This year we are looking for a single person, or a couple, with skills and experience relating to trees and clearing invasive species. You would be working with an arborist (who is with us from early to late May.) We are also happy to consider requests from couples who’d like to stay with us in June.
We are a family of four living on four acres of beautiful, native woodland a short walk from one of the sweetest villages in Ireland, Glengarriff.
My husband and I live in the main house, our daughter and SIL live in a cabin next door. We have a caravan next to the house that provides comfortable, independent accommodation for up to two volunteers (if they are a couple).

We have lived in this area for 15 years and are very interested in music, theatre, comedy, art, “slow food”, holistic health and exploring the natural beauty all around us. We love sharing what we’ve discovered.
Aide
We have recently finished our house renovation. We are looking for help with our woodland (clearing paths, thinning work to allow light in), rain water harvesting and creating woven fencing. We are also beginning to grow our own food. We use permaculture principles and are happy to share what we know.
We may also be doing some smaller projects involving DIY and wood tasks this summer.
If you like physical tasks, are strong and healthy and have experience in any of these areas (or are keen to learn) we’d love to hear from you.
We offer a modern well equipped caravan with Wi-Fi, a fixed double bed, dining table, kitchen and toilet.
Our house also has a separate fridge/ sink/ hob/ laundry room and spacious toilet/shower room for our volunteers.
We offer self-catering accommodation for a a couple for up to 15 hours help per person per week. These hours can be very flexible to give you the best chance to explore this beautiful area. For instance, you can work three longer days and take four days off.
If you would like to work 25 hours per person per week we can also provide groceries for you.
Autres infos...
Our place feels completely secluded, but it’s five minutes walk to the water/ nearest hotel/ bar and ten minutes walk to Glengarriff. This is a great area for walking and camping. Glengarriff is on a quiet bay off Bantry Bay and the village itself has cafes, pubs, and great food trucks. There is live music at weekends.
There’s a lovely boat to nearby Garinish island and buses to lots of other great towns in West Cork and Kerry. Bantry and Kenmare are our closest towns, 20 minutes or 30 minutes by car, respectively.
We love the peace and tranquility here. We also love to go out, but we tend not to stay up too late or party. We enjoy keeping communications clear and trying to find a win-win situation for everyone.

Leo and Guilherme stayed with us for two weeks and were a huge help . They are both very fit and strong and worked extremely well together. They did a huge amount of land clearance, including removing invasive species and helped us prepare sticks to make a large wooden fence.

They took a great interest in their surroundings, going kayaking and mountain climbing. They also spent a day helping our neighbour clear some of her land.
At all times they were very kind, appreciative and respectful . They also left the caravan they used in wonderful shape for our next visitors. Great power-washing, Leo! 🙏😊😊
We would recommend Leo and Guilherme to anyone and wish them both happy travels and adventures in the future.

Mary and Wayne were very generous as they hosted me a month longer than initially planned - on short notice. The nature was stunning: there is a rainforest on the property and the village at an Atlantic Bay. We did trips on a motorboat which made for unforgettable experiences like views of the mountains and getting to watch seals up close. In addition, the food was excellent and certainly one of the highlights. I had my own space as I lived in a caravan. It was never boring and I have unique memories of the place. If you are a nature lover this one is for you.
