I spent two weeks with Giorgio, Cecca, Zoe and Neve(dog), Gilda, Tina and Lou (cats) and a couple of chickens last May. I had the most amazing time and I felt so welcomed!
The working hours and tasks were flexible so depending on the weather I revarnished the shed and the caravan patio, various garden jobs that mainly consisted of cutting things
… read more back or (much to my delight) worked in Giorgio's pottery studio expanding the 'mushroom' collection for the fence posts.
Giorgio also kindly let me try out throwing on the wheel and doing some handbuilding. He gave me lots of helpful tricks and insights. I felt myself falling in love with the craft and having an expert there willing to answer all my questions was truly a gift. I also got to watch the Raku firing process, which was fascinating. And generously I was allowed to keep the pieces I made.
As the weather wasn't great yet, there weren't any guests there yet so I got to stay in the caravan in the field which was a dream come true. The surrounding nature is beautiful and at night all you can hear are the crickets. The place is very tranquil (as long as there are no motorbikes tearing down the road) and there are nice walks you can do. The animals are also all very cute and friendly.
We shared lunch together which was always a treat as they are great cooks and I got to enjoy a lot of delicious vegetarian Italian meals! Although I didn't learn much Italian (I didn't try very hard to be fair), the communication was great and I learned a lot about Italian culture, how climate change has affected the area they live in and so much more.
I can highly recommend doing workaway with them. They are such kind and generous people and definitely helped me more than I was able to help them.
Thank you very much! 🫶🏼

We were very happy to meet and host Jana and Patrick, they are a close-knit and always smiling couple. They were very willing to help us and understand the work to be done and how to do it best; they are pleasant, polite and curious about learning new things.

We stayed one weeks with Giorgio and Cecca. During that time we felt very very welcomed. The whole family is very friendly and super great.
We helped around the house and garden with different things (preparing wood for winter, building a wood shelter, watering, etc.). The work was really enjoyable and did not feel like work at all, more like

We had lunch together each day, Giogrio, Cecca and Zoe (their daughter) are amazing cooks. We had the pleasure of enjoying a lot of Italian meal during the week. And all of them plant based which was amazing. For breakfast and dinner we could use the garden kitchen and were supplied with ingredients for that. Amazing vegetables, tasty bread, good coffee,... just to mention a few.
We also had pizza one night which they prepared in the outdoor wood oven. Yummy 😋
Giogrio also let me use his ceramic studio and gave me really nice tips and ideas. I enjoyed it very very much. Griogrio, thank you.
Giorgio and Cecca are very easy to work with and can explain very good. They are just really nice people. Due to a mistake on my end, we arrived one day later. I felt so bad and sorry, but both were nice and did accept my apologies.
I would highly recommend to do workaway with them. You can easily feel welcomed and it is very much enjoyable.
Thank you very much. ☺️👍Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

I stayed with Giorgio and Cecca for about two weeks at the end of July and I had a lovely time! They are a very sweet family, generous and clearly hardworking. We share a lot of the same values and talked about the world we live in, especially as we navigate climate change. It's clear how hard they try to make guests feel welcome, special, and
… read more cared for, and notably their place is a very safe place for solo women/queer folks traveling. Truly hospitable folks!
They were patient with the fact that after learning French and Spanish not much Italian was sticking in my head, but I wish I could've retained more! Regardless, they spoke English and we had good communication anyway (minus a few misunderstandings on my end about how/when to complete some tasks, but those were minor and didn't affect the overall experience)
The tasks I completed were weeding/removing protective shields/ watering the trees the last workwayer mentioned, clearing away some thorny bushes, finishing up a section of fence around the property, moving unneeded items from the property, made ceramic cylinders for a project for Giorgio, cleaned out the chicken coop, cleaning the guest/visitors bathroom, guest cabin, and community kitchen. I was able to complete most of these despite some angry wasps. They showed concern for me working in the heat and made it clear that the hours to complete tasks were flexible, so that was thoughtful of them. In the end I worked 10/14 days for about 5 hours a day as expected.
For travel to them I took the train from Milan to Voghera and the bus from Voghera to Varzi. You can buy a bus ticket on the bus in coins, online on an app called Autoguidovie, or at a tobacco shop. It was fairly easy and the only challenge was when my cellphone didn't work upon arrival, so prepare to get off at the main bus stop in Varzi (you'll know because it's by a park/garden, which is I think the 3rd stop in Varzi, I got off around the 2nd stop accidentally)
For food, Giorgio brought me to a grocery store when he picked me up from the bus stop to purchase some groceries for the first week and a plan to get local produce box on Friday from the market/pick up more groceries as needed. My first time shopping for food in Italy so I didn't know where everything was in the store so probably got some unnecessarily expensive items haha but delicious all the same. He gave me around 50€ as this was easier than navigating everyone's different dietary restrictions, so I ended up buying about 80€ worth of food and covering the difference but I bought enough to last the full 2 weeks. The plan was that we have lunch together but do most dinners on my own. As it were, I was usually working while the other guests or Giorgio and Cecca ended up making most of the lunches and dinners and generously shared with me, while I shared the ingredients and supplies I had picked up. I feel lucky to have been fed so well by so many, including a couple pizzas nights and watching Giorgio make a classic delicious risotto, among many other pasta dishes. Thank you for feeding me so well!
Accommodations for me were a tent with a mattress in it and with a shared bathroom with the guests on the property. I was there during some really hot days so the tent was cozy and in fact a bit too hot to sleep in too late, so good motivation to get outside right in the morning! The shared bathroom is a newly built cabin with two toilets and 1 shower, which were cleaned daily either by myself or Cecca. I never had problems with needing the shower when someone else was using it, and to be honest, I showered/rinsed off multiple times in the many waterfalls around the property so it worked out well! And then the shared kitchen as well. Very peaceful and serene environment, with two hammocks to rest in and some incredible stargazing!
The guests were all very sweet and I got to know each of them well for the times that they were there. It was nice to hang out with so many kind and determined women and I had many great conversations in English, Spanish, French, and Italian (though through a translator app on that one).
My passion is ceramics so I was happy I got to spend a little time in the studio and Giorgio generously let me keep the pieces I made and fired for me.
Overall I had a really lovely time! I would definitely come back if they are open to it, I think staying longer than 2 weeks would give me the chance to do even a bit more for them, like cleaning the guest cabins without help to match Cecca's former hospitality industry standards, so that they could get a true relief with me joining instead of spending time having to teach me how they like things done. I find that is the same with any workaway I stay at for less than 3 weeks, but even still I hope that I was able to help out in ways that felt reciprocal for the care and hospitality they offered me.
AND midway through my time with them they adopted some young stray kittens that I spent every possible free moment with and that I hope are growing up well :) What a special treat, the young ones have a great home and land to grow on with a very sweet big dog/older sister and two other sweet cats on the property.
Anyway, big love to you Giorgio and Cecca and family! Thank you for sharing your home with me. I hope many blessings come your way and that I'll see you again someday <3Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

I spent two weeks with Cecca, Giorgio, Zoe and Neve and enjoyed it a lot. We were working on a project to plant 100 trees, different species beneficial for bees. Also I was helping with the firewood, making tiles from clay, some sanding and other small tasks around the house. The communication was good, the working hours flexible. I was mostly

There is always room to take time for yourself, in winter it was a very peaceful and quiet place. Usually we shared lunch and dinner together and I got to learn some Italian. I felt part of the family very quickly and look forward to come back in spring to explore more of the surroundings and the waterfalls!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.
