You can learn a few things about the organic way of growing vegetables and keeping animals. You may learn how to make juices and jam from wild berries harvested in the forest and the mountains. This I do during Autumn. I try to be self-sufficient and study the teqniques of regenerative agriculture.

Øverstua is a small farm situated by the sea, surrounded by Mountains.
The main goal fo is to be self sufficient, and to live with respect for Nature. without causing damage by the way I grow the vegetables and keep the animals. I am inspired by permaculture, learning as many methods as possible.
Although the main goal is being self sufficient, there is also some production on the farm. 23 sheep from the breed old norwegian and their lambs live and grow here. In Summer they live in the mountains. When there is no sheep at the farm, the activity is producing vegetables, herbs and berries.
The main activity in May is taking care of the garden and the lambs are born in May. This is a hectic time of year when I'm working both day and night.
For June-August 2026 I will prefer persons with experience and interest in helping in the garden. The goal is to host a group of volunteers to stay here, and from my experience about 5 in a group is a good number.
August is the month for harvesting the blackcurrants and red currants. We sell them at a market in Tromsø every Thursday.
The garden has a great variety of vegetables, herbs and berries. Around 50 different species vegetables and herbs, and from this its about 15 perennials, 15 herbs, 5 berriesorrs and the rest is annuals. Berries grown here is redcurrants, blackcurrants, raspberries and strawberries. For keeping them over Winter its important to harvest when the time is right, and preserve and store them to make them stay eatable during Winter. The methods used for this is freezing, drying, fermenting, making jams, pickles, sirups and more. I try to develop new ways of storing and preserve, so this is a continous process. Food is really important here, both producing healty food, but also making tasty food out of the farms resources.
We select Herbs and berries in the forest and the Mountains during Summer and Autumn. There are nice opportunities for hiking just outside the house. The place is perfect for the ones seeking arctic Nature experiences. I have some animals:, three cats, 23 sheep - wild sheep and the old norwegain breed. Summer 2025 I kept pigs also, and hopefully I will have this opportunity Summer 2026 as well.
Growing vegetables, harvesting vegetables and keeping animals are the maintasks here.

It was a busy time at the farm and I was impressed how much effort Gry puts into growing vegetables in the north. The work I did was mostly connected to the garden: planting, weeding, watering and a lot of digging. Together with two nice Czech… read more
I really enjoyed my time here especially learning about growing in the Northern Norway climate and feeding the lambs.
It was inspiring and I am grateful for this stay.
Gry wasn't an exception. She introduced me to the farmlife in northern Norway, explaining and showing me in detail daily animal care and growing plants. She is organized and communicative… read more
