    Descrição

Hi! I live in a charming (but very lived-in) old house in a quiet village in northern Germany. It has a big, somewhat wild garden, creaky wooden floors, and lots of corners filled with history and potential. I'm currently working on bringing it all back to life — slowly but surely — and I’d love your help doing that!

This project includes gardening, small improvement tasks, and general decluttering and organizing. It’s ideal for people who like hands-on work, enjoy some independence, and want to be part of a real, evolving home project — not just a to-do list.

I live here with my grandmother, who has dementia. I’m her main caregiver, so some of my days are shaped by her needs, but I also work part-time as a writer and project coordinator. I love creative ideas, secondhand treasures, and practical DIY solutions — and I enjoy sharing all that with open-minded people from around the world.

I’m mainly on Workaway because I was a Workawayer myself when I was younger, and I had some amazing experiences. I’d like to give that same kind of meaningful cultural exchange back to others now. I want my place to feel like a home away from home — where you contribute to something, learn a little, and enjoy the countryside at your own pace.

Staying here means stepping into village life in rural Eastern Germany — where time moves a little slower, neighbors still wave at each other, and traditions meet quiet transformation.

I’ve lived abroad and traveled quite a bit myself, so I truly value cultural exchange. Whether it’s chatting over coffee, sharing meals, learning from each other’s habits or humor, or swapping stories about very different ways of life — I love creating space for genuine connection.

You’re welcome to practice your German (or help me keep my English fresh!), join me for local outings (I'm very active in my village - you're more than welcome to join), or explore the area on your own. If you’re interested, I can show you around the village, introduce you to local spots, or help you experience a slice of everyday life here — from visiting the market to seasonal festivals or local nature walks.

This isn’t a tourist spot, so you’ll get an authentic, off-the-beaten-track experience of life in a small East German community (I'm pointing this out, as the east german rural mentality differs quite a bit from the western one). You can meet my friends or join in for a relaxed evening or a local event if something’s happening during your stay.

I want your time here to be more than just work — something that sticks with you as a warm memory, just like my best Workaway experiences did for me.

    Ajuda

There’s always something to do around here, and I try to match tasks with your interests and strengths. Here are some of the areas where I could use help:

    Gardening & outdoor work
The garden is big and a bit wild — I’d love help with mowing, planting, trimming trees, moving soil or compost, and building simple garden structures like raised beds or a wood shelter. If you know a thing or two about permaculture or garden planning, that’s a big plus — but not required.

    Improvement projects
There are small repair or improvement projects around the house and yard. Think: fixing things, painting, clearing out sheds, or helping to erect shelves and storage. If you enjoy working with your hands, this will be right up your alley.

    Decluttering & organizing
This old house has collected a lot of stuff over the years. I could really use help sorting, organizing, and clearing out — both indoors and in outbuildings. A fresh set of eyes (and hands) makes a huge difference here.

    General help around the house
Sometimes that means cleaning windows, helping me move furniture around, or doing small odd jobs to make the space more livable and cozy.

    Language & cultural exchange
I’m always happy to practice English or help with German — and if you like to cook or share music or stories from where you’re from, even better! I'm not looking for care work regarding my grandma, but being respectful and kind in a shared space is important.

I’m a native German speaker and speak English fluently — happy to switch between both depending on what you’re most comfortable with! I’ve also started learning Italian and would love to practice a bit if that’s a language you speak. Coincidentally, I'm a linguist — I love all languages and find dialects especially fascinating. If you speak a regional variety or a lesser-known language, I’d be thrilled to hear about it. Whether it’s chatting about grammar quirks, pronunciation, or just listening to how people speak where you're from — I’m all ears. If you're learning German, I'm happy to help you practice in everyday conversations or dive deeper into the language, depending on what you're looking for. Language exchange here is super informal and happens naturally while working together or sharing a meal.

  • Acomodação

    Acomodação

You'll have your own private room in my cozy, character-filled house in the quiet village of Satuelle, northern Germany. The room is simple and comfortable—perfect for relaxing after a day of hands-on projects. Please note that I share my room with two friendly bunnies, so if you're an animal lover, you'll feel right at home!

The bathroom is shared only with me (my grandmother has her own on the ground floor), and you'll have full access to the kitchen and fridge. I handle the grocery shopping and you're welcome to add your preferences to the list. Feel free to help yourself to anything available, and if you enjoy cooking, the kitchen is all yours to experiment in.

The house is old and full of charm—not fancy, but warm and welcoming. We have 100 Mbit Wi-Fi, which is reliable for most online activities. However, mobile phone reception can be a bit spotty in the area, so Wi-Fi calling is recommended.

Smoking is allowed only outside, to keep the indoor environment fresh and comfortable for everyone.

You'll also have access to an e-bike and if all goes to plan also a car during your stay, giving you the freedom to explore the beautiful surroundings at your own pace.

  • Algo mais...

    Algo mais...

Life in our little village moves a bit slower — and that’s a good thing! It gives you space to breathe, reset, and actually hear the birds sing (or the neighbor’s tractor, depending on the time of day). On your time off, you can hop on the e-bike or take the car (if it’s free) to explore the forests, fields, and nearby towns like Haldensleben or Magdeburg. There’s also a cute local swimming lake, and plenty of little adventures to be found if you like wandering off the beaten path.

I live here with my grandma, who’s stubborn, but very warm, and has dementia — which means she’s unintentionally funny and sometimes repeats herself. She has her own space downstairs and usually does her own thing. You’ll mostly interact with me — and I’m friendly, flexible, and always up for a good conversation (or a random language fact — I’m a linguist, can’t help it).

You’ll also share the house with two extremely spoiled bunnies who live in my room. They won’t bother you — unless you’re holding a carrot.

Here’s a few easy house rules, mostly just common sense:

Smoking only outside, please — the bunnies and the grandma both prefer it that way.

Try to keep quiet-ish at night so we all get our beauty sleep.

Feel free to treat the kitchen like your own, just clean up after.

Most importantly: make yourself at home, ask questions, and don’t worry about doing everything “perfect.”

This place isn’t a polished paradise — it’s a real home in progress, full of stories, dust, and dreams. If that sounds like your kind of adventure, you’ll fit right in.

If you’re a digital nomad looking to work remotely while helping out, you’ll have a reliable Wi-Fi connection (100 Mbit), which should be more than enough for most online tasks. The peaceful setting can be an ideal backdrop for focused work — though, fair warning, mobile reception can be a bit iffy in the area, so plan for Wi-Fi calling or keep your mobile data in mind for video calls. I’m also working full-time remotely from home, so I understand the need for flexibility and quiet when you need to focus. The pace of work here is flexible, so if you need to schedule your hours around your work, that’s absolutely fine. Feel free to adjust your workday — for instance, you can work longer hours on a couple of days and have some afternoons or mornings off to focus on your projects. We’re flexible and I’m happy to work around your needs! Just keep me posted if you need time for work-related commitments, and we’ll make it work. The idea is for you to get the best out of both worlds: helping out with hands-on tasks here while having time to focus on your digital work. I understand the balance you need, and I’m happy to be flexible as long as we communicate and keep things running smoothly.

    Espaço para estacionar campervans

If you’re traveling in your own camper van, you’re very welcome! I have enough space on the property for you to park and stay comfortably. You can still use the bathroom, kitchen, and other shared spaces in the house — or keep things more independent, whatever suits you best.

  • Pode aceitar animais

    Pode aceitar animais

I currently have two bunnies living in my room, and they’re a part of the family — so if you love animals, you’ll definitely feel at home! However, I’m a bit selective about other pets. If you’re planning to bring your own pet, please let me know in advance. Ideally, pets should be well-behaved and easy to manage in shared spaces. For example, I can’t accept pets that might disturb the bunnies or have the potential to be too disruptive in a house with my grandmother. If you have a dog, cat, or other animal, let’s discuss how it would fit into the space and whether it will be a comfortable environment for everyone. Please be aware that if you’re bringing a pet, we’ll need to work out some additional details to ensure that it’s a good fit for the house.
