Description
Greetings from Canada!
We are a family living on a rural property in British Columbia, Canada.
We recently moved here from Europe and are slowly building our life, home, and small homestead in the countryside.
We are creating a warm rural home with gardens, animals, dogs, outdoor projects, fencing, planting, painting, and the everyday work that comes with living on land.
We have a young daughter and a busy household, so life here is active, practical, and sometimes a little chaotic in the normal family way.
We have 9 dogs, akita/huskies. They are a huge part of daily life here, so anyone staying with us must genuinely like dogs and be comfortable around larger, energetic animals.
We also have:
- 5 goats
- 11 chickens
- 1 turkey
- 4 ducks
What we love most about this place is the space, the nature, the quiet, and the feeling of building something real with our own hands. It is rural, practical, beautiful, and still developing. Some parts are already comfortable, and other parts are still a work in progress.
The local area is great for people who enjoy nature, animals, fresh air, forests, rivers, simple living, and outdoor projects. If you like being outside, helping with hands-on tasks, spending time around dogs, and becoming part of a family environment for a while, you will probably enjoy it here.
We are looking for independent, respectful, animal-loving people who understand that this is a real home and homestead, not a hotel. In return, we hope to offer a welcoming family atmosphere, a chance to experience rural life in British Columbia, and the opportunity to help shape a place that is still growing.
When you apply to stay for us, please tell us a little about yourself.

Aide
We are looking for practical, independent help around the home, garden, animals, and property.
The kind of help changes depending on the season, weather, and what projects we are working on at the time. Typical tasks may include planting, gardening, watering, weeding, painting, cleaning, organizing, helping with fences, preparing areas for goats, cutting wood, working on and with tractors and general outdoor projects around the property.
A big part of daily life here is the dogs. We have 9 dogs, mostly huskies, Akitas, and similar northern breeds, so help may include feeding, cleaning around their areas, walking or spending time with them, and helping us keep their spaces tidy and comfortable. You must be confident and calm around larger dogs.
We also have family life happening at the same time, so sometimes help may be simple day-to-day things like helping tidy shared spaces, preparing meals together, or helping with practical tasks around the house. We are not looking for someone to take over our household, but someone who is happy to join in and contribute naturally.
Some tasks we will do together, especially at the beginning or when something needs explaining. Other tasks may be given as a list, so it helps if you are independent and can continue without needing constant supervision.
You do not need to be a professional builder, gardener, or animal expert. A good attitude, common sense, respect for animals, and willingness to learn are more important. If you already have skills in gardening, painting, fencing, carpentry, animal care, cooking, or DIY projects, that is very welcome.
This place is still growing and improving, so the help is hands-on and sometimes messy. If you like being outside, working with animals, learning practical skills, and seeing visible progress from your work, you will probably enjoy it here.
Working hours:
4-5 hours per day. Up to 5 days a week. With at least 2 days off.
Whether you prefer to have 2 days free during the week or the weekend off is something we can plan together.
Food and accommodation is included.
We have a small garden with veggies that is for our own use and not commercial. -

Hébergement
Workawayers will stay in a cabin on the property. The cabin has 2 bedrooms, a shared washroom, a kitchen, and a living room with a fireplace and a desk.
It is a simple but comfortable rural cabin, suitable for people who enjoy a quieter countryside setting. There is also a small garden area with apple trees, which gives the space a nice private feeling.
The cabin is secure, clean, and practical. Depending on how many people are staying, you will have your own room but you may share the cabin with another Workawayer.
Food will be provided as part of the exchange. We usually keep things relaxed and family-style. Some meals may be shared with us, and sometimes you may prepare your own food in the cabin kitchen. We are happy to discuss food preferences in advance, but we appreciate people who are flexible and easy-going with meals.
Please expect a real rural homestead environment rather than a hotel. The cabin is comfortable, but this is countryside living, so it helps if you are practical, independent, and comfortable with nature around you. -
Autres infos...
We live in a rural area, so having your own car is very helpful if you want to explore independently. Public transport is limited, and shops or larger services may not be within easy walking distance.
During your time off, you can enjoy the quiet countryside, spend time outside, walk, read, relax in the cabin, enjoy the garden area, or explore nearby nature. This is a good place for people who enjoy a slower pace, animals, forests, fresh air, and practical rural living.
Because we have a young family and many dogs, we ask Workawayers to be respectful, responsible, and calm around the home. The dogs are part of daily life here, so gates and doors must always be handled carefully. Please do not feed the dogs anything without asking us first.
We like people who are independent and can communicate clearly. If something is unclear, just ask. If something breaks, goes wrong, or feels unsafe, tell us immediately. We do not expect perfection, but we do expect honesty and common sense.
Basic house rules are simple: keep shared spaces clean, respect quiet time in the evenings, no parties, no smoking inside, and be respectful of our family, animals, property, and neighbours.
This is best suited for someone who genuinely enjoys rural life and does not need constant entertainment. If you like animals, nature, simple living, and helping with real hands-on projects, you will probably feel at home here. -
