This is one of 100 non-profit International Centres of Meditation and Solidarity spread throughout Asia, Europe and North America, founded by the Burman Monk Sayadaw. Here, all kinds of people, including the ones in difficulty (homeless people, single parents, people with addiction problems, mental and physical issues, ecc.), find refuge and hospitality for free, in a climate of total openness, respect and joy, while meditators and volunteers from all over the world collaborate on existing projects or propose new ones.

At the center, everyone has the chance to learn from meditation masters and sometimes monks and nuns. The teachings derive from different traditions and allow meditators to practice formally and informally, specially through the realisation of good deeds and the fully understanding of the meaning of giving. But the preciousness lives in the opportunity to understand how disadvantaged conditions or mental illnesses are a mental block that leads to the creation of categories. Everyone here is a volunteer and has equal duties and rights, respecting diversity above all.
Volunteers can choose to help in different ways, for example:
1. In the center:
A) Helping in the kitchen to cook for the volunteer community;
B) Cleaning common spaces;
C) Controlling resources and supply (food, cleaning material, tools for external works);
D) Doing general household;
2. Doing external works:
A) Wood cutting and transporting;
B) Helping in the workshop on the fixing or production of furniture;
C) Creating paths and spaces in the woods surrounding the center;
D) Helping on the conception of vegetable gardens and orchards;
A) Helping with language lessons independently or as a team;
B) Teaching and sharing techniques to implement new projects (permaculture, beekeeping, orchards, botanical gardens, breeding small courtyard animals);
C) Proposing guided physical activities inside or outside the house;
4. Promoting the center:
A) Administering website and social media profiles;
B) Organising events to attract new volunteers, partners and donators.
5. Helping with the events:
A) Giving a hand in the organisation and execution of retreats inside of the centre;
B) Helping in the social events inside or outside of our structure;
C) Collaborating on other kinds of punctual events, such as Open Day afternoons;
Very often, we host religious figures (mostly monks and nuns) who also need special treatment, for which all help is also welcome.
However, apart from the basic structure of the volunteering experience, the routine is dynamic and new ideas are welcome to be put into practice. We have a few projects to release, like the building of a green house, cutis in the forest for solitary meditation and the implementation of new ecological solutions in the whole physical, human and relational structure. One of the most welcome skills is creativity.
The building is being renovated, but it's active. There is a male and a female area, with 2/3/4 beds rooms. Bathrooms are shared. We offer blankets, pillowcases and towels, but we prefer if you bring your own sleeping bag if possible. If not we can provide sheets. Guests have access to a washing machine to weekly wash personal clothes and bed linen. Rich vegetarian breakfast, lunch and snack are offered at specific moments until 6pm.
The house is immersed in the silent green of a forest of oaks and century-old trees, a few km from the train stations of Serravalle Scrivia and Arquata Scrivia. Following a beautiful path through the woods you can reach Serravalle Scrivia in 30 minutes. Within a 10 minutes walk, there are local bus stops to reach the nearby towns (Serravalle Scrivia, Gavi, Novi Ligure, Arquata Scrivia) and the largest Outlet of Europe. Although the volunteer work is mostly concentrated in the morning, the beauty of the community life is living it fully, and the afternoon is always an invitation to continue creating and sharing.
