Description
Hello from our university in Kamchaymear. We are looking for volunteers to help us practice English and to exchange their culture :)
Our university is in Kamchaymear District. In 1993, the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport and an Australian aid budget for Cambodia collaborated to create our university. On our educational campus, there is a kindergarten, primary school, middle school, high school, and university.
We are located in a rural part of Cambodia, surrounded by rice fields and small villages. The overall landscape is beautiful and shines during sunset. The campus is full of trees, very natural and walkable. We have cute goats and some peaceful dogs on the campus. During your free time, you can hang out with the students, eat at the market, explore the area with them, play football, etc..
Our team consists of a manager for the English department for students from 18 to 22 years old, a manager for vocational training (a high school program specializing in Agronomy, Accounting, Electronics or Computer Science) for students from 15 to 18 years old. And finally, there is the high school department (around 10 teachers).
We have around 5,000 students, mostly from rural areas. Most of them can't travel, seeing volunteers is an opportunity for them to discover the world through your eyes. In Cambodia, few resources are available to learn subjects like science, business, medicine, etc., in Khmer. So, learning English is the best investment they can make. The presence of foreign volunteers strongly motivates and trains them.

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
By joining the campus, you will explore the culture of Kamchaymear District. You will meet our students and share their daily life. It is a great opportunity to dive deep into Khmer culture. During festival periods, you will join us in the celebrations. You might also join the wedding of one of our alumni.
The students will introduce you to the campus, take you to eat, to see the sunset, and to visit neighboring villages or their houses, etc. They will be your guides!
For your meals, in the campus market, you can choose between many types of food including Nom Banh Chok, Kuy Teav, grilled pork, Khmer coffee, etc. For every meal, you can choose the food you want from the market selection, so every diet is satisfied there. You can also cook with ingredients from the two beautiful local markets of neighboring villages. You will have a true Khmer experience.
We are excited to learn about your culture, your daily life, your hobbies, and also your local delicacies (if the ingredients are available in the market, you can cook whatever you want). By coming here, you will share a deep experience with local students who want to travel but don't have the possibility; you will share your part of the world with them and make a significant difference in their education.

Aide
We have two possible missions:
Mission 1
Three days during the week, you will share your culture/country with high school students by playing activities with them, etc. You will intervene in classes of around 20-30 students learning English (15 to 18 years old).
On the weekend, you will spend Saturday and Sunday either during mornings or afternoons with the English majors. You can present your culture, motivate them to speak, and help them to practice their oral English. They will take you to have lunch in the local food market.
Mission 2
If you hold a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Accounting, Electronics, Computer Science, or teaching EFL: three days during the week, you will teach one of the subjects mentioned (4 hours including class preparation) to "vocational training" students (15 to 18 years old). You will choose a chapter from their class curriculum.
On the weekend, you will spend Saturday and Sunday either during mornings or afternoons with the English majors. You can present your culture, motivate them to speak, and help them practice their oral English. They will take you to have lunch in the local food market.

Hébergement
The university offers a clean, spacious, private room with AC, a toilet, a shower, and a sink. You can see the picture on the profile. The beds are Asian style (not so soft… good for the back). The campus has Wi-Fi. If you don't have a computer, you can use the library's computers to prepare your presentations.
We will give you some money for food; there are many choices in the campus school market. If you can drive a manual scooter, we can lend you one.
Autres infos...
We can book a van to pick you up in Phnom Penh and bring you back at the end of your stay. If you come from the airport, you should take the shuttle bus (cheapest option). The bus terminal is near affordable guest houses that you can stay at.
The van that brings you to the university departs at the "Coffee Bridge 24H Wat Phnom", near the French embassy and the bus terminal.
