  Description

  We are a Dutch couple who live in the beautiful rural part of Southern Hungary, also called Mediterranean Hungary. We live in a 200 year old typical Hungarian farm house (Tanya), situated in the middle of nature surrounded by woods and Puszta landscape. We have no direct neighbors, and it is quiet at our place. You will see deer, rabbits and pheasants everywhere, and since there is no light pollution, it is a great place to do some stargazing. You can walk for hours or do some horse back riding/ or MTB cycling without encountering much other people.
  
  Janine is a former Managing Director of a sustainability company and Tom is a Structural Engineer. We speak Dutch, English, German and some Hungarian.
  
  We have a separate, fully furnished and equipped guesthouse (with Starlink internet), which we use for family and friends to come and stay in. Since we have moved here not too long ago, we are still occupied with some work in the (vegetable) garden and some painting/renovation works on the main house, winecellar, garage and some other chores. We could use some help with this, but we do so in Hungarian pace ;)
  
  We are 10 minutes away from 2 lovely Hungarian villages where you can do all grocery shopping, doctor visits etc. and a very famous 5* Spa resort (with thermal springs, saunas and indoor and outdoor pools). Here you can also get all kinds of massages and other treatments.
  
  The beautiful city of Szeged is a 30 minute car drive and is also easily reached by public transportation. Szeged offers great restaurants, bars, shopping, sightseeing, architecture, musea, theater, a very big swimming pool with indoor and outdoors pools and a city beach and much more.
  
  Within one hour drive there are several beaches at the Tisza River, all quite and family oriented. We are 15 minutes away from the Serbian border and 45 minutes from the city of Subotica. This is a great area for wine tasting and sampling local cuisine.
  
  So if you wanna experience a place for calm, rest, relaxation in the middle of nature and combine this with your own activities and lending us a hand with some chores, we welcome you to come stat with us :)

  We are Dutch ourselves and speak German and English. I (Janine) also speak some Hungarian. We are Rotary members so we are involved in the local community. We are also in a very rural area where people are still living traditional Hungarian life in many villages. This is very interesting to experience and also gives one a very different perspective on how life can be lived,

  Aide

  Projects and activities:
  Most of our land is still undeveloped, since we live here for half a year. We are working on creating a large vegetable garden of about 800 m² (with the potential to expand, as long as it remains manageable). We also have various fruit and nut trees, which we would love to use for food processing.
  
  Ongoing tasks:
  - Garden and landscape maintenance
  - Firewood processing (tree felling, sawing, splitting, stacking)
  - Processing fruit, vegetables, and herbs
  - Further development of the garden
  - Maintenance of the house and guesthouse (repairing clay walls, painting, general upkeep)
  
  Special projects:
  - Woodworking and carpentry (building benches, cabinets, etc.)
  - Creating a relaxation and meditation area
  - Building a fire pit with cooking facilities and seating
  - Constructing an outdoor kitchen
  - Plastering indoor walls
  - Creating insect hotels using branch piles
  
  Besides these projects, we also love to learn from others. We’re interested in your knowledge about growing vegetables and fruit, soil composition and development, fertilization, and irrigation – especially considering the dry Mediterranean climate of this part of Hungary.
  
  It’s difficult to describe an average day because tasks vary greatly depending on the season. But one thing is certain: there is always plenty to do, and we can barely keep up!
  
  If you like to cook or prepare a meal, your always more than welcome to do so and explore your cooking talents.
  
  With the task you will work together with Tom or Janine or you can perform them yourself. We are flexible and we love to share our skills and exchange skills :)

  Hébergement

  You wil be staying in a seperate guesthouse with sitting area, bathroom and kitchen (including a koffeemaker, waterboiler, freezer with deepfreeze compartment and 2 burner hob). There are 2 separte beds. TV (with Netflix and Amazon Prime) and a steady internet connection (Starlink). The guesthouse is newly renovated, with new beds and new matrasses and is airconditioned (heating and cooling).
  
  Besides the guesthouse we have a 6000m2 garden on which we have a very nice pergola, a pool (in summer period), a vegetable garden in progress, lots of trees, bushes, fruit and nut trees.

  Local transportation is possible but the nearest busstop requires 5-10 minutes by bike. Szeged has a direct train connection to Budapest and other cities.
