Hello there☀️

My name is Michelle, I am a Psychology graduate with a huge interest in languages, cultures, politics, and people!

Now that I am finishing my bachelor’s degree, I want to take some time to further explore my interests before continuing with a Master’s degree. There are many things I enjoy doing and talking about with people: whether it’s concerts, theatre, boxing, reading, or cooking, I enjoy trying out different activities and getting inspired by other people and their hobbies and passions. 🎉

I have been fortunate enough to spend time abroad, including several months in France, the U.S., Greece, and Turkey. That’s why speaking and learning languages have always interested me. I am fluent in German, English, and Russian, have a good knowledge of French, and am currently trying to learn Turkish.

Over the past few years, I have completed internships, done volunteer work, and worked in many different places. Here is a quick overview: ⬇

- Tutoring in English and Math
- Working in a media lab that created content about democracy and different cultures
- Supporting youth groups
- An internship in criminology research and crime prevention
- Promoting at different fairs and events
- Organising a small international film festival
- Working at a hostel for quite a while now, which will soon additionally open a café

I loved having so many different work experiences because they taught me so much and each one challenged me in a different way. I look forward to gaining more work experience during my Workaway and, as I have done in the past, combining work with fun! 😄

I enjoy working with people (I think my openness and enthusiasm help me with that), but I would also like to try something a bit more hands-on sometime soon. Additionally, I very much enjoy the company of animals, and it comes naturally to me to spend a lot of time around them. I don’t shy away from trying things I haven’t done before or taking on responsibility. 💪

What I value about Workaway is that you can stay in a place for a longer period of time and get to know it and its people beneath the surface, not only as a tourist. It gives me the opportunity to understand the uniqueness and complexity of different places.

I am an open-minded and open-hearted person, so I would love to build a connection and spend time with whoever I stay with, even if it’s just for a couple of weeks. I would love to experience your lifestyle, immerse myself in the culture, and learn as much as possible from your perspective on the world! 😊

Since I was born and raised in Germany, I can gladly teach you some basic German and practice it with you throughout your daily life. During my 5-month-stay in the U.S. and my 8-month-stay in Greece I improved my English skills a lot and also obtained the Cambridge Certificate for English on the level C2 (mother tongue level). I grew up with Russian as my second mother tongue and am therefore fluent in speaking and happy to practise it with you. However, my reading and writing skills in Russian are quite limited, so the teaching and learning process would happen mostly verbally (my level is approximately C1). During school I spent 3 months with a host family in Angers, France, and also continued to study French in school. I would love to help you with your French reading, writing and speaking, my level is approximately B1+. Another language I am very interested in learning is Turkish. I already know enough to have a bit of smalltalk but really want to improve more! It would mean a lot to me, because it could help me communicate with the people there more and give a better insight into the culture.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Thanks to my studies, I have quite some knowledge about psychological topics and am also good at doing research, reading and writing academic texts. Since I have worked at a hostel for almost two years now, I am skilled at creating a plan, structuring myself and organising different things and events. Because of different volunteering programs I have done and my huge interest in culture, I can also gather and brainstorm ideas and become creative: Whether it's book clubs or poetry slams, I'm on it!

Because of the different jobs I have done, including the ones in the Psychological sector, I am good at getting along and communicating with all kinds of people. I enjoy working in a team but am also ready to take on responsibility by myself, when needed.

I have general knowledge in PowerPoint, Word, Pages, Padlet and Canva. As I mentioned before, my mother is a music teacher, so I took singing, dancing and theatre classes throughout most of my life and have basic skills in piano.

Since I have been doing workouts for multiple years now, I also sometimes create my own workouts, which I can happily share with other people!
