    Description

    Kia ora,

I'm on a journey to spread joy, rediscover ancient practices, and pave the way for a sustainable future. Currently, my passions revolve around the cultivation of plants, envisioning the creation of food forests in the years ahead. While I've only taken a few steps on this path, my ultimate goal is to develop serene healing spaces that reconnect people with nature and challenge conventional thinking.

Deeply intertwined with like-minded individuals in the wider plant-centric community, I believe in effecting change through action rather than mere words. For me, self-sufficiency, consuming nutrient-dense foods, and understanding the origins of our sustenance are all paramount.

Although I have a traditional office job from 8 to 4:30, Monday through Thursday, I strive to define myself beyond my profession.

I proudly call Ohiwa/Wainui in the Bay of Plenty my home, a place abundant with natural resources waiting to be discovered. While the property was originally my great uncle's, who dedicated himself to planting various timber trees, I now enjoy the fruits (or rather, trees) of his labor, boasting a 60% tree canopy cover with plans for further growth. Throughout the year, wild deer and pigs traverse the property from across the estuary. Living partially off the grid in a small sleepout I built, I relish the unique microclimates on the 34.5-acre property, experimenting with subtropical fruit cultivation, including bananas in some locations.

Situated just 15 minutes from Whakatane and 6 minutes from Ohope Beach, I'm in close proximity to both urban conveniences and the tranquility of the coastline. At Ohope's west end, I indulge in surfing 3-4 times a month, usually with a longboard on the beginner-friendly beach.

Among the current projects that can be undertaken independently with some guidance are clearing old fences, eradicating invasive blackberry plants, recreating paths, tending to chickens and ducks, and simply observing the delightful growth of plants in the space. Future undertakings that demand more collaboration include establishing food forests, constructing a barn and treehouses, tree cutting, and other yet-to-be-announced initiatives.

  • Aide

    Aide

Primary focus centers on several essential tasks:

    Clearing tracks.
Removing old fences and wires ensnared by weeds.
    Eradicating wild ginger.
Tackling the formidable challenge of blackberry slashing.
While I admit it may not be the most enjoyable endeavor, your assistance holds immense value. Once the blackberry situation is under control, we’ll transition to planting. Mexican sunflowers will predominantly grace the space, aiding in its reclamation as we prepare to establish a flourishing food forest.

    Hébergement

Accommodation: A petite 3-berth caravan. Admittedly, its current appearance leaves much to be desired, courtesy of my spirited disagreement with the preexisting color palette. Should you choose to peruse the photos, prepare for a hearty chuckle—unless, of course, I’ve already exercised my artistic prerogative and transformed it. As for amenities, a communal shower, while the toilet operates on an eco-friendly composting bucket system.

Due to the relatively steep nature of my driveway, it's preferable to discuss parking arrangements via email. Parking is available at the top of the driveway, next to the road. Please note that this road leads to a cul-de-sac, resulting in minimal traffic. A midway carpark is situated halfway down the hill, with the capacity to accommodate up to 8 cars if necessary. Yard parking is advisable during drier months, particularly if your vehicle is rear-wheel drive. For parking in the first valley with access from neighbors, arrangements would need to be coordinated with them.
