Located in a small village called Valbom (São Pedro), in the North of Portugal, 25 minutes from Braga, and 1 hour from Porto, our region is known for its culture, authentic and welcoming people, great food and preserved nature.
Old house renovated in 1956 and designed by Viana de Lima a famous Portuguese modernist Architect, it was unused for 30 years and we started to rehabilitate it a year ago. Mountains and river in the background, goats and flourishing garden, our family house is needing some refreshing time. We want to develop this space in orders to host different projects: rural tourism, artistic workshops, permaculture, well-being retreats…
My name is Alexandra França, I'm portuguese with 3 grown-up children. I have a lot of ideas for the house that I would like to see flourishing, and I need help to organise them and to make them happen I have experience in different fields like nature, alternative medicine, artcraft, cuisine which I would love to share as well as my taste for the “good” life.

It's the ideal opportunity for those who want to travel around North of Portugal, meet its countryside and its famous gastronomy. You can learn the Minho local customs, travel around Peneda Gerês Natural Park (around 20km) and visit some cities in Spain (Ourense around 100km).

At the moment, the priority is about creating a sustainable garden and improving the conditions/facilities of the house and garden.
Besides general help in the house with daily tasks, you can find some projects that we want to implement:
1 - Organic garden;
2 - Transform the basement in a fantastic workshop and gym place;
3 - We've around 100 citrus, some chestnut and some walnut trees. So we need help to pick, transform the fruit and make good products to add value to the fruit (kitchen lovers are welcome);
4 - Transform a water tank into a biological pool and make the surrounding area very welcoming (DIY lovers, you are very welcome!);
5 - We also have some forest, mostly eucalyptus, that we would like to cut down and reforest with native species like oak trees. We want to use the cut trees to build some equipment (table and garden decor), houses/shelter for the farm animals and (my big dream) a tree house (DIY lovers and woodworkers, come on!!);
6 - Whitewash the house and the garage;
7 - Paint the doors and windows;
8 - Transform the terrace and the basement surrounding in chillout areas.
We also have very tasks for volunteers with experience in construction.

The house has 1 suite and 4 bedrooms (3 of which will be available for Workawayers), 1 full bathroom, 2 big living/dinning room and 1 big kitchen.
You can enjoy all the common areas of the house and the garden.
We also have Internet that you can use at your own will.

Besides the Peneda Gerês Natural Park, you also have, from may to october, a thermal spring/therapeutic spa in a neighbor village. During the summer (between June and September) you can go to a beautiful river beach 15min walking.
