Description
Hello dear traveller,
My name is David, I am 41 years old, from Germany.
I am starting a community farmhostel in the beautiful Hermitage Valley in Swellendam.
The farm is situated on 5 hectares of fertile land. On the land is a beautiful river with clear water.
The whole project is at the beginning, so right now (end of November) tha main work is cutting grass, improving infrastructure and planting.
Later, we are planning to have a small community, living mainly from the land and offering accomodation for tourists.
There will be space for Yoga, workshops and outdoor activities.
The farm will include cattle, chickens, vegetable garden and fruit trees..
In the surrounding, there are many paths in the forest and in the mountains, perfect for hiking and mountainbiking. Several lakes are nearby. The sea is about one hour away.
The Hermitage valley is quiet, but not remote. Swellendam with it´s shops is 5 minutes by car or 15 minutes by bike.

We invite people to share all kinds of skills and knowledge.
As we are still in the process of building and we are doing most of the work ourselfs, you can learn about:
- Construction skills like woodworking, landscaping, plumbing, electricity
- Farming skills, working with animals (cattle, horses, chickens)
- Improve your English, or learn Spanish

Hébergement
You can stay in a campervan that is a set up on the farm. It is equipped with a shading net, bed with bedding, solar electricity and cooking possibility.
The river and fireplace are nearby.
There is a compost toilet near the caravan. Shower can be used in the main house. Later,we will build a solar- powered outdoor shower.
Food is included (3 meals per day).

Swellendam is still kind of undiscovered. There are beautiful paths in the mountains and a little river to enjoy.

Highlights are her Indian cuisine and the Yoga classes.
Not only did they set up a website, social media, Booking.com, Tripadvisor etc. for my place, they also looked for further tasks independently, like piling up firewood.
Swiss tidyness and work ethos combined with open hearts.
Can recommend them 100%!

In this time, he attended several jobs, like construction, cleaning up, and general tasks around the house.
Communication was sometimes a little tricky, but got better over time.
