A wonderful week for my first Workaway. I loved being accepted into a warm and welcoming family, living simply but well. The work was varied and I had an opportunity to learn more about native tree planting and hear Te Teo Māori used in an everyday way. The town and beaches of Raglan were also easily reached on the bus from the end of the road for time off. Many thanks Tiaki, Madelin Tāwhai and Māhina, and best wishes for the future.

Although It was only for 12 days, it was great to have Alyssa here. Regardless of her skills, she was always eager for learning new stuff, including Portuguese! Also, Alyssa is one of those beings that does her best to be a better version of herself. Even sometimes when there was some noise in the communication (normal human language and social differences), Alyssa shown humbleness and openness for listening, accepting, improving and sharing her perspective. I highly recommend her and hope that our paths may cross again.

Liru is a very kind and ambitious person. During her stay with us, she taught English to the children with great enthusiasm and also supported some of our English teachers, which was very helpful for the team. She is active, positive, and always willing to contribute. The students appreciated her presence and energy in the classroom. Unfortunately, Liru had to leave earlier than expected due to an urgent personal matter. However, during the time she spent with us, she showed great commitment and left a very good impression. We are grateful for her contribution and we wish her all the best for the future. She is always welcome back.

Anna and Fabrizio are very generous and gracious people. We enjoyed working with them very much. The work was fun and not too much and afterwards Anna always had great recommendations about what to do in the area. They always listened to what we had to say and paid attention to our needs. We would love to stay again anytime!

I stayed with Nina, Bede, Patty, Scarlett, and Joe for a week, and was welcomed with open arms. The tasks varied from gardening, household chores and childcare, and there was plenty of spare time for me to explore Dunedin! I had a great time!

Four weeks in Seia, Portugal turned into a truly special and memorable experience. Even before my arrival, I had great contact with Elizabeth. She explained everything clearly, which gave me a reassuring and comfortable feeling ahead of my trip. I stayed in a cozy caravan with my own kitchen and fireplace. This turned out to be perfect, especially during the first week when the weather was quite rainy and the temperatures were low. There was always plenty of food available in the tent, along with fresh eggs and milk every day, so I found myself making pancakes quite often. My main responsibility was taking care of the goats. At first, it took some time to get used to their routine, getting to know them and learning how to care for them properly. But after about a week, I felt much more confident and comfortable, and I was able to manage the work independently. When the weather improved, I also helped out in the vegetable garden, which was a lovely addition to my daily tasks. Most evenings, I shared dinner with Eli and David, which I really enjoyed. On some days, usually my days off, I took the time to cook something nice for myself in the caravan. The area is surrounded by beautiful nature, and I loved exploring the small villages near the farm whenever I had the chance. Each morning, especially when the sun was shining, I would sit with a cup of coffee and take in the breathtaking view of the Serra da Estrela mountains. Moments like these made the experience even more special. Eli and David truly made me feel at home. They created a welcoming environment where I could learn, grow, and challenge myself in many ways. It is an experience I will always carry with me.

Antonia, please come back 😍 it was such a nice experience to have Antonia here in our community, she was such a natural part of our tribe from day one. She was such a valuable help and had a really positive, collaborative and humble attitude. We were really lucky that she decided to extend her stay.

I was supposed to stay with Marcela and Juli for 2.5 weeks, but unfortunately I got sick with a flu on my first night and wasn’t able to help the following day. While I was clearly unwell I did unfortunately not really feel taken care of, which was difficult in such a vulnerable state, where you are truly dependent on your hosts. They preferred me to leave quite quickly. I understand that this may have been inconvenient for them, but it still felt harsh to me. That said, they seem like genuine and passionate people about their projects, their daughter Helena is also very cute and it’s a pity things didn’t work out, as I would have really liked to help and learn from them. Overall, it was an unfortunate situation for everyone.

¡Gracias, amigos!

Marcos was a pleasure to host ! I sure can recommend him to other hosts. He is a positive, friendly, reliable and serious guy who is interested in the culture. He loves exploring and seeing new landscapes, constructions, buildings. We had really nice conversations and he has a good working ethic....finds his way easily and brings joy to the home. I missed him after he left and look forward to see him again with his cousin in May😃👍. He helpt me with cores in the garden, putting together a climbingconstruction for the wisteria and grape and helped me with the startup of a herbal circle. He was serious in progressing in english and he sure did! Good guy! Always welcome after this exchange!

I had a very positive experience during my stay. The guy who hosted me is a musician—a kind and helpful person with whom I became friends right away. I felt immediately at ease at Anand’s place. The work in the garden was enjoyable; I liked contributing to tidying up the space and seeing concrete results day after day. Furthermore, there was a good balance between work and free time. I recommend this experience to anyone looking for a peaceful and creative environment.

I stayed in Tuqtuqilal for 4 weeks and definitely learned a lot. I worked from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 14:00 with a 1-hour lunch break. At first, I did some carpentry and painting work in one of the cabins. I helped with planting, translating cacao tours, working with medicinal herbs (which was the project of two other volunteers), and did a lot of curcuma washing and cutting, haha. I didn’t work much with the cacao because they have local workers for that – only when help was needed. At first, I stayed in a tent and then moved to a cabin, which I shared with two lovely people. Meals were included; on weekdays, the ladies in the kitchen even cooked breakfast and lunch for us. However, people who arrived after me had to pay $80/$50 per week to volunteer there. There are many people from the local community working on the farm. It is a big plus if you speak Spanish because then you can really interact with them and get to know their culture. One of the workers even invited us to his home and showed us around! Also, Moi, the gardener working there, knew a lot about Mayan history and culture, as well as about plants and animals. I also learned a lot about cacao because I was surrounded by it every day. Living on the farm is nice. The other volunteers and workers were very warm and sharing people. The cabins don’t have walls, so in January/February it was very cold at night. Kenzie was only there for 1.5 weeks during my stay. The project and idea of Tuqtuqilal are very beautiful. It just seems that she is more interested in money than in the workers (especially the volunteers), which made it a bit uncomfortable in the end. The learning experience was really really great, not only about cacao, but also about the whole culture behind it. Thank you a lot for the opportunity!

Bel and Pablo were a lovely couple to host. Getting up and working in the morning was not for them but they threw themselves happily into work later in the day despite the heat. They loved to cook, were super keen on finding out about our wildlife and a joy to host. Our dog Truffle abandoned us for the whole week Bel and Pablo stayed in favour of them! An enthusiastic couple that I am happy to recommend.thanks to you both and happy travels. Susan and Murray

Henna is an excellent volunteer! She is very polite, calm, good vibe, always ready to help. He didn't have a lot of activities in her period but was a good experience share moments with her. She is very organized and helped me to take care of Ranch and Casinha. Thank you Henna! I hope you can come back!

So happy to have had this experience with Dodo, she is a such a lovely person with a heart of gold. A pleasure to have her stay with me for the month. A friend for life (i hope). During her stay she was very helpful with household chores and work in the garden, she was happy to get stuck in and learn. I had a fight with a machete while she was here so I struggled to do simple tasks like getting dressed so I don't know what I wpuld have done without her in this moment! She helped a lot with advertising my events and also with my social media. My animals loved her and so do I.
