Descrição
Traditional Montenegrin farm stay, helping me Mila and my husband Boza, pronounced Boja with everyday farm tasks while staying in a truly wild and remote corner of Montenegro overlooking the Tara Canyon, the worlds second largest canyon and Europe's largest.
We are two of the last remaining farmers in the area and in our late 60's and early 70's we find certain tasks much easier now with some extra hands. We rear our own animals including cows, pigs, chickens and bees, which we use the produce from to eat and sell to a local business. We make own cheese, kaymak, milk, yoghurt, smoked meat and sausage and also grow all the veg for the year and the long winter, we also distil our own Rakija.
This is real traditional farming with food from the mountain fields to the plate, you will learn traditional ways to rear animals, from the collecting of grass in the summer to prepping food to last the long winters. We can find ourselves isolated and cut-off from all contact with other people for months in the winter with snow depths of upto 3 metres!
We only speak Montenegrin, but we have english friends who live near by who we can communicate with through google translate, if at times it does produce some comical translations. So be prepared to be fully immersed into Montenegrin rural culture and farm living.
The area offers incredible places to explore with the added bonus of been one of Europe's hotspots for kayaking, rafting and river SUP on the majestic river Tara that skirts its way along the Montenegrin and Bosnian border. Within an hour you can be at the base of Bobotov Kuk, Durmitor national parks highest peak, or exploring the black lakes of Zabljak. The scope for exploration is endless, with unspoilt ancient landscapes and truly dark skies with no light pollution from anywhere.
We are happy to exchange 5 hours help a day for 5 days in exchange for food and a place to park your van or pitch a tent, the area is very remote so your own transport is very much recommended, but it is feasible without transport if your adventurous. This is a traditional farm, albeit on a small self sufficient scale, but the food is very much dairy and meat based as is most Balkan food. So if you are vegan you may find it difficult as a stay but not completely impossible, but vegan diet supplements/alternatives to dairy products or meat can not unfortunately be provided as their are no shops that provide these products.
You have to be prepared for the stay here as it is not near any towns or villages with shops, there is a local campsite named camp Grab run by friends of ourselves where you can meet tourists from all over the world, grab a beer and relax next to the river, this is a 20 minute drive.
We love to welcome people and to meet people from all over the world to hear stories and to exchange our knowledge and way of life with people, you will certainly receive a very warm Montenegrin welcoming.Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado
