For my first workaway experience, I was incredibly lucky to have simply the best hosts in Kerry and Martin. They put me at ease from the moment I arrived. Kerry and Martin are natural hosts: warm, kind, understanding, interested in you and interesting people themselves. It's a gift not many people possess. Three weeks have flown by. We did everything together with Kerry, who is a very hard working lady herself, not afraid to get her hands dirty. I enjoyed every minute of it, from our breakfast together, to work until lunchtime. Then I often explored the beautiful villages and towns of Landes, driving around, to join Kerry for supper. Sometimes in the afternoons Kerry and I sat by the pool reading and swimming. We had lots of interesting conversations. Work was varied, from weeding, planting, watering, painting to some cooking and house keeping. So it never got monotonous. My accommodation was great, a very spacious apartment in a separate barn. I enjoyed watching films before bed and chilling after work there. I was also lucky to meet Katie, their eldest daughter, who spent a memorable week with us. I haven't met a sweeter, kinder, smarter young girl in a long time. It was always a pleasure chatting to her. Katie would actually chat me up, curious and genuinely interested in my life, just like her parents. She's a credit to you both, Kerry and Martin. When Martin was back from his work in London, we all had some fun time over supper in the garden. Also, Kerry and Katie started me off on my hopefully continuous journey of yoga and pilates. You both were marvellous! Thank you 😊 And Kerry, our food preferences are simply spookingly similar!.. From chia yogurt breakfast to creative poke bowls... Every time I have a poke bowl now, I think of you 😊 and thank you for your thoughtful gifts of special balms. I'm using them all, the organic skincare queen I am myself. All three made me feel like a part of their family, including me in every aspect of their daily life. It was a perfect combination of time together and giving each other space. After just over three weeks with this generous family, I felt enriched socially, psychologically, mentally, physically. It's been like a therapy for me at this most difficult time in my life. I always felt looked after, comfortable talking to you and being in your home. You are the most perfect hosts, making workaway what it should be - a fair, honest, comfortable, enriching experience for both parties. People either have it or they don't. You're natural. Thilde was a wonderful volunteer and a valuable member of our team. She taught English with enthusiasm, dedication, and professionalism. She was always kind, respectful, and patient with both students and staff. Her positive attitude and willingness to help created a great learning environment, and our students truly enjoyed her classes. One of Thilde's greatest qualities was her ability to integrate into the local community. She built strong and positive relationships with the people of the city, showed genuine interest in the local culture, and was appreciated by students, families, and community members alike. Thilde adapted very well to her new environment, worked collaboratively with the team, and demonstrated a sincere commitment to the educational mission of the center. We wish her every success in her future projects and adventures.

We hosted Lilli and it was a fabulous experience! She built a wonderful relationship with our children, based on respect and fun. She was always very eager to help around the house and perfect in everything we asked her to do. We truly loved her bright personality and her desire to have fun. It is honestly very hard not to appreciate this girl's energy and positive spirit. Thank you for your time with us!

These two were at the quinta for just on 4 weeks. The initial period was spent working at the vines and preparing them for the grape development. Quite a tedious job but they stuck with it. We also cleared a lot of overhead oak branches which were affecting the light and olive production. We made a training program for driving and handling a small tractor. Also, substantial amount of grass cutting. Understanding gear shift helped later on when they bought their own car for use in Portugal and Europe. Also trained in the use of a motorized weed whacker and how to work with chainsaw maintenance. Enjoyed the shared cooking when my wife was called back to the UK for a mercy mission Safe driving in Europe We look forward to meeting you both again before you travel back to Australia

Lew and Nikolaj are two young brothers full of energy and very good willing. Within there all stay, they were full of courage and so helpfull. I have passed some very good and happy time with theese two curious and open minded nice fellows. I hightly recommend them.

Manon stayed briefly at our retreat center last year. She helped with hospitality tasks working in our communal kitchen, large garden and assisting with care of the cabins, library and pavilion. She enjoyed the access to the Sound and the company of other volunteers. Her volunteer contribution was appreciated especially as we operated with an interim staffing structure during her stay.

Mia stayed at our retreat center for over a month. She is delightfully positive, energetic, capable and hardworking. She fully immersed herself in camp including plunging into the Sound most days. Camp staff and campers alike enjoyed interacting with Mia. She is someone who sees what needs to be done and completes tasks thoroughly. She is always welcome to return!

Carmella est une jeune fille extraordinaire. Toujours joyeuse, elle aime travailler et sa curiosité l'a conduit à découvrir de nouvelles choses avec enthousiasme. Tout ce qu'elle fait est toujours très bien réalisé et elle est capable d'une grande quantité de compétences. C'est très rare pour une fille de cet age. Carmella est douée en tout, elle va me manquer ici. Bon vol Leila

It was a pleasure to host Shiho! She was very nice and we shared really great moments together. She was always very curious and a great listener, but also open to share a lot about her life in Japan, which was super interesting! Sharing our daily life with Shiho was a real pleasure. Shiho also made us discover some amazing japanese food specialities (so delicious!). As a guest, she is very accomodating, respectful and easy going to live with. Finally, she was a precious help in the garden, we really appreciated it.

Me and my friend Suski spent around 4 weeks with Sem and Halil, and as our first Workaway experience, we feel very lucky that we ended up at their place :) Their home and the land is incredibly beautiful, its surrounded by mountains, trees and views of the sea. We stayed in our own, beautiful house which has definitely everything you could possibly need, including shower and washing machine. The work was varied and the workload always felt fair. We did things like weeding, taking care of olive trees and other plants, helping get the swimming pool ready for summer, and clearing the waterway on the mountain. Halil also did a workshop for us about building watering system for a garden which was really interesting! Sem and Halil are both warm, fun, generous people and made us feel included from the start. I'll always remember all the interesting conversations together and sweetness that we were shown during our stay. They were also really thoughtful on our days off and always drove us to either the bus stop or somewhere else, and we also got to go to a local market together to gather food supplies which was really fun. The food provided was always plentiful and all the cookings super delicious - I really love food and cooking, so getting to learn about Turkish cuisine was really, really special for me. Overall, this felt like so much more than just a place to volunteer. Thank you Sem and Halil for opening your home to us and for making our first Workaway experience such a positive one. We left with a lot of gratitude and a lot of happy memories. Hopefully see you another time again!! Sending lots of hugs from Finland! ps. Mi primera y fabulosa experiencia en WorkAway fue en La Escuela las Ballenitas en Las Galeras! Aunque yo ya había estado viviendo antes en República Dominicana, esta experiencia fue sin duda lo mejor que me pudo pasar! Yamiris es una host espectacular en todos los sentidos, tanto profesionalmente hablando como personalmente! Siempre dispuesta a ayudarte en todo lo que pueda y hacer todo lo que esté en sus manos para que te sientas cómodo/a. El equipo de trabajo también fue muy lindo conmigo en todo momento. Sinceramente estoy profundamente agradecida de haber vivido esta experiencia tan bonita al lado de personas tan maravillosas y un entorno tan idílico como es Las Galeras. Os echaré mucho de menos!!! The earth farm was my first Workaway experience, and it opened a world of opportunities and learning for me. Jodi is a true powerhouse of kindness, wise beyond her years at just eleven. There’s much to learn from this remarkable child. Diane, over the years, has become like family. Working alongside her in the marvel of her home has been a gift. Through her guidance and the many volunteers I had the pleasure of meeting, I gained invaluable skills and unforgettable memories. Diane has been the perfect host, making not only my first but also my subsequent Workaway experiences profoundly meaningful. I wholeheartedly recommend this host. The work and the forest are both rejuvenating, offering a glimpse into a world that, sadly, is fading—but one that leaves you renewed and inspired.

Find yourself on a sun drenched pontoon in Norway, among a sea of pirate ships and sailing boats. It’s a warm morning with a cool breeze and someone’s made a pot of coffee. There’s egg lumpas to be eaten and endless giggles to be had, whilst someone strums a guitar. Dave has created a little cocoon of warmth and freedom to be at ease as yourself here on the project. His passion for the project and it really shows; this is a place where authenticity and curiosity are in the air. Heart full of gratitude for the time I had here. A beautiful blip, a chance to step outside of social structures and bubbles you were once consumed by. An opportunity for perspective, and then some…more perspective. I was so creatively inspired and energised by those around me, and there’s a beautiful generosity in the community here to teach and share. I leave the project with so many gorgeous, eternally random and hilarious memories. I have a newfound curiosity, appreciation and interest in old sail boats #jib, a beautiful friendship, a packet of lumpas in my bag, the art of the dumpster dive in my skillset, and a sun kissed grin from what just happened. Dave and Mason welcome you here with kind and open arms, and are just bloody good humans. My biggest hugs and well wishes ❤️ Live, laugh, Love, Lumpas xxxxx

Euvee is such a hard worker - just what I needed here. She worked so hard in repairing my kitchen ceiling (both inside the house and on the roof!) She gave me all her energy and experience in dealing with the massive problem I had here. I am supremely grateful to her for her determination to do the very best she good to restore my poor kitchen ceiling - and she never complained once about having to tackle such a difficult job. I enjoyed her company and her cooking too :)

Aaaaa the magic, the beauty, and consistently put… the eternal randomness of this wonderful place. Dave, big big hugs for you <3 This project has given me incredible friendships & connection, so much laughter, and so many memories that I will cherish. The people that come to join this community span from all walks of life, mixing into this fabulous concoction of characters! The work is ever changing, but always promising of trying something new and learning new skills, boat terminology, and new tools. Nights spent on the pontoon or by the fire are filled with song and laughter. The bins provide us with endless delicious foods and fruits and many wizards in the kitchen keep the crew well & deliciously fed. This place is a harbor for creative folk and I loved how welcome creative projects and endeavors were. The skill share happens from every corner! Thank you for everything that this time brought, thank you to Dave and Mason for making this place possible and so so so so so enjoyable. If you are looking for adventure, called by eternal randomness, ready to seize the day, and GIGGLE, this is for sure the place for you. Come here to be excited by what life has to offer and you will be deeply pleased. Thank you tight squeeeezeeee!!

Marta fue una voluntaria 10/10 en todos los sentidos 💛 Desde el primer día mostró una actitud increíble: fue muy organizada, proactiva, responsable y siempre estuvo dispuesta a ayudar en lo que fuera necesario. Se adaptó muy rápido a todas sus funciones, ya fuera en recepción, limpieza, jardinería o apoyando al equipo en el día a día. Siempre hizo todo con mucho cariño y con una energía muy positiva. Pero más allá de su trabajo, lo que realmente hizo especial a Marta fue la persona que es. Ella no vino simplemente a hacer un voluntariado, sino que terminó siendo parte de la familia. Se integró con el equipo, con los huéspedes y con todos los que compartimos el día a día con ella. Es de esas personas que hacen la diferencia: alguien en quien puedes confiar, que ve lo que hace falta y toma la iniciativa sin tener que pedírselo. Siempre aportando, siempre con una sonrisa y con una muy buena disposición. Estamos muy agradecidos por el mes que compartimos con ella. Dejó una huella muy linda en el hostel y estamos seguros de que será recordada por muchas personas que tuvieron la suerte de conocerla. Gracias Marta por tu trabajo, tu cariño y por convertirte en parte de nuestra familia. Te vamos a echar mucho de menos y esperamos verte nuevamente pronto 💛🌿

Our experience here was a great first experience with Workaway. As two people who have never taught English before, we felt supported and guided in our roles. The other Workerwayers and staff were welcoming, the location is beautiful and the accomodations are very comfortable.

Nichola and Nigel were super :) I can't thank them enough for their maturity and independence - exactly what I need here. They worked together and separately on loads of different tasks. They were happy to tackle a wide variety of different jobs and were not fazed by anything I asked them to do which is wonderful for me. Worldly, well travelled and full of positivity. They gave me 100% of their muscle and energy...on the land, in the house (cleaning, cooking etc.) and were great company too. I would highly recommend them to any host to whom they might apply in the future.

Truly felt like a family, best hostel I’ve ever stayed at in my life, so I am very grateful to have had this experience. Reception work was easy and chill and so fun to chat to all the guests. Would highly recommend salsa classes with Vyonne! Bunk beds are comfortable with a small fan that blocks out any noise so sharing a room is no problem. Wish I didn’t have to leave. Plenty of hammocks to chill in during the day, and a safe neighbourhood. Daily activities every day. If you’re extroverted this is the place for you. Thanks for everything Jose.
