Lene was an absolutely fantastic member of our family and team during her stay, and we cannot recommend her highly enough. She fully embraced the Workaway spirit, making herself indispensable and spreading warmth and positivity wherever she went. From the moment she arrived, Lene was a ray of sunshine. We were particularly grateful that Lene never had a single complaint; she was incredibly flexible and happy to share everything we had, making her integration into our home seamless and stress-free. Lene's contributions went above and beyond the required tasks. She was wonderful with our children, even bringing them thoughtful presents, which was incredibly kind. She was a natural with our students, delivering engaging English lessons and inventing fun new games that brought laughter to the classroom. Furthermore, she generously used her beautiful face, voice and videography skills to create a professional video to advertise our new classes—a huge help to our business! Beyond her professional help, Lene connected with us personally. We all thoroughly enjoyed the authentic Norwegian meal she prepared for us; it was a memorable culinary experience. Lene, thank you for your commitment, your enthusiasm, and your kindness. You are welcome back to our home anytime, and we truly hope you will visit us again! — Mahesh and Family

Sandra and Oliver were very welcoming and kind throughout the stay. The place is truly amazing, perfect for disconnecting from the city and recharging. The horses are very special, each with its own unique personality to discover. It’s also a perfect spot for walks or yoga. An unforgettable experience!

I spent my first workaway ever at Jaco & Alex, I was really scared about travelling on my own, living in new places. From the moment Jaco open the door of her car for me, all my fears flew away, Alex was really attentive to my well-being, he's such a sensitive person, and Jaco was really loving, I really admired her perception of life. The place really is a little piece of even, filled with growing food and kind animals. if you're looking for peace, silence, nature, you're in the right place. I had such a great time, will definitely miss the place and all its residents, Merci, thank you, danke Anouk :))

What a week! Thank you Mish and Nige for hosting me in November this will definitely be one of my South Island highlights. I worked on removing gorse from the main quad track, potting up plants in Mish's (gorgeous) native nursery and painting a cabin. In the morning and after our mahi Mish would also lead a quick meditation which I really appreciated and looked forward too. The rangers also took time out of their days to join us in our mahi and Lizzie (Ranger) explained more in depth the trapping they do here and why it's so important. Mish and Nige both work the hardest to restore the land and to host so many volunteers at once! Their dedication and passion for what they're doing shines through. Thank you so much :) (Final note - Mish is an incredible chef and cooks up the best porridge, curries and wraps)

Oh Rebecca! You are dearly missed already... Rebecca stayed with us over the winter/peak season and actually ended up staying much longer than planned (to our delight). She arrived in June and very quickly became part of the family. She learned the hostel tasks very quick and led her day with a very impressive work ethic (balancing the hostel job with 2 other jobs in town!). She was very respectful and responsible towards all of the hostel happenings, which is very nice and appreciated. We never had to worry about tasks or managing too much when she was here, we could trust her with a lot. She was a huge help in training new people and was very detailed in making sure everything was covered. She is a very interesting person who has tons of stories to share; most will surprise you in the best ways. She reminded me to lead life with a willingness to adapt and take calculated risks - I always looked forward to chats with her and making spontaneous plans after work. She was such an essential part of our family here - and a wicked dealer of the best popcorn in town ;) She is welcome back ANY time, and we cannot recommend her enough (if you are lucky enough to receive a request from her)

This is one of our favorite Workaway experiences in the world! We stayed with Ness, Brett, Ari and Thea for about 2 weeks. Ness and Brett are so kind, sincere and generous from the beginning to the end. When we told Ness that we would stay in Queenstown for couple days before we went to Te Anau, she just gave us an opportunity to stay with her in her parents house and then gave us a ride back to Te Anau which was super kind to us!! We stayed in a new, clean and modern caravan which has everything we need like bathroom, kitchen and a comfortable double bed! And they also let us use the bigger bathroom in the house. Living in a caravan is one of our dreams and our dream came true there!🥰 Our jobs there basically are gardening like weeding, staking the fruit trees, sowing the lawn, mowing the grass and erecting a stone border. Sometimes, we cooked the dinner for sharing asian food with them! Ness always showed us how to do the jobs and how to use the tools. She is very patient and thoughtful! The working time was very flexible there. If you are very efficient, then you will have more time to explore Te Anau! ❣️ The highlights of our stay were taking the private boat on the Te Anau lake and going to the Milford Sound! Brett is a very relaxed and friendly person, we love to chat with him and join his "mice team"!😎😜 Ari and Thea are amazing kids, both of them are polite and interesting. We enjoyed playing card games with them and we won't forget the time in the trampoline competition! Words can't express our gratitude! Thanks again for your kindness and generosity, Ness and Brett! Wish you all the best and keep healthy and happy! Highly recommended to stay with them!! Love you guys a lot!! xxx❤️😍 Hope we can meet again soon!

We had a very pleasant stay with Sara, with lots of great conversations and exchanges. Sara is really wonderful, friendly and always smiling, and she showed a lot of interest in our culture and discovering our beautiful region. She helped us a lot in our garden, reorganising the vegetable patch, always willing and hard-working. Sara is very serious and very reliable. Thank you, Sara, for your help. We are really happy to have met you.

My stay with Wilson was a great first Workaway experience for me! He is incredibly kind, helpful, and easygoing, and he made me feel welcome from the first day. The work was very relaxed—mainly cleaning, small tasks, and helping with check-in/-out—always clear and never stressful. I’m really grateful for the chance to stay there and would absolutely recommend Wilson as a host. Thanks again for everything!

Sara has an infectious smile, with a kind, easy going, gentle and considerate nature. We really enjoyed Sara's willingness to try new skills, her attention to detail, and openness to learn. Sara was openly appreciative of daily meals and nature meditations received, works well in a team and independently. Sara loves animals and offered to walk our dogs, which was really helpful over our busy week including keeping communal areas tidy. Sara was part of an 8 x volunteer group (local conservation rangers and workawayers) and over her time completed weed control (hand pulling gorse), priming and painting volunteer tiny cabin, oiling timber on outdoor shower block, potting on native plants including nikau palm, pukatea, lowland horopito and kawa kawa, and washing nursery pots for re-use. Thank you Sara for all your wonderful work and wishing you well for the rest of your travels.

We were impressed with Phie's curiosity to learn, her diligence with task completion, and her thoughtfulness/proactiveness for always looking around to see what to do next or what equipment to put away. Phie is kind and generous with others, and openly appreciative of daily meals and nature meditations received. Phie works well in a team and independently. Phie was always helpful in our communal areas, sharing preparation and washing up. Outside of work, Phie was active, really making the most of seeing local attractions. Thank you Phie; we really appreciated your positive energy and generosity to our passion project.

It was a great experience having Joey with us for a month. He adapted to everything: the different accommodation setups, the various tasks, and the changing work rhythms from week to week. He learns very quickly and fit right into our big international tribe, despite all the different personalities. Joey is a discreet, polite, and genuinely kind person. I can only encourage you to welcome this awesome guy into your team!

I spent one week volunteering with Tara and Anjana, and even though my stay was short, it was incredibly meaningful. They are both wonderful hosts: warm, welcoming and always willing to help. They arranged all the transportation to their home, which made everything very easy from the start. During my stay, we helped in the fields even though we had no previous experience, and we learned how to plant potatoes :) We also spent a few mornings at the local school, and the children’s enthusiasm and kindness made those moments truly special. The house is located in a rural area, but we could explore the surroundings and reach the nearest town thanks to the bicycles they provided. We also had plenty of free time, and I really enjoyed our evenings together: sharing dinner, chatting and even cooking some Italian dishes for them. I loved the peaceful atmosphere and the chance to experience real local life. It was a wholesome and genuine experience that made me appreciate the value of simple things. Thank you so much Tara and Anjana I’ll always remember my time with you!
