This was my first time volunteering, and Pimmy and Roberto were absolutely wonderful to me. Instead of just sightseeing, being able to cook dinner and enjoy Spanish ham with them every day was such a highlight! I felt truly immersed in Spanish life, even though they aren’t a typical Spanish family—hearing four different languages mixed together daily was so much fun! The work felt natural, like taking care of my own home, and I treated their house with that same care. They were so kind to praise my hard work. I also loved teaching Chinese to Victor and Oscar. These two teenagers are hilarious—it was great seeing them handle so many chores with such order, while still keeping their playful boyish energy. They even helped me with Chinese translations, which was so sweet. And little Luis is just adorable; I wanted to give him a hug every single day! I highly recommend other volunteers to join this 'United Nations' family. You will gain so much from the experience. They also fully supported my travel plans, giving me great advice and introducing me to BlaBlaCar, which made my trips so smooth. Thank you again!

Mayu is a kind, considerate young lady who was a pleasure to host. Our week was very enjoyable and a true cultural exchange. We learnt many things about Japan and Mayu was very interested in Australia culture and language. She is keen to improve her English language skills and learnt many new words while staying with us. We were able to communicate very well and enjoyed our time with her. She was helpful and we achieved many jobs. She was always very polite and asking if she can help. I would recommend Mayu without hesitation,

We stayed for two weeks in March, had a wonderful time in Siquijor and got a great introduction to permaculture in a tropical climate! Learned so much from Jackie and Julia on transplanting seedlings, to tilling the soil for a whole plant bed, plant identification of local plants (okra, kalabasa, mustasa), collecting/conserving water use with rainwater collection and greywater systems, building a fire to cook a vegetarian meal on a "rocket stove", vermicomposting from cow manure and worms, and so much more. We miss staying at Atong Baol already. The peace in their mountain area, comfy hammocks in the living space, Lupia, LC and Talong (two dogs and a cat) scurrying around asking for rubs and the fulfilling work in nature. J+J were crystal clear about the daily tasks, had good mix of hands-on instruction/feedback and just trusting the volunteers to do a good job. The 4-hour workdays, 5-days/week was a good set-up that allowed Izzy and I the time and energy to still travel around the island to beaches, waterfalls, mountain hikes, cafes throughout the duration of our stay. J+J provide their volunteers lots of great recommendations of hidden gems all over Siquijor. We would love to come back again and see how their farm grows!

Andrea and Chandra will always have a place in my heart. Andrea is a constant, loving presence; Chandra is vibrant, lively, and full of inspiration. It is a magical place, and being there makes you feel like part of a family. For me, it was a space to reconnect with myself and others, and to commit to daily activities. It’s also a space to explore one’s talents and learn new things. It is completely surrounded by nature, yet nestled at the foot of a typical Tuscan Maremma village and close to the sea as well. For me, it was an unforgettable experience. Grazie di cuore!

Thank you, Paul, Sharon and Lottie. Surrounded by lots of animals, nature and warm-hearted people, I had a truly wonderful experience. It was a priceless time. First of all, the family of three gave me a warm welcome. Although my English wasn’t perfect, they spoke to me slowly and clearly. Thanks to that, I was able to relax and enjoy my stay. I helped with tasks such as pruning raspberry bushes and cleaning the house. Both during and after these tasks, they were very considerate and we chatted a great deal in between. As they truly love their way of life, they taught me so much. I enjoyed every moment. Their daughter, is only 11 years old, but she knows so many words and things, and taught me a great deal. Thanks to her, my English skills have improved. And, above all, the food here was absolutely brilliant. They prepare almost everything from scratch themselves. Everything was fresh and full of vitality. The family is also very mindful of what they eat for the sake of their health. Although my stay was only a week, thanks to the food here, my skin is in the best condition it has been in the last three or four years. I highly recommend visiting here. An unforgettable, wonderful experience awaits you.

Hosting Lety and Em was an enriching experience - we've gone through a lot of things in only two weeks of their stay! Plenty of work was done mainly (but not only) in the garden, thank you for brining nice weather for the duration of your stay! We celebrated Em's birthday in an improvised but warm way, we got to eat Mexican food (yes, spicy - but in an unusual way!). Lety got ill for a few days and I followed just a bit later so we had to improvise and change plans due to that but thanks to mutual respect, undestanding and willingness to find common ground it all worked out! As hosts, we learnt to be clearer in our instructions and to double check if everything was understood correctly - sometimes what seems natural and logical for us might be completely new to our volunteers. Lety and Em are very thoughtful and intelligent people, it was a pleasure to talk to them and exchange about a lot of different topics. Wishing you only the best in your future travels and life experiences!

Elli and Franzi's place was my first stop in Spain, and I am so happy about it. They told me a lot about how workawayers are misused by other hosts and I was very lucky being at their place with fair and caring conditions! They help you out a lot with sharing experiences for traveling, and I did learn a lot about construction and maintaining land at their place, too! When you are into something, you can go deeper with them, Franzi knows a lot about all kind of things and Elli is very sweet with the animals and cooks very nice!:) Overall a very sweet couple, very pretty place and the animals are lovely 🤗 very glad to have spend six weeks there, time went so fast!

Staying with Brian, Michelle and Sarah for a month was hands-down the highlight of my time in Ireland. I went there as a volunteer to learn about the world of beekeeping, but I left with so much more than just new skills: I brought home wonderful memories and felt like I had found a second family. From the moment I arrived, they went above and beyond to make me feel right at home. They were all incredibly patient and knowledgeable, sharing their passion for the bees and their love for all their animals (who I absolutely adored!). Honestly, my only regret is that I couldn't have stayed longer. Thank you for such an incredible experience!

An excellent experience and an excellent host. He and his wife are very open, polite, and friendly people. The place is very nice and the culture is interesting. I felt very comfortable in their home. Plus, he’s a very intelligent man—he’s written many books and traveled to many countries. I learned a lot. The room they offered me was spacious, comfortable, clean, and quiet. I recommend this host a thousand times over. An excellent exchange.

Sofia spent ten days with us and helped paint, renovate, work in the garden and clean as part of our general maintenance routine as well as in preparation for a photo shoot. She worked efficiently, methodically, reliably and independently, completed all tasks as discussed and was always ready to lend an extra hand. Communicating with her was easy and she was committed to her assignments and completed them all. She was immensely helpful, but beyond that she was truly a joy to be with! Her easy sense of humour, her warmth, clarity and positive spirit was an enrichment to us and by the time she left we felt like we had to say good bye to a family member. Sofia was probably the youngest workaway guest we have had, but her maturity was far beyond her age. We highly recommend Sofia as help to anyone who is lucky enough to host her. She left our walls sparkling with fresh paint and our hearts sparkling with joy. :-)

My experience with Dina and Ginette was incredible!! They were such welcoming hosts, I even was lucky enough to be included in Ginette 93rd birthday celebration with friends and family! They were so patient with me as I practiced my French and I also learned a lot about Greek culture from them. Dina's cooking was absolutely amazing, and they also took me to a nearby taverna with the best food I've ever eaten! Dina took me to the ocean on the same day and we walked the beach, searching for treasures. The stay in the yurt was incredibly beautiful, the animals were so friendly, and the work was hard but rewarding. It was so cool listening to Dina play the accordion and we played fun games of rummy cup together. efharisto! I would recommend everyone to stay with Dina and Ginette :) I hope I can come back someday!

Mercedez supported us during our retreats and I would highly recommend her. She is very proactive, has a strong work ethic, and brings a calm, positive energy to the environment. She is great with animals, connects easily with people, and contributes in a natural and reliable way to the overall experience. It was a pleasure having her as part of the team.

I would highly recommend Robert to any future host and project and I can tell you why; He is a clear communicator and dedicated volunteer: he let me know during our first phone conversation that he had remote working commitments that he need to uphold and that it was important for him to go to church on Sundays. He was dedicated in making sure, to the best of his ability, that these commitments did not interfere with his commitments to volunteering with me on the land and never made his personal priorities a problem I needed to solve and happily organised his time and energy making sure all commitments were respected and carried out. He was happy to take on any task and took on challenges with a positive can do attitude: We spoke from the beginning about our shared desire to learn more about cob floors and the possibility to put this into action making a cob floor for the room extension. I provided a specific book I had on this subject and some knowledge and experience I had gained regarding this project. He asked intelligent questions, did further research and tests and fully committed himself to the task with great resolve and results. He was good company and a trustworthy and independent guest: I certainly enjoyed our time together and the far reaching conversations we had which were always respectful and curious. He was able to continue working on projects without my constant involvement and I very soon came to trust him and his abilities. I was also able to leave him to house /land sit knowing everything would be clean and tidy and the plants and animals happy on my return. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours and would welcome him back anytime

I had such a wonderful experience staying with Gemma. She was warm and inviting, and incredibly generous with her home, time and conversation. The tasks set for me were straight forward enough with no time pressures. She was genuinely grateful for my help and I was very happy to play a small part in helping her business. In her home I was comfortable, well fed and it was an added bonus to have a bike to explore the city on my own time. Staying with Gemma was one of the highlights of my time in Cambodia, and a great, relaxing way to soak up the brilliant city that is Siem Reap. I’m sure I’ll be back one day and hopefully our paths will cross again!

Wow, Nikolai is something else! Super professional, values clear communication and goals, cleans up after himself (and even others), works independently, respects house rules, and is polite, friendly, and funny. He’s also very accountable. I have only good things to say about Nikolai and truly hope he comes back one day. If he applies to you, you’re very lucky to have him. We’ll miss you a lot, Nikolai! You’re always more than welcome to visit our farm again anytime

I stayed with Bec, Damian and Emily for about 3 weeks and I had a great time. the work was pretty much only yardwork but very diverse because there land is huuuge. The room for the workawayers is nice and spacious and it has a chandelier 😉. The meals that Bec provided where very tasty. Damian took me to a Soccer and a rugby game and we had some funny game nights. If you're looking for easy going hosts and want to stay near Sydney this is your place to be.

WonderInn is a beautiful place, or rather a beautiful space. It is the space of freedom, creativity, pristine nature and, uhm, beauty. Strategically located between a big river and a church, it is a visible representation of the human life as a compromise between the everchanging current of daily routines and the eternal wisdom of the divine tranquility. It inspires thoughts and motivates for actions. Jeremy and Erle do their best to live up to the tunes of the place. They invite their volunteers to be part of the action, take care of it and support the development. A newcomer learns to notice the potential and has all the tools to implement it. I cut some firewood, did some minor electrical and carpentry works, took care of the animals and felt part of the family. Every day of my almost three months here was meaningful and rewarding. Thank you, my team and family, for the amazing time together. It was nice and warm.

I feel truly blessed to have had the wonderful company and help of Mattia for the past few weeks. He is such an interesting and polite young man with a great work ethic, a very pleasant presence, excellent sense of humour, and is a good, authentic Italian cook to boot! He is quiet around the house, leaves his phone on the kitchen table while working outside, and is a deep and curious thinker with amazing integrity, and a great attitude to life. I particularly liked the way he enjoyed discovering what he liked about each piece of work, however mundane. For instance, that the ordered results of his pruning and weeding gave him genuine pleasure. He took pride in his work and never complained. He tried to speak English at all times, even during the couple of Italian football matches we watched on tv when his teams sadly weren't winning, and insisted we only used English words when we played scrabble. Above all I will remember Mattia for his abiding love of literature, particularly poetry, and all things ancient. His knowledge and recall of what he read, the places we visited, and the history behind everything, is awe-inspiring. If you have the good fortune to host Mattia you won't be disappointed. As well as having any job well done you will find his presence leaves an impression that all is not lost in this world and that there is hope for the future while people like him exist. Until next time Mattia!
