I had an amazing month long experience with Lara and Dirk. Their family is ridiculously kind and fun and I wish I could have spent more time with them. The home is nestled in between hills and thick forests that made for really cool hikes. I found the work was intensive however they gave me a lot of freedom on what I wanted to do, a lot of wood
… read more cutting and cleaning up around the outside of the home. Id also like to add that they were verry flexible with the schedule and tasks. I was lucky enough to tag along with Lara on some of her work projects which was a really cool experience, meeting people in the wine industry and even getting a role in a commercial for one of their clients. Overall, the amazing kindness and open hearts of this family are what really make this place special, there wasn't a day that went by that made me think otherwise, and I'm so happy that I had the chance to be apart of it. I'm looking forward to when I get the chance to come back and visit for another game of skyjo!
Thank you Lara, Dirk, Heike, and the kids for accepting me into your home, much love to you all!

They were my fourth host family in Germany and became my favorite. While all the families (except one) were very kind, respectful, and friendly—whom I also liked a lot—this particular family made me feel most at home. With them, it felt like we were living together as friends or even as a family.
The WORK was challenging—not easy, not moderate, but not excessively hard either. As someone who is very sporty, I found it indeed tiring. Primarily, the tasks involved clearing the area where the horses lived from their waste and soiled straw/hay, along with some construction work. These tasks were consistently outdoors and physically demanding.
Heike, Lara, and Dirk were all warm-hearted and ensured we had everything we needed. The food they prepared was delicious, and our conversations with them was very enjoying. The children and visiting guests were also very friendly, which made the social aspect of this workaway experience more enjoyable.
Reflecting on my fourth family experience, I've noticed that Germans tend to communicate more directly than The People in Turkey, this DIRECTNESS can sometimes be understood as rude But it was never mean. Adjusting to this directness was occasionally challenging for me (though no one said anything mean or disrespectful). Nevertheless, they were cautious, fair, and conveyed necessary information about the house and work. And the MOST IMPORTANT; WE SOLVED EVERYTHING BY TALKING :) While I've encountered rude instances with another host family, overall, being direct without being disrespectful is an crucial social skill. I personally improved my communication skills thanks to the directness of German people.
I adored the DOGS; they were adorable, friendly, and playful. I miss them dearly.
The ROOM and HOUSE were generally fine, except for occasional visits from mice if there was food around. The usage of the bathroom in winter had some challenges, especially as the house where Heike and we lived lacked warm water for showers. We had to use the bath in the other house where Lara, Dirk, and Rosa lived. However, this arrangement was manageable for me, as the other house was just a minute away, with a brief 5-second outdoor experience. It's essential ofcourse to maintain cleanliness and dryness in the bathrooms and toilets.
The LOCATION is very rural, but there's a bus station within a 10-12 minute walking distance. From there, it takes about 20 minutes to reach Grünstadt by bus.
On weekdays, we traveled to Heidelberg, which took around 2-2.5 hours from home."
All the best (Nureddin)

They were my first host family and I say it was a very different experience as someone who had not lived in a farmlike environment. They have 4 horses Anton,Steller,Cindyand Snegler.. they have 3 dogs and a huge heart.. :)
And overall a very warm,loving,welcoming familyy :)
I felt like I was a part of their family, Heike, Lara and Dirk were very welcoming and sincere people that was very nice.We had to also go to our German course at Heidelberg University which was a bit of a challenge every weekday. But despite it being a very challenging one month for me it was a really fullfilling experience.I got to learn many things about horses and also started forming bonds with them even tho I was afraid of them at first :)
The Horses are indeed very interesting and unique animals
And also the bond and connection Lara has with the horses was very unique.. It was intresting to witness that
The challenges I want to share are
1)The exchange work that you are expected to do may be challenging if you are not used to a bit of heavy carrying work. You are expected to clean the horse waste which is not too difficult but if you have back pain or so it can be challenging.
Also there may be more carrying stuff which also requires a healthy back and movement ability so be aware of that.Howeverrr, the projects or work thats wanted may also change so communicate openly :)
2)The second part is that the German directness can be seen as rude to some but in fact it is a direct and transparent way to communicate I would not say rude, but it could be a challenge if you are used to a very people pleasing and only very kind language. And Also its important to communicate the important things and plan together how you want to manage your weekly work so that everyone in the house can make plans for their day and week accordingly.Soo.. talking openly and having an active communication with the people in the house are crucial.. :)
And rest assured you will find them to be the nicest people in the world.. 😊💙
3)the mice issue, well I was scared at first but there are mice around but as long as you dont keep food in the open it wont be a problem.Thats a crazy natural experience to see as well :) You can ask any question you have on your mind with them about these issues.
And overall,
Their life philosophy is one that acts with kindness and love to humans, animals and the nature.. their project is to transform their house into a permaculture ecosystem is exicing I hope to help in however I can with their amazing goal :)
And I feel as if I have another family and an amazing friendship with them even though I just stayed for 1 month.
We also got to play table games with the family and children altogether which was also very fun.
The conversations I had with Heike,Dirk and Lara were great. So many different life stories we all have and lots to learn from each other.. :)
I wish we could have stayed more :,) Miss them already.
I want to thank each of them for their warm welcoming huge hearts :)
I felt like home and learned a lot of things.
Hope to see each other around soon!
Much love and greetings to the Große Glücklicche Familie
