We are a busy but (generally!) happy family of four - mum, Maria, and dad, Brian, with two girls - Maeve, aged 8, and Maia who turned 5 in September. We also have a cat called Cracker!

We live in a spacious house in the countryside, 30 mins by car or bus from the vibrant Cork City. We are primarily looking for help with childcare and housework, for the helper to act as an extra pair of hands around the house and to integrate with and feel part of our family. We have an opening for FEMALE helpers who can stay for a minimum of two months (ideally three months or more) as it's disruptive for the children when new workawayers arrive or when people they have grown fond of leave.
We are happy to facilitate the workawayer's social, cultural and sight-seeing trips as much as possible during their stay with us but we also encourage volunteers to use their time off and weekends to do their own thing and explore Cork and Ireland in general.
Workaway helpers will have their own bedroom, bathroom and living area in our home during their stay with us.

Workawayers will gain an insight into Irish family life living with us! They will also have the opportunity to see a lot of Cork and the surrounding area. Maria has been a journalist for 15 years and now works in PR, so she meets a lot of interesting people and has a lot of information / stories to share. She often says she thinks she should have worked in tourism, as she loves going on trips and showing workawyers around!

Ajuda
We are looking for a female volunteer to help care for a fun 8 year old girl and her 5 year old sister, mostly in the afternoons. The girls are in school until almost 2pm and 3pm each day so workawayers have plenty of free time to study, exercise or just have time out in the mornings and evenings. Maria and Brian both work mostly from home so there is always someone around.
Experience with and interest in children and a willingness to help out around the house is important for us. Volunteers will also have plenty of free time to travel at weekends and will also have the opportunity to go on occasional trips and outings with the family.

We live in an area known as the Lee Valley, 30 mins from Cork City. Our home is located in tranquil countryside (great for walks) close to two small country villages, not far from the River Lee where there is access to boating, walking and fishing activities.
We are only 15 mins from both the towns of Macroom and Ballincollig, which we regularly visit for shopping, and of course Cork City, which is known as the 'city of festivals', where there is always something happening, whatever your interests! We live close to the bus route to Cork City and Macroom but we're also happy to transport helpers to their destination when possible. However it is important for Workawayers to be as independent as possible during their stay with us.

My stay at Maria's and Jake's house was my first experience with workaway and my first time abroad ever. Everything was very new and I was nervous but in the end, there was no reason for that. The family welcomed me at the airport and I felt comfortable and part of the family from the first moment I saw them.
I had my own living area with a… read more bedroom, a bathroom and a sitting area which was nice when I wanted to read or watch a movie by myself.
Jake is a very good cook (I especially liked the curry ;)) and I always enjoyed the daily family dinners. Both Maria and Jake are very openminded and always happy for a chat about everything you can imagine which I think was absolutely great for getting to know them and for improving my English skills.
Although the family lives in a small village with no public transport, Maria and Jake gave me the opportunity to go wherever I wanted to by driving me to a bus station or to Cork City several times. Because of that and because of the fact that I met a few other Aupairs from Aghabullogue or a nearby village, my weekends were adventurous and I was able to see many new (and stunning) places. Also, Maria and Jake always invited me to family activities at the weekends and they took me to beaches, the mountains and a lot more beautiful places.
I stayed with Maria, Jake, Maia and Maeve for three months and I can tell you that my time with them was never boring! They have a very active and busy family life and I have never witnessed a day without any plans!
What I had to do during my stay was depending on the plans for the day which varied sometimes. But there was a good communication between Maria and me so that I always knew what to do. Basically, my jobs were to mind Maia and Maeve when they came home from pre-school and school (12:30pm and 3pm) and to do some light housework like cleaning the kitchen or making lunch. The work I had to do was very easy and never too much especially because Maria and Jake work at home most of the time so there's always someone around.

Finally, I want to say something about Maia and Maeve!
I have never met two girls that are so cute and funny at the same time! I spent most of my time with Maia (4 years old) and we had a lot of fun together playing with her teddys or playing games like UNO, memory or Backgammon. Also, she was very creative and did a lot of drawing and she enjoyed it when I was reading something to her. When the weather was getting better in March, we spent most of the time outside jumping on the trampoline or riding a bike. Maia has an adorable character, although she sometimes has her own opinion on things and is hard to convince. But I have to say, that I got along with her very well from day one and I noticed that our relationship was getting stronger each day. Sometimes, we laughed about just one situation for the whole day!
The first thing I have to say about Maeve is, that she is extremely open-minded and she has a lot of different hobbies for example reading, drawing, playing the violine, doing street-acrobatics, swimming and some more. Watching her and Maia play together was amazing for me - besides from a few ordinary arguments between two sisters, they get along well and are helpful and kind to each other. Such as her sister, Maeve is absolutely funny and very clever in many ways.
All in all, I had the best time with Maia and Maeve and I have plenty good memories to think about now that I'm back in Germany. I can absolutely recommend staying with them and I want to thank all of you for that amazing time we had together! I hope there will be a time where I can visit you and see you all again! Staying with Maria and her family has been a great experience and now back at home I really miss them. From "Frozen" music in the car to dancing wild around at home, from teddy to the Big Friendly Giant. In the end it was an unforgettable time!

At the beginning it was a bit difficult for me because it was my first time of minding children in… read more this age and I have to say: it was a challenge but in the end we managed it. It took a little while until I knew the daily routine and until the kids got familiar with me but after a few weeks we were a good team.

I shared the life of the family for three and a half month and experienced a lot of adventures. The biggest was definitely their wedding at the end of June. So everything was turning around this event and I notice how much work it is to organize a wedding by yourself. That´s why it was sometimes a stressful time but I am proud to support them and be part of the Family in this time in their life.

My daily tasks were to mind the children in the afternoon and help with some housework in the morning. But I also had time to study or to go for a walk. The afternoons I spent together with the two girls until dinner time. Maeve and Maia usually love to play together and dream up a lot of stories in which they are playing in. For that they like to use the whole living room and their toys for or imagine a new world in the garden. You get fast a playmate of them.
The family has a big garden and it´s like a private playground for Maeve and Maia. You will have a lot of fun with them on the trampoline, the swing or in their own little garden house. Furthermore you can go upwards the road and have a look for cows and horses.

Maeve is an easy- going, open-minded and funny girl. She is a good sister to Maia and likes to jump on the trampoline, discover new things and play around. The first weeks Maia was a difficult little lady but after a while I became a friend of her and watch this cute girl growing up. She loves to read a book, swing or do a jigsaw. In the time I was with them she got a "big" girl and became an own character- not a toddler anymore.

The house is situated in the green countryside. Perfect to enjoy the silence and nature of Ireland. To visit Cork you can take the bus or Brian and Maria offer a lift into the city. It´s an advantages if you are able to rent a car or another Au pair has a car. My own room and bathroom was separate to the living area in the house so that you have an area for privacy. The room was a bit cold in spring but there is an electrical heater in case. Also an own sitting area is great in the evening to watch a movie or read a book. I never sat alone there because their lovely cat Cracker enjoyed the time with me and was always looking for a stroking hand.

At the weekend you are free to join the family on their trips or meet other Au Pairs. With both opportunities I had the chance to explore Ireland. Especially Maria and Brian are excellent "Ireland guides" and will recommend you a lot of places to visit or take you with them to places you maybe wouldn´t know about or visit. It was a pleasure for me to join their trips and see so much of the country!

Maria and Brian are lovely, warm, generous and interesting people. Maria likes to help you with the language so that my English skills got definitively improved. Jake is looking for a good chat and likes to joke around.

I enjoyed my time with the family and I appreciated that they treated me like a part of their family. I learned a lot about myself and the daily life of a busy family. You will never get bored, there are a lot of things to do.

Thank you for the nice, exciting and adventurous time I could spent with you four! You will stay in my mind and I hope we will see us one day again!
