and some indoors masonry work that was interesting as well.
Another thing that we liked a lot is that in their place we could feel disconected from the outside world (even if we were not too far from some towns) and just submerged ourselves in our little routine of working, eating (really good healthy food), reading by the fire in the timber cabin and just relaxing around the beautiful nature.
Phil and Una were caring and respecful hosts, they cooked delicious food for us every day and shared their thoughts and feelings about many subjects.
Phil knows a lot about permaculture and it's impresive what he has achieved in his little land without a lot of means, spending time with him and experiencing his way of working could be really helpful for anyone interested on learning how to live of the land and achieve a certain autonomy from comsuption society... and all this having a great fun while doing it!
We come back home happy of meeting them and inspired by their way of life, if we ever have a garden we hope it will look like Phil's and Una's.
Thanks a lot for these two weeks!... and thanks a lot for introducing us to the wonder of the flapjacks! (we are already enjoying this recipe).

I loved my stay with Phil and Una – this is a couple who are truly walking their talk, living their life of voluntary simplicity with deep commitment. I learned lots at their place in Sallas, including how to use a simple tool, a bunyip, to trace out contours in preparation for installing drainage ditches, and for creating a level area for a
… read more terrace. This is a great place to learn, whether you are interested in permaculture, or building your own cabin or composting toilet using simple construction methods. . Phil is a patient and generous teacher and as the King of Composting, he can show you recycling methods, how to build cool things out of pallets, and all sorts of interesting mounding and sheet-mulching techniques. I loved staying in Phil and Una's cozy home-built cabin, lots of which was constructed with recycled pallets, and in the evening, I enjoyed many inspiring and heartfelt conversations with Phil, Una and the wwoofer, lovely Marie. And on my days off, it was a special treat to visit St. Junien, a small but lively town with a lot of character.
Phil and Una are creating an environment that is full of sharing and support. They are role models for how to treat the earth gently, live mindfully and harmoniously with nature and the human community.
