Until that night, I thought I was a hand football master, but I had nothing to say in front of Eric. It was fun in the garden and in the greenhouse as well and I didn't notice time passing while I was working. Overall, I learned a lot from them about professional gardening . … read more anfangen! Vielleicht damit: Brigitte ist aus ganzem Herzen hilfsbereit, sie schaut nicht danach, was sie gerne arbeiten würde sondern ihre Blickrichtung ist: wo kann ich helfen, was gibt es zu tun? Damit war sie uns eine wundervolle Unterstuetzung und echte Hilfe.
Brigitte ist zierlich aber packt an wie eine Bärin, sie zieht sich manchmal zurück und arbeitet doch magischerweise für 2 , sie ist wirklich gruendlich und denkt nach der Arbeit noch drüber nach wie man es NOCH besser machen könnte. Sie denkt total mit , ich fand es toll , dass sie nicht einfach ihre vereinbarten Stunden abarbeitet, sondern wir ein wirklich tolles Team waren mit viel Spass und Freude, so als waere unser Haus auch ihr zuhause, das gehegt und gepflegt werden will .Auch fand ich es toll, wie Brigitte die kleinen Details sieht und liebt, die unser Garten so verschwenderisch Preis gibt. Zum grossen glück konnten wir bei Ihrem Abschied schon vereinbaren wann sie wiederkommt. ..Bald!!!

Der Garten ist ein Traum von Farben und Gerüchen, von wunderschön gestalteten Ecken, prallen Beeten voll mit Gemüse, Salat, Beeren, einem Gewächshaus - und alles ist mit so viel Liebe gestaltet. Ich war da tätig und im Haus, beides hat mir grosse Freude gemacht. Wir haben immer wieder gemeinsam abgesprochen, was gemacht werden sollte und wer was übernehmen will. Das habe ich sehr geschätzt. Nikola und Eric sind mir mit grosser Wertschätzung begegnet, haben ihr grosses Wissen ums Gärtnern mit mir geteilt, das war toll für mich. Wir haben gemeinsam gearbeitet und auch jede/r für sich. Und immer war Zeit für Begegnung, für Austausch. Vor dem Essen in den Garten zu gehen, zu schauen, was reif ist zum Ernten, das dann holen und zubereiten, wie schön und einmalig! Ich hatte ein Zimmer mit eigenem Bad, das habe ich sehr geschätzt und ein Fahrrad zur Verfügung, mit dem ich die Umgebung erkunden konnte. Ich kann gar nicht genug sagen, wie bereichernd und inspirierend und nährend die Tage mit Nikola und Eric waren. Ich sage danke, von Herzen, euch beiden, Nikola und Eric.

Before arriving, Florence kept us well informed ( without asking too many questions as some workawayers do) about the status of her trip and her
… read more arrival. The moment she entered we ( my partner Eric and I) felt immedialtly comfortable having her around. Florence is naturally friendly and ALWAYS offering help in the kitchen or with other stuff which needs to be done. What I also very much liked about Florence is that she is genuinly interested in our life, views, perpectives, work and projects but she is never too much, meaning that every single conversation with Florence was a worthy exchange and always so intersting! When it came to work: she totally deserves the medal for being the best workawayer we ever had. WHy? First of all she would see and understand what needs to be done in a garden, secondly she totally enjoyed the work and the interaction with the plants, and thirdly she worked along her own but flexible time management which was usullay more than we had agreed to. Also she would remove tools and materials after finishing the daily job and she would organise our chaos in a better way. Another thing woth mentioning is that Florence spreads happiness, she likes to laugh including laughing about herself without being silly or superficial. She gave me vaulable ideas about our business and how to market ourself better. Sharing meals in the evening was always joyful , as if a good friend came to visit. We were both truly sad when she left and we felt sorry for us and the volunteers to come next...
It was a great experience to host Florence , we wish she would grant us with another stay!!!

This was my first foreign Workaway and I absolutely loved it. My first impression was walking from the little train station in the charming old town of Tonning through the cobbled streets and arriving at the front of the house, the front door was open, I could hear music, and as I walked in Nikola and Eric greeted me warmly and offered me an
… read more aperitif. We sat down and chatted, shared stories and laughed and I felt immediately at home. I stayed 8 days (and would have happily stayed longer) and during that time we enjoyed many meals together, often with fruit, vegetables and herbs just harvested from the garden. Erika and Eric and enthusiastic and gifted cooks and every meal was a treat and a time to gather around the table and chat about our day, dreams, life. I was tasked with a variety of jobs, from painting a bed, to weeding (lots), watering, repotting seedlings in the cute greenhouse, harvesting and shelling lots and lots of peas, and generally taking care of parts of the garden. There are always lots of projects going on and no two days are alike. I enjoyed the freedom to choose when to work and autonomy in how I worked but at the same time always the support if/when I needed it. I found both Nikola and Eric easy going and there was a relaxed atmosphere which offered me a chance to disconnect, and just enjoy being in nature and working with the earth. During my time off I could wonder around the little town or beyond, there was also a bike on offer, and there's the beautiful St Peter Ording beach a short train ride away. I'd definitely like to go back one day!Comentário

… read more really liked that he would ask precise questions instead of pretending that all was understood with a possible desastrous outcome (we had that experience before)... So one strong point with Gero is clear communication. The highlight was when he prepared swabian KAESESPÄTZLE, you must definetly ask him to cook that dish for you: You will not regret! It was also pleasant to have Gero around after working hours, just to share about life and travelling. Gero, we wish you all the best on your way and you will be always welcome back to Tönning!

I stayed at Nikola and Erics place in October 2022 for 2 weeks. It was a great experience which I can recommend. My duties were mainly gardenwork, since they have a big and nice garden. The garden is very diversified so there are a lot of challenges waiting for you to be done. One other dutiy you might do is walking the dog, which is no problem,

You can use your free days to visit places like Husum, Sylt oder St. Peter Ording.

I sent a last minute request to Nikola and Eric for a one week stay and they got back to me super fast and welcomed me to their home. Upon my arrival, Eric came and picked me up and showed me around the house and the super big garden they have. I was also surprised by their amazing dogo Boots who is super friendly and would follow you everywhere
… read more you go. Nikola joined us later that day and immediately showered me with her dark humor which I love so much! In terms of help, I did some gardening ( weeding and watering) and some house chores. I really enjoyed working in the garden as the weather was really great and I could listen to my audio book, reflect on my life, and had Boots' accompany. They also made super tasty dinner every night and I always look forward to sit down and have dinner with them. Also we made our dinner time our French practice session so we could have practice together! They also have freinds coming over and I was always invited to be part of their activity. One thing I really appreciate is that they always checked in with me to see if I could understand their German conversation. And if I couldn't they would stop and explain it in English for me. Because of this, I never felt left out and always felt that I am involved. I am super grateful for their hospitality and kindness. If you're looking for activity-packed days and endless inspiration, look no further. Nikola and Eric are up there with the most faceted, engaged people i've ever met and I absolutely loved my stay with them. My first day was extremely relaxed with Nikola showing me around, introducing me to the wonderful Nadine - another Workaway who was there at
… read more the same time- and letting me take in my surroundings in my own time before the action kicked off, although, of course, we did play a mandatory board game on my first evening. After that I knew what kind of a situation I was getting myself into..! Eric once again reigned victorious and I was chuffed to bits with my second place.
In terms of what to expect day to day: LOTS of practical tasks (which I loved.) You're mostly in the garden helping either Nikola with her planting/ digging / weeding (and reaping the rewards of bountiful garden knowledge!) or juggling a hundred different incredible action-packed projects from Eric: while I was there we managed to demolish/ drag out a gigantic guinea pig house, dig up old flower beds and rebuild the compost compartments outside in one morning-early afternoon..!
Once you've done your 4- 5 hours you're rewarded with great food (bought from a lovely market around the corner or from the snazzy REWE - Nikola's favourite ;) ). They're very relaxed and take every day as it comes which is just how it should be. If you fancy cooking they're more than happy for you to do so. (They've got some great recipe books, so i'd HIGHLY recommend looking through some of those if you're a keen chef or like trying new things in the kitchen.)
I love how quickly and efficiently things get done around here. Eric and Nicola always summon up the energy to switch tasks and seem to get everything done with both ease and enthusiasm.
I am extremely grateful for Nikola and Eric for hosting me and for taking the time to share their insights on their various projects. There is a lot to learn here, and a lot of fun to be had in the meantime. Good conversation and interesting topics are pretty abundant here.
Lastly, they have an INCREDIBLY sweet dog named Boots, and to be honest one of the main jobs here is giving him all the love and attention he deserves.

During his stay , we had unexpected,additional projects and "emergencies" where we needed help and he was always willing and ready to help. he also cooked for us a fantastic meal. But most of all we just loved his passion for playing games and the way we laughed togehter so much. As a host you will be blessed to have him stay with you.

… read more two really like to play board games and it is so much fun! Try to win against Eric in anything.. Good LUCK. And it´s very cozy playing next to a chimney in the living room (with no TV btw. - but they got a nice big one if needed :-p)
And then there is Butch - never have i seen a dog who wants to get so much cuddled. He´s just adorable.U can take him for walks in and around little Tönning, which is a little beautiful village and the big river just gives u the feeling of being at the sea. The sea is not far away and one day Niko and Eric took me with Butch to the sea and it was sooo good!
The work was enjoyable and absolutly doable. I did some easy renovating stuff and helped as a second hand. There is always something to do and it was a lof fun working with Eric and Julian.

First of all, I would like to thank Eric and Nikola very much for this wonderful time. Although I only spent one week in Toenning, it felt like a second home. I was welcomed very lovingly and had my own apartment with a large room, private bathroom and even a small kitchen, which I only used to make tea. I worked mainly in the garden.

We worked together and went on a trip to the beach and it felt like we knew each other for a long time.
The four of us sat in front of the fireplace in the evening and played board games and it was a very nice atmosphere. During my whole stay I had enough time for myself but also enough time with the others. Everyone was able to arrange everything the way they wanted and that was ok. Something I appreciated very much.
