Description
Looking for a couple or 2 friends together, energetic, for all sorts of tasks in country life: gardening, firewood, help in our native trees reserve, feed chickens , possibly help with painting a cottage and sheds, some household chores and general tidying up around the property. At the moment we are looking specifically for people with real carpentry skills and experience in it, as well as bricklaying because we doing up a new accommodation cottage for our volunteers such as yourself. Our home is a heritage property and we want to preserve it well. Good English speakers, long term stayers preferred, we look for helpers year round.
You will stay in your own independent section of the house and eat great food with us, live as part of the family. Free unlimited internet, tv etc . We have great views of Mt Hutt and Alps. We are 45 mins from Christchurch and 25 to Mt Hutt skifields. Great tourist area area here with skiing, bush walks, rivers (the mighty Rakaia) lakes etc
We have had workawayers from various parts of the world for many years now and we really enjoy meeting people. Our children have left home, we have grandchildren, one of us is a teacher of languages, the other a builder and we own a luxury lodge with also three houses for guests who want self-catering accommodation .
We cannot take smokers and no special diets (no vegetarians, no vegans no GF or any food fads). We welcome people who will really engage and tune in with what we are doing here, rather than be here on a 'casual holiday' or using us as a cheap way of living while working on your own business online giving priority to that instead of what we do here. If you are squeamish or 'delicate' this is not the place for you, we are in the country, totally rural NZ high country.
There is no public transport where we are, so having your own vehicle is very advisable if you want to go and explore the countryside and general tourist area we are in. It is New Zealand.

Please note we ask an average 4-5 hours help a day per person as listed in the profile in Workaway. This is a total of 25 hrs max which can be spread over several days or combined so that you can go off and do things as well, we are flexible but do not like slackers.

There is NO pubic transport to our place, we are totally rural,nearest bus is Methven or Darfield 28km away so having your own transport is is advisable. Lots of peace and quiet here, great views of mountains and walks, skiing in the winter, fishing....

your own bedroom with your own bathroom in a separate section of the house or one of our guests cottages if available -helping with dishes after dinner and being tidy and keeping your rooms clean is not part of your work time please, it is normal daily living and general courtesy. Food is good here!

Digital nomads: you can park your campervan/housetruck etc near a power supply and you sleep there. You can use one of the bathrooms in the homestead. You are still required to do your 25 hrs a week.

Simonetta and Gary are amazing hosts.
The work is different every day, it's never to hard and you can learn a lot about making beds, setting up tables correctly and cooking.
