  Description

  Iam a teacher working with children with intellectual challenges in Kenya. My school's is located in Central Kenya. It is a boarding school for both boys and girls and has a population of 110 Students aged between 8 and 30 years. Our main learning areas are numeracy activities; communication, social and literacy skills; environmental activities; creative activities; sensory motor integration; daily living skills and religious education. In creative activities, we make bead items, rugged mats, woven items. Most of the students come from poor backgrounds. The students include those with Down Syndrome, Autistic, mild celebral Palsy, and general intellectual challenges.

  Travellers will exposed to our culture and more so learn about living with children with special needs. It's very interesting especially with learners with intellectual challenges because they are loving and kind.

  Art projects because the learners progress better in hand on learning; teaching because the learners require almost one to one teacher student ratio; general maintenance because the school experiences hardships in clearing debts incurred and heip with computers/internet because the learners require exposure to the global progress like others children.

  The school is favourably located because it's about 1km to Karatina town which is on a highway, we have sporting activitiesand ground within the school, in the vicinity of Mt Kenya which has several tourist sites, transport is very good, the is secure, the area is occupied by the Kikuyu community that is not hostile and it's rich in all kinds of foodstuffs.
