    Descrição

Hi! We’re Olivia and Reuben, a family of four living in beautiful East Auckland with our two daughters, aged 3 and 8. We’re currently looking for a longer-term Workawayer who genuinely enjoys being around children and would be happy becoming part of the rhythm of our busy family life.

Our home sits on a large tropical property with lush gardens, an orchard, swimming pool, spa and plenty of native birdlife—you’ll regularly spot tūī, kererū and fantails, and hear ruru (morepork) at night.

    What we’re looking for:

Our needs have changed a little, and at the moment the biggest help for our family would be having another capable, reliable adult around who is **confident and genuinely good with children**.

Both of us work around an hour away from home, and Olivia is gradually returning to work following spinal surgery last year. Managing work, two young children, a large property and everyday family life can be a lot, so we’d love to find someone who can help take some of the pressure off.

**Mornings are particularly important.** Our girls usually wake between 6–7am, so this would suit someone who is naturally comfortable with early starts. We would need help getting them through their morning routine and then transporting our 3-year-old to daycare and our 8-year-old to school.

We’d also need help with **school pick-up for our 8-year-old in the afternoon**, so having someone who is confident driving and able to legally drive in New Zealand is very important.

Between those times, there is plenty of flexibility in how the day is organised. Help could include:

    * Gardening and outdoor property maintenance
    * Weeding, pruning, planting and mulching
    * General tidying and housework
    * Laundry and helping keep on top of the everyday family mess!
    * Preparing or helping prepare family meals
    * School pick-up and spending some time with our 8-year-old afterwards
    * Playing, reading or doing activities with the girls
    * Pressure washing, painting and other property projects

    Our garden 🌿

Our garden is still a really important part of the exchange. We have a large tropical-style property and orchard, and there is always something that needs doing.

We’d particularly love someone who enjoys gardening, doesn't mind getting their hands dirty and is happy to notice what needs doing rather than always waiting to be given the next job. Gardening experience would be wonderful, but initiative, care and a willingness to learn matter just as much.

There are lots of different projects, from everyday weeding and garden maintenance through to pruning, mulching, planting, pressure washing, painting and improving different areas of the property.

    Accommodation:

We want to be completely upfront about this because our setup is a little unusual.

We have a separate guest area in our home which we also operate as an bnb. When it isn’t booked, this is where you would stay and you’d have much more of your own space.

However, the bnb is often booked over weekends. My mum also stays with us every second week from Monday to Thursday. During times when the guest accommodation isn’t available, our second lounge/playroom converts into your bedroom.

The girls use this room during the day, but once they’re in bed it becomes your space for the evening/night. You would therefore need to be genuinely flexible and comfortable moving between the bnb accommodation and the lounge/playroom depending on our bookings and family arrangements.

It’s probably not the right setup for someone who needs a completely private bedroom that remains theirs throughout their stay. But it could work really well for someone relaxed and adaptable who enjoys living as part of a family and is looking for a longer-term Auckland base.

    Who would suit us best?

More than anything, we’re looking for the **right person** rather than a particular set of qualifications.

We’d love someone who is warm, trustworthy and confident with young children; a safe and confident driver; comfortable with early mornings; practical and willing to help around the house; happy to cook or help with meals; willing to get stuck into the garden; and able to use their initiative.

Because you’d be helping with our children and driving them to school/daycare, reliability and maturity are particularly important to us.

Our girls are very much part of our lives, so we’d love someone who actually **likes spending time with children**, rather than someone who is simply willing to tolerate childcare as part of the exchange!

In return, we hope you’ll become part of our family while you’re here. We love getting to know our Workawayers, sharing meals, showing them some Kiwi experiences and learning about where they come from too.

For the right person, we’d love this to be more than just a short Workaway stop. We’re hoping to find someone who can settle into our family routine for a longer period and become an extra pair of hands—and a familiar, trusted face for our girls.

If you’re an early riser, love kids, don’t mind a bit of family chaos, enjoy gardening and would like to experience everyday family life in a tropical corner of Auckland, we’d love to hear from you. ❤️

Oportunidades de intercâmbio cultural e aprendizado

We genuinely love meeting people from different parts of the world, and one of our favourite things about Workaway is the friendships and cultural exchange that come with sharing our home.

Because we’re hoping to find someone who can stay with us for a little longer, we’d love you to become part of the everyday rhythm of our family rather than simply feeling like a guest. You’ll always be welcome to join us for family meals, outings, trips to local beaches and coastal walks, time by the pool, or just relaxing and chatting together at the end of the day.

We love sharing everyday Kiwi life and introducing our Workawayers to some of our favourite New Zealand foods, places and traditions. In return, we really enjoy learning about your home, culture, language and traditions—and we’re always particularly enthusiastic when someone wants to introduce us to a favourite meal from their country!

At the same time, we completely understand that you’ll want your own space, friendships and adventures while you’re here. We want you to have plenty of opportunity to explore Auckland and New Zealand and make the experience your own.

Our hope is that this feels less like simply exchanging a few hours of help for accommodation and more like temporarily becoming an extra member of our slightly busy, sometimes chaotic, but very welcoming family. We’d love you to leave with great memories of New Zealand—and hopefully a Kiwi family you’ll want to keep in touch with afterwards.

Our biggest need is having an extra pair of hands to help keep our busy family life and large tropical property running smoothly. The help is varied, so it’s a great fit for someone who enjoys a mixture of children, home life and getting outdoors rather than doing the same thing every day.

**Helping with the girls will be an important part of the exchange.** On workdays, we’ll all work together in the mornings to get our 3- and 8-year-old ready for the day, and we’ll need you to help with transporting them to daycare and school. We’ll also need help with our 8-year-old’s school pick-up in the afternoon. At other times, it might simply be playing a game, doing some crafts, reading together or keeping an eye on the girls while we get something else done.

We’d also really appreciate help with the everyday jobs that make family life easier—things like preparing or helping with dinner, tidying, laundry, light housework and generally noticing where an extra pair of hands would be useful.

**Our garden and property are also a big priority for us.** We have a large tropical garden and orchard that need plenty of love, with jobs including weeding, pruning, mulching, planting, general garden maintenance, painting, pressure washing and tackling different outdoor projects. We’ll often work alongside you, sharing ideas and skills as we go.

You don’t need to be an expert gardener, cook or childcare professional. What matters most to us is that you’re reliable, comfortable and confident around children, happy to get stuck in, and able to use your initiative. We really value people who can see something that needs doing and lend a hand without always needing detailed instructions.

We want this to feel like a genuine cultural exchange rather than simply a list of jobs. We love getting to know the people who stay with us, sharing meals and stories, learning about each other’s cultures and helping you experience everyday Kiwi family life. We hope that someone staying with us longer-term will really start to feel like part of our family while also having plenty of opportunity to enjoy Auckland and explore New Zealand.

  • Acomodação

    Acomodação

Our accommodation setup is a little different because we also run part of our home as an bnb, so flexibility is important for a longer-term stay.

Whenever the bnb is free, you’ll stay in our **private guest suite**, which has two bedrooms, a private bathroom, kitchenette (with microwave, kettle and toaster), Wi-Fi, TV and a separate entrance. It opens onto our tropical garden and gives you plenty of privacy and space to relax.

Our bnb is often booked over weekends, and Olivia’s mum also comes to stay every second week from Monday to Thursday. When the guest suite is being used, you’ll move into our **second lounge/playroom**, which converts into your bedroom. The girls use this space during the day, but once they’re in bed it becomes your space for the evening and overnight.

This does mean you won’t have one permanent bedroom throughout your stay, so we’re looking for someone who is relaxed and genuinely comfortable moving between the two spaces. We’ll always let you know about upcoming bookings so you know when you’ll be changing rooms.

We’ll provide all bedding and towels, and you’ll have access to our laundry facilities. We’ll also provide meals or groceries depending on what works best for everyone, and we’re happy to accommodate dietary requirements with a little notice.

We know this setup won’t suit everyone, but for someone flexible who enjoys being part of family life, we hope it offers the best of both worlds—lots of time enjoying the privacy of our guest suite, while still having a comfortable place to stay when the bnb or family need the space. Most importantly, we want you to feel welcome, well looked after and at home while you’re with us.

  • Algo mais...

    Algo mais...

We live in a peaceful, family-friendly neighbourhood in East Auckland, close to beautiful beaches, coastal walks, cafés, supermarkets and public transport. On your time off, you can explore Howick Village, Botany Town Centre and Half Moon Bay Marina, catch the ferry into Auckland City, discover some of Auckland’s regional parks, or simply enjoy our pool and tropical garden at home.

Because helping with school and daycare transport is an important part of what we need, **you’ll need to be a confident driver with a licence that allows you to legally drive in New Zealand**. We can provide a vehicle for the school and daycare runs, so you don’t need to have your own car.

We value kindness, honesty, reliability and open communication. We’re a busy household with two young children, so life isn’t always perfectly organised or quiet! We appreciate someone who is relaxed around normal family chaos, helps keep shared spaces clean and tidy, communicates if something isn’t working, and treats our home and belongings with care.

We also have a very friendly indoor cat, so you’ll need to be comfortable living with pets—and mindful of keeping him safely inside.

Although you’ll be joining in with our family life, we also respect that you’re an independent adult and need your own time and space. We want this to be an arrangement where everyone feels comfortable, respected and able to communicate openly.

Most importantly, we hope you’ll enjoy settling into our little corner of Auckland, sharing meals, stories and plenty of laughs with us, and experiencing what everyday family life in New Zealand is really like.

We’re very happy to welcome digital nomads and people working or studying remotely. We have reliable Wi-Fi and plenty of opportunity to balance your own work with being part of our busy family life. Our weekday routine does include some morning and afternoon commitments, so we’re looking for someone whose remote work has a reasonable amount of flexibility. In the mornings, we’ll all work together to get the girls ready for the day, with the main help we need being transporting our 3-year-old to daycare and our 8-year-old to school once they’re ready. We’d also need help picking our 8-year-old up from school in the afternoon. Outside of these regular family commitments, we’re very flexible about when the rest of your Workaway hours are completed. Gardening, housework, cooking and property projects can usually be fitted around your remote work, study or plans to explore Auckland. We think this could be a great arrangement for a digital nomad looking for a longer-term base in Auckland who enjoys children, family life and having a bit of variety in their day. You’ll have time for your own work and adventures while also getting to experience what everyday Kiwi family life is really like.
